To the Trover. I remember the video with him and how he helpd you. RIP ❤
Another great video. It turned out great. Sorry hear about your friend Trevor.
Wow!! What a restoration. Enjoyed every minute of it Dave. You never cease to amaze me. R.I.P Trevor. Condolences to his family.
Another amazing restoration video.
RIP Trevor, you will be remembered and missed.
Never would have thought it was possible to get it back from the brink. Not only back from it, but that finish is like new. Superb!
Awesome resto mate, when I have recovered some my amps I find over lapping the vinyl then cut your line through both layers. A hard rubber roller can help to run out the covering on the larger surfaces. Good work David, last week I said the case looked like it was made from papier mache now it looks almost new. Once again good job mate.
Thank you Antony. Yes I agree, I wasn't too worried about a gap as it can't be seen but I should have trimmed the excess and then overlapped and trimmed to get a perfect join 👍🙂
The work you did to restore the radio case was nothing short of amazing. There are very few people out there with the skill and the patience to accomplish the things that you do. This was a very satisfying video to watch and the end result proves the talent that you have.
Thanks lakrfan 49. I was unsure if I could do it but once I got started it went pretty well 🙂
35:15 Prayers for your friend. I do have to point out the resemblance to a certain Dickel Afflocket!!!
Impressive re-covering it looks great. I like the Tipton-tip about spraying with lacquer and sanding smooth to aid adhesion. I did an old Dansette record player with new vinyl and it's starting to peel off - I'll try that method.
Thanks Radio-Ged. No sign of peeling yet, it was done a month or two ago 🙂
Great job...again. The self adhesive vinyl turned out awesome, had me glued to my seat.🙂
If in future you want to touch up gaps in vinyl, there are filler kits, though this looked quite handsome as it was.
Sorry about Trevor.
Blown away by that radio. I thought the case was beyond repair, but it looks great now. So much cool equipment you have to fabricate anything.
Thanks Seiskid.
It helps to have some gear to reproduce parts. Thanks Seiskid 👍
Hello all. Buzz has started on the radio I sent him at the end of this video. If you want to see what I sent, click the link: ua-cam.com/video/rJWWMEX_eTI/v-deo.html
I must say this is the most comprehensive radio restoration I have ever seen 😊
So who's a clever boy! Stunning cabinet restoration - loved the new tool for cutting out the letters from the vinyl. The whole job has been really outstanding. Keep up the work I always look forward to your next job. Cheers from me
Thank you very much Kenneth. The vinyl cutter will be handy for dials too 🙂
Morning Dave, #1 My condolences for the loss of your friend, #2 WOW ! What an amazing job you did on this one, watching you pull on the vinyl was simply riveting (pun intended), i was right there pulling with you. I have to agree with Rene, Buzz must wish he had it in his collection now that you did the impossible with it. Great start to my day thank's for sharing again, i'm off to continue the work on my Blaupunkt, cabinet and chassis cleaning all done, ready to tackle the electronics, wish me luck :-)
Hello Raymond, thanks, Trev was a good bloke. I admit I wasn't sure the vinyl would cover the corners at all but it worked very well, I was very happy with the end result. Good luck with your Blaupunkt 👍🙂
Hi David, another fantastic job. I dont think this radio is my cup of tea but I loved what you have done to it. BRILLIANT
💯
Great job! I have no problem with the electronics but just don't have patience with the cases. Great work! 👍👍
Goodness me Dave! I watch all that you do but don’t understand the electronics at all. On the other hand your case work speaks directly to me and this one is a total gob smack. I’m in awe and very well entertained. Cheers from Tasmania
Thank you Kim. I was worried about the case but very happy with the result. Stay warm 👍🙂
David that came out amazing! Your talent is unparalleled! Take care!
You always impress me with your creative, fabrication skills. it's tough losing skilled trades. Thank you for the Part 3.
Thanks Craig. Yes, trades die out, but luckily we still have some people willing to carry them on, we still have wheelwrights for example 🙂
I was wondering how you were going to replicate the lettering on the front. It looks absolutely spot-on! This radio was full of awkward detail repairs and you had to figure out how to go about them. Highly impressive result. It looks like it would've been very labour intensive building these in the first place.
The lettering looks perfect Paul, it's also very hard wearing and should stay put for years to come. It can even be put in a dishwasher. I wonder if they stamped out the vinyl and the ladies just had to glue them down 🙂
@@DavidTipton101 Back in the 40's, they very likely did have to do that.
When I watch one of your videos, I walk away smarter. Thanks can not convey what I feel. Your are the best.
Very Very nice job. I would hate to see what would happen if I tryed that.
Truly, you are the expert.
Well Dave, that's not good as new, that's *BETTER* than new. Thoroughly enjoyed yet another radio adventure. All the best mate.
Dave I have to say you are a true craftsman, your skill is amazing and the radio is so well finished,I salute you!
Fantastic Dave. The amount of details you take care of is amazing. It probably looks better than when it left the factory. Congratulations.
Dave - your best work yet... amazing detail and care went into this... well done mate
Such attention to detail, museum quality. How i love these old radios. Thank you, i do pick up a few tricks along the way from watching these uploads...imitation is the greatest compliment!
Hello Neil, thank you. When you say Museum Quality, are you referring to the radio or me 👍😀
@@DavidTipton101Vintage or veteran, in a sense they both “soldier on” with grace and dignity.
Beautiful restoration, David .thats Real magic.🎉
@@DavidTipton101 i now starting to continue with a project, that's waiting to be finished for 8 years, a ve 301w volksempfanger tube radio from 1946,i already replaced the capacitors and resistors, and now i found a a replacement output tube on eBay, then it's working again.
Stunning restoration David. Your painstaking approach certainly paid off on this one, and also very impressed with the approach you used for that lettering. First rate!
