    Let's put things into perspective...if I was given the opportunity to be part of the royal family I would turn it down because of the structure and rigidity etc.
    I wouldn't cope with the scrutiny and stiffness that appear to be demonstrated.
    Looking at William and Harry...they were born into this family and not out of choice.
    So they are now mature enough to understand their privileges but have done an amazing job at taking on board the real world too. Diana exposed them to this beautifully.
    They are restricted and particularly Harry has shown his need and willingness to experience and be part of our real world...it's their family and their lives and there has been tremendous change within the family . Subtle and progressive and it will continue.
    It's human nature to judge others as we are judged but it is what it is and whilst im not a royalist and never have been i do lean my respect and admiration for two young men who although lost their mother in shocking circumstance and would have felt the depths of despair despite their heritage and lineage.
    They would have suffered in the same way even with everything at their disposal but those things will never fill the never endless void they would have experienced. Just like us.
    Healing takes time and no one has the right to determine when nor how long that process should take.
    Thank goodness both men have found their lives which undoubtedly give them a sense of peace and balance.
    So let's share the love for them as human beings first.❤x

    In reading the comments its always interesting to me that those who profess to absolutely HATE the royals, spend the most time and energy talking about them. Just thought that was interesting. Another curious thing is how people often think that Royal Palaces, art, etc automatically belong to the people. In what I have read and studied, at least about the U.K. is that while Parliament paid for Buckingham Palace, were not the other royal residences built by the actual kings/queens? Also, weren't most of the treasures not originally gifted to the nation by other nations/people, done so by previous and the current monarch? Just curious.

      TrevorDaniels I'm afraid you are wrong about what the Royals own/don't own. What was the case in past centuries (monarchs did own hunting estates, palaces, etc.) is no longer the case, and hasn't been since the English Civil War ended in 1649 (when Charles I was executed). Most of the palaces of old (such as Whitehall Palace, Nonesuch Palace) no longer exist and all those that do exist these days - Buckingham Palace, Kensington Palace, St James' Palace, Windsor Castle, the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh, are owned by the State, NOT by the Queen (either personally, or in her role as monarch).
      The same is true of the Royal Parks in London, the Royal Art Collection, the Crown Jewels, and all Crown Estate land and property. None of these (in spite of the mistaken belief of those who think having the word "Royal" in front of them means the Queen owns them personally) forms a part of her personal wealth.
      The only property she personally owns is Balmoral in Scotland and Sandringham House in Norfolk. And any gifts the Queen receives from other nations/peoples she receives in her official role as monarch. They are held in trust by the State. They are not the Queen's personal property.
      Forbes magazine estimates the Queen's personal wealth at around £300m. A lot, perhaps, but it pales into insignificance when you consider that there are many thousands of people around the world who are worth considerably more. Why, in London alone there are over 100 BILLIONAIRES. In terms of other Royals the Queen is comparatively poor, yet no-one mentions - or criticises - the wealth of other Kings and Queens on the planet. I wonder why?
      Even in Europe (there are monarchs of Denmark, The Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Norway, Sweden, all wealthy, all sitting pretty in various Royal Palaces scattered around their respective countries) the Queen is left standing in the wealth stakes by Prince Hans-Adam II of Leichtenstein ("Who?" you might ask.). He's worth 2 billion Euros.
      And what about the corrupt rulers of Middle Eastern States like Saudi Arabia, whose King is a multi-billionaire in the Bill Gates league? As is the case with other oil rich countries in that part of the world, the country's oils revenues are regarded as his family's personal wealth. How outrageous is that? All the more curious, then, that the haters of the Queen never mention any of those other Royals...

      Becca Salts The biggest lie the royal haters perpetuate is the taxpayers crap... . The fact is the royal family doesn't cost taxpayers a single penny.. They obviously don't know the agreement made between the crown and parliament.

    The Royal Family bring in a huge revenue, in the millions, to the country. To think that what is "taken" from your taxes is significant is hilarious.

