Just got to try this system. However, running "Full Scan" on the ATW-R3250 (receiver) and then synching to the ATW-T3205 (transmitter) will not show any open channels (zero open channels) in the transmitter list (even though you can see from the RF scan that there are many "open" channels). Tried the Full Scan in multiple locations. Since no open channels were in the list, had to deploy by going to the actual RF scan and choosing (move the cursor to) an open frequency. The open channels do show in the list if running "Group Scan" (then chose "Full Group") instead though. On a different note, I did try replacing the included antenna with a Shure 1/2 wave antenna (470 MHz - 638 MHz) and that works fine.

Hey Scott, another great video. I have a "power user tip" for you. I am a musician but my day job is as a location sound mixer for TV (any show with "New Jersey" in the title, then you've most likely heard my work). TIP: If you are using multiple receivers in a mission critical scenario: a) do a scan b) populate your first receiver channel and fire up the transmitter c) RE-DO the scan with your first transmitter active and see how that transmitter effects your RF scan d) choose your next available freq with transmitter one active e) rinse and repeat. This will ensure that your receivers will not suffer from "inter-modulation" from your existing transmitters.
I mean...it's just logic. If you scan once and choose a bunch of open freqs, you're not taking into account, all of the RF signal being spit out by your own transmitters. "Harmonics" of the transmitter are also a concern. If you have two transmitters, broadcasting on freqs that are "harmonic" (235.062/470.125= .5) those are mathematically divisible. You want numbers that are more like Prime Numbers. Think of a Sitar and sympathetic resonance, you strike a string and another internal string rings, in sympathy. While it's cool when strings do it, you do NOT want your wireless freqs to do it. This is what I mean be "inter-modulation". There are charts online (Lectrosonics has a good one). Ultimately, the practice of: scan/transmit/rescan/re-do is your safest bet.

True (sad) story: I bought this unit in March of 2023 - based partly on this review. At the time, I was trying to put together a band, and a couple of the more experienced members insisted that we “had to” go to IEMs, ASAP, despite the fact that we had no gigs lined up. (Of course, this was easy for them to say and do because they already owned the gear, whereas I did not.)
The prices for these systems was blowing my mind, but with financing from SW, I decided I could afford to splurge - and besides, this unit was supposed to be such a great value!
So, I got the thing and took it to a couple of band rehearsals (actually only tried it once, I think), and long story short… Guess what… The band fell apart before I ever got a chance to use the system. 🤦🏻‍♂️
So, I found another band that was already gigging, but they didn’t (and didn’t plan to) use IEMs. I asked about it: Why not? Aren’t they supposed to be that stuff on a stick?! Reply: Nah, bro, that stuff is wack AF; we just use monitors.
So, I - and here comes the stupid part - weaseled a deal to return the gear to SW, based on the fact that I’d never really used it and presumably never would. They took the return but at a 10% loss to me bc it was 3 months later by then;, but hey, it was off my hands without having to post it to CL or Reverb or whatever. I felt stupid, but at least I could put it behind me and move on.
Fast forward to now: in the past month or so (so one year after the return fiasco) my bandleader has started using IEMs with his other group and is now sold on having us move over to them. So, I’m on YT and see this video, and I’m like, oh, that’s a great system… wait, is that the system I had?!
    And yep, same system - except now it’s $175 more expensive! 🤦🏻‍♂️ 🤦🏻‍♂️ 🤦🏻‍♂️
I just know I’m going to be calling my SW rep in the next month or so, eating crow, and buying the same damn unit for nearly $200 more. 💩 💩 💩
    You live, you learn.

Shure makes you spend an extra $100 for each pack on proprietary lithium ion batteries if you want to charge them in a cradle, and you can’t even charge the P3Rs in a cradle at all. @@ScottUhlMusic as an aging guitarist with ears abused by decades in loud bands , my hearing drops off dramatically from 5k. I suppose I am hearing a lower octave of the 19k pilot tone? Here’s a video about it ua-cam.com/video/qlLw5Hf2Vlg/v-deo.htmlsi=Q769pT-pI4RInb7f
I definitely hear a very high ring in my system, almost like feedback off guitar tones.

@@ScottUhlMusicalso, I should mention that I am very happy with the 3255 and presume this small issue is with my set up or to be expected on any system if this pilot tone thing is on all wireless tech. :)

About to pull the trigger on either this or a Sennheiser EW system for my band (buying one unit and 4 body packs). Four piece band, all sharing one stereo mix. A few questions for you Scott.
1.) Would you have any reservations going with the AT with it being so new/ overall not as well known of a thing as the Sennheiser?
2.) Do the body packs seem cheap compared to the rugged metal Senheissers?
3.) Am I right in looking at the AT and Senheisser units over a Shure PSM300 system?
    Thanks man! Love your videos.

Definitely would go with AT or Senn over the PSM 300 (still a good system). I still have my sennheiser as my portable one, as well as have the sennheiser g4 in my rack next to my AT as well. You really cannot go wrong with either of them. I personally have switched over to the AT however as my main one. They are great, and it’s the main one I recommend now. But both are great

We use Sennheisers now but the AT looks like a winner with the full UHF band. It takes three different Sennheiser G4s to cover the full band. Hopefully, this will prompt the next releases from Shure and Sennheiser to do the same.

I bought this last week. I haven't used it live yet but it worked great during rehearsal. I couldn't get the coordination software to work right but you really don't need it with two transmitters.

The only things missing they need to do next is find a way to fit 4 stereo mixes in a half rack like the now discontinued lectrosonics quadra with a color display and add a instrument wireless and ambient binaural mic like the acs/ sensaphonics stuff on one bodypack then maybe the ability to control settings via tablet or phone to adjust settings and frequency management that would be a huge game changer

    • @ScottUhlMusic
      @ScottUhlMusic  Рік тому

Yeah that would be so cool! I wonder why they discontinued that model. But yeah, I would love that!

@@ScottUhlMusic I think it was just too expensive to produce and maybe it was cutting in on their margins by selling only one or two systems per customer compared to 4 or it could be supply chain issues hard to say. I remember seeing that system and being blown away tho

I want a combo transceiver so one belt pack transmits my instrument/mic feed and also receives the in-ear feed. With all the digital stuff out there now, why not combine them so you only have one belt pack. When my wife is performing she wears three now. One for the violin, one for the mic, and an in-ear receiver. How hard can it be to build a single belt pack and rack box to do both? Seems like common sense. As long as the batteries last 2-3 hours, that is plenty for most shows.

That’s interesting… set the sensitivity a little less in that case. On this system that would be pretty crazy!

@ScottUhlMusic the group scan returns results but all zeros on the full. I even cross referenced with the freq analyzer on my phone. Very strange. I'll mess with the sensitivity and let you know. Thanks for the tip.
