When I first saw the radio, I thought it was bland and somewhat ugly, but after you finished it... What a beautiful piece! Very Very nice and I love the flip up dial glass. Well done Dave!
Mate, you turned an ugly duckling into a very nice looking unit. That grill cloth is just beautiful. I always love watching your cabinet restorations. And it seems lots of other UA-camrs are talking about your cabinet work as well. Both Electronics Old and New and Buzz1151 have mentioned your work on a few occasions. It means you are now the World Renowned Radio Restorer
I love all the ones I watch. Dave and Buzz are my favourites because of the humour content. Perhaps Dave believes like I do that there is no such thing as a Museum Piece. What's the point of restoration if not for using it regularly as intended.
I would have walked past this radio thinking it ugly, but it has emerged as the swan it should be. I love the cloth you selected. It makes a huge difference
You are the godfather of transformation, waving your magic on every radio you work on. Another radio restored and looks terrific. Thanks for the video and look forward to your next one.
Hi Dave I think you must've had a fair idea that it was going to turn out really well or you wouldn't have gone to the trouble of ordering the grille cloth from the Netherlands. Anyway you certainly did it justice! Nice touch with Fred & Ginger dancing in the reflection on the cabinet. Nicely done. Please do a video on your beige Volvo when you get it! Cheers
That's a good point Don. I liked the radio when I saw it and wanted to do it up. I was worried when I first started and really looked at it condition but it turned out pretty good. Google Booty Swing and it shows the entire dance. It will take a while to drive the Volvo from the dealership, I will need to drive it sooo slow... and in the right lane 😅 Thanks Don.
Don you and Dave seem to keep trying to raise the bar in the Australian cabinet reclamation. I’ve been enjoying the illustrations you two run, yes Dave’s cabinet reflection was outstanding.
Wow, it is always nice to watch a master at work. I found that I learn better through watching rather then reading, took some sort of test once in college about that, I always learn some thing every time I watch your videos. Thanks for the entertainment whilst I sip my morning coffee, always a great way to start the day. Oh -10F here this morning, wind is strong so there are wind chill warnings, the wind chill right now according to my radio is -30F which, if I remember is about the point where the C and F scales come close to matching.
Hi Dave. Having watched this Erres restoration. What appeared at first to be a real ugly duckling turned into an unusual Swan. A credit to your skills. Thanks again for an informative program. Bob.
Every episode seems to have at least one tour de force. Sometimes a transformer rewinding, sometimes a capacitor block, sometimes a stuffed cap, and this time the grille cloth. Great work!
Hi David. Chris and i are just watching you square up the fabric. To help you with it for your next lot of fabric, here's a video I did a while back on squaring up the fabric by following a pattern. If you don't have the tools I use, just use a marker and cut with scissors. ua-cam.com/video/kAIVyrqJ8So/v-deo.htmlsi=o67k7SABixttBRgO Hope it helps. You did a great job with the fabric too😁😁
Brilliant, Your skill set is incredible, though I'd postpone your audition at the comedy club "Polishing the wood" Did you do the French Impressionist oil painting above the radio on your sideboard? It wouldn't surprise me as you are an artist in the radio restoration field.
Hello Mack, thank you. I did an audition at the comedy club, it was a disaster, everyone laughed at me 🥲 Haha... No, I can't paint to save myself unless stick figures count 🙂
What a joy this was ! I was glued to the screen and it brought back memories, stored in the cells of my hands. I had the same speaker, transformer etc. When I was a little explorer, I got quite a few shocks from the transformer. I used it, uncovered, to power my 6V "drill", made up from a bicycle dynamo. Voyage to the bottom of the sea. My double bed was the submarine and I did quite some exploring under the bed. Which was a cave of course. 🤨 A child's mind 😊 Those huge nuts and bolts : kacheldraad it is called in Dutch. Used on f.i. the heating stove (kachel in Dutch) in the living room. Cheers Nard
I'm not surprised you got a shock Nard, powering a bike dynamo from the mains with a radio transformer 😨 A childs mind is a wonderful thing. Thanks Nard 🙂
Another sow's ear into a silk purse, David, a fantastic restoration! Had no idea they made radios like that. Ms Corrien Maas is a great find for radio restorers. She made a grille cloth for my Grundig 2030W/3D that might as well be New Old Stock. She'd never seen it before and it didn't exist anywhere online so I sent her a piece of my original cloth and she hand wove a perfect copy. She's a real pro at that and as far as I know is the only person in the world who does such work. Happy New Year, Dave! I hope 2024 is a good year for you and yours! The world could sure use a good year as the last 8 have been terrible...
20:15 Dave. Beige is never in. Get a hold of yourself. Love your video's. I have no intention of ever saving a radio, and i'm glad that you're doing it on my behalf.

Brilliant Dave! Incidentally I watched this en route between New York and Hong Kong as we flew past the North Pole. Satellite reception is a bit sketchy in the higher latitudes but it made the sixteen hour flight a bit less boring. Many thanks.
Just saw your part 2 to this video. Just be aware of the dual dial cord system, in case this radio 📻 has one ☝️. The transformation of this ugly duckling is simply amazing. It’s such a pleasure to watch. Thanks David. By the way, after watching your videos for a year or two I have almost gained the confidence to try my hand at refinishing some of my wooden radios. I typically only do the plastic and Bakelite radios because I’ve never been good at wood working. Maybe I’ll give it a go sometime soon. I recently purchased 3 radios at auction, all from the 1930’s.

Hi Dave. A story of the Ugly Duckling, but this one came up so well. I was going to say definitely one for your collection, but as you said, you promoted it to your side board. 🙂 look forward to your next project. Take care. Hi to Karen as usual.
Thanks, once again Dave! The case came out beautifully. Nice color and sheen. Great tips on the grill cloth and who knew polishing wood would be that satisfying 🤔

Wow ! Another masterful restoration Dave, i agree like most ,the radio was pretty ''ordinary'' to begin with, but after your artful work on it it's simply amazing. Love the way you set the grill cloth, i used the same method on the RCA, but you brought the technique up a few notches, well done my friend, well done indeed :-) By the way it was nice for your wife to let you polish your wood by yourself in the garage...
Hello Ray, thank you. The cloth on your RCA was exceptional, I was attempting to get get as good a job. I just get an eye roll from my wife when I polish my wood... again 😒😀

David! Your poor wife. Between you polishing your wood and wreaking her toothbrushes. But in the end I bet she has your number and has for many years. Great job on the old girl she came out beautiful. I was going to send a blanket for when you displayed it but it does not need it. Its Gorgeous !! Well done Mate. 73 Joe
Thanks Joe. My wife is extremely tolerant (I gave her a new toothbrush for Christmas) I don't know how she puts up with me 😀 Haha... thankfully this one didn't require a blanket 😅
Excellent Dave. Another triumph. Really enjoyed watching your work on the Cabinet. Dunno if I'm up to the speaker cloth process. You can have that all on your own mate Ha Ha...
I know you always do a good job when you restore the cabinet but this one has been totally transformed. I couldn't see how it could be made to look good but I guess taking the time to choose the right grill cloth and wood finish, together with the attention to detailing works miracles. Great job.
My goodness, the attention to detail and dedication............