    • @hannahedwards4493
      @hannahedwards4493 Рік тому

      Yes they do have our taxes, but so does your president and we are only paying £1.25 per working royal a year, so it’s not drastically expensive to what I thought the nation would be paying considering they put $2.7 billion in to our economy. Also the royal family uses the money from tourism (basically people who go and visit their royal palaces and castles) like what the national trust do to our other old buildings to pay for the expenses of the palaces and castles there are in England.

    Prince Charles said he would like to "give Buckingham Palace" back to the people. What do you think he meant by that? Maybe as a museum such as the Louvre, or maybe a place to rent out a space for a private event? What's you're opinion?

    • @lorddaver1935
      @lorddaver1935 8 років тому +2

      Jean K I think either you misheard what he said, or you were simply misinformed. What I mean is that Prince Charles could not offer to "give Buckingham Palace back to the people..." It's not his, or his family's to give. The Royal Family does not own Buckingham Palace, or any of the Royal Palaces, in fact. The Royal Palaces are owned by the State. I am sure what Prince Charles meant was that Buckingham Palace ought to be given by the State to the people...

      The bedroom tax is intended to encourage people living in state homes with spare bedrooms to downsize and allow homes to be at full capacity. The spare bedrooms in palaces aren't going to be filled, so the tax is pointless, that said, the UK does run too many royal palaces, and too large a royal family.

      @Rosy Rose **this is just a comment I wrote for someone else but I think it would be relevant here (I can’t be bothered to reword everything so just know it’s not aimed at you)** I’m going to give you a list (found in separate comment) of castles/ Palaces etc of all different ages, shapes and sizes to give you some better examples of what England (plus some from Wales and Scotland) has to offer. I must say Kensington Palace is NOT the best place to go if you’re after a ‘traditional’ tour of a palace or great house (like most in England or the rest of Europe), as it seems to be focused on lots of different exhibitions - mainly Queen Victoria and Princess Diana (who both lived there at some point), as opposed to the actual house itself (most of which is still lived in by other royals). Yet saying that, the series of impressive baroque state rooms and staircase, are definitely worth seeing if you’re in the area.
      The point you make about the exteriors always being “boring”, I would have to disagree with. If we’re going on Kensington Palace alone, then yes I can see your point; the house was remodelled in the 17th century for William and Mary (William was Dutch nobility, and they were both joint sovereigns for only 13 years), I think for me the building does feel a bit Dutch. It definitely could be referred to as a having a slightly “plain” facade, (all the baroque extravagance being on the inside) especially when compared to the majority of other examples found elsewhere in the country. But actually I think “refined” is a better word to use.
      In England you do tend to find more “refined” and “classical” buildings, as opposed to the over-the-top extravagance and ornamentation found with many baroque Palaces on the continent (notably France like you say). However there are fantastic examples of baroque architecture in England (some examples being Blenheim Palace, Chatsworth House, Castle Howard or the baroque maritime buildings found in Greenwich, London), but that’s because it wasn’t to the English taste. There were many reasons for this (connections to the catholic faith for example), but that’s not to say these classical buildings are not impressive, because they really are - especially when accompanied with a landscaped English garden (examples such as Houghton Hall, Holkham Hall, Belton House or Dyrham Park).
      If we’re talking about castles, then most of the more “fairytale-like” castles found in the rest of Europe such as the incredible Neuschwanstein Castle (built in 1869-1886), are a result of being built much later in the 19th century for example; the same happened in the UK to both existing medieval structures (adding 18th/ 19th century romantic additions, like that seen at castles such as Warwick, Arundel or Windsor for example), or building from scratch (like at Highclere Castle or Inveraray Castle). Of course there are plenty of “pure” medieval castles to be found also (some of these being Bodiam Castle, Conwy Castle and Caernarfon Castle). Yet there’s so much more than that: medieval moated manors (e.g Ightham Mote, Oxburgh Hall or Hever Castle) or great medieval houses (e.g Haddon Hall, Stokesay Castle or Sudeley Castle), Tudor (e.g Hampton Court Palace), Elizabethan (e.g Burghley House) and Jacobean (e.g Hatfield House) to even magnificent cathedrals - Europe’s greatest architectural achievement in the medieval era (such as Lincoln Cathedral, York Minster or Durham Cathedral).
      **full list to follow - if anyone is interested!**