'I photocopied it off the radio'. I had to stop and think about that. I remember tape recording pop songs off the radio, but photocopying stuff? Ah yes. I got it.
Wow Dave. That came out looking brilliant. I love a good basket case restoration. Both you and Buzz never disappoint with the finished product.
Its amazing what an old man, some new vinyl, can do to an old radio. Well done, David. 73 Joe
Well, all the superlatives have all been said, but I don’t care. I repeatedly backed up the video to study how you fixed that case. Amazing! It truly does look like new. You have my respect sir!
Thanks
Dan
Holy cow David, did anyone ever tell you that you’re an absolute genius? A day without David Tipton is like a day without sunshine. Absolutely fantastic video as always, I’m always learning something new, thanks so much from all of your subscribers.
My Mum always said I was a ray of sunshine 😄 Thanks Ralph, I'm very happy you enjoy my videos 🙂
Geez Dave, what a bastard of a cabinet! Of course you did a great job on it and I trust that Buzz will do a good job on whatever abomination you've sent him. Looking forward to seeing that ! 😆 That adhesive vinyl is a product I haven't seen before. It could be very useful for a lot of things. Thanks for another great video!
Hi Don. I wasn't sure what I was going to do with cabinet. I considered just leaving it but thought I should give it a go, maybe I could paint it if I couldn't recover it. I think Buzz will have a good time working on the radio I sent 😀
David you care and meticulous work is wonderful to see. The results are amazing!!
Add my wow to the list! Kept me riveted all the way through. 😁 Buzz does do great work but I prefer your humor to his! Cheers!
Hi again David, as i said before you are the best restorer with a bunch of good ideas kudos to you David👍👍
What can I say that hasn't already been said? I know it's winter, but when summer comes, but it is just the thing for the beach. With a blanket, a cooler for drinks and sandwiches and a beach umbrella.
We always took a radio to the beach when I was young Stanley. Sounds good, thanks 🙂
Hi Dave once again you have proved that you can polish a turd. Great Project. cheers
Amazing craftwork! Another discard converted to treasure. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
I am not sure Buzz did you any great favors here, but, it really does look good. I have done a lot of these portable tube radios, they perform very well, but the cases are generally beat to death and look terrible.
You have the patience of Job, as evidenced by your fixing that speaker and the vinyl!
Well done handicraft! I wish I had the skills to use a 3d printer! Keep up the good work.
It is not mum's nicest looking kid but you gave it the best looks achievable. Great job David 🤝🏻👍🏻🇳🇱
What a fantastic repair on that cabinet. It looks beeter than new, and a great job to boot. Now i and surtain that there is not a radio you can repair. Keep up the good work David.
of all the1.3 million different models of tube radios made in america that could have been sent to you......this was probably not the first choice anyone else would of sent......XD but! you did pull off a miracle and it looks great! probably the best one in the world of that model! XD
It could be 1964corvan, it came up better than I expected. Buzz knows how to pick 'em 😄
You sure have some cool tools. Nice job using them to make a fantastic restoration.!!!!!!
Such a shame about Trevor. You've done a cracking job on this three part radio, Dave. Have a couple of tinnies on me this weekend. Thanks for sharing with us.
Sorry to hear about Trevor the leather man. Another excellent restoration David. Thanks for taking us along.
Trevor your leather man did such a nice job on that Portable radio case, I bet there is a lot of ranches that will miss his leather tack work.
Nice job on the radio, particularly the cabinet, now that winter is moving in on Australia you and the wife should take a trip to fantasy Island and visit Manuel for a joint project.
He did too, Trevor was very accommodating letting me film him while he worked. It's very cold here. Madeira would be nice now 😀
Congrats David, and excellent work!! it looks brand new!! Again, Excellent work sir....
Thank you Chris. Sorry I couldn't reply on Grahams stream, I was up for another 5 hour drive the next day, I needed to get to bed 🙂
astonishing.....didnt think you could restore that case but you proved me wrong lol
RIP trevor
looking forward to your next project
Good Show Mate ;-) !!
Radio turned to amazing. I didn’t think it was gonna look that good but it does. Sorry to hear about Trevor give his family our condolences
I'm with you Ripley, it sat in the box for 12 months because I didn't think I could make it look good. Thanks for your condolences for Trev 👍
Wow! Vinyl work & lettering superb. Indeed, all your work is first rate Dave.
Oh man, stunning work!! When I saw part one I thought there was no way you could get it looking good. More fool me for underestimating your skills!!!! 🙌
Thank you very much Jonathan. I wasn't confident I could do it either 🙂
Absolutely unbelieveable job on the case, never dreamed it could end up looking that good. Fantastic job and video as always.
Very very impressed, really nice result, and what a patience with a fantastic job.
Australia is doing great at Olympics. Congratulations 🥇
Thanks Ibrahim, we are staying up with the big players this time, very proud 👍🙂
holy mackerel David...you're the greatest of all time, that's for sure...thank you for saving it. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
PS.... I promise I wont send you anymore radios 🤣🤣
Thanks Buzz and thanks for the radio too 👍🙂 It came out great didn't it, I was very happy. I hope the radio I sent you arrives in good condition, although it did rattle a bit when I threw it in the box 🤔
Oh well, you'll fix it, Cheers! 🍻🍻
@@DavidTipton101 David, it's really great that we met on UA-cam, and started watching each others videos, and have mutual admiration for each other. Although we work differently to achieve the same goal...me with primative tools, and you with your great hi-tech stuff, we are the same, as we try to save and restore as many radios as we can, and people can watch our videos as we do it......I salute you my friend!🦘🦘🍺🍺
PS here's a little tip...when filming hammering, like you did with the rivets, speed up the hammering 4X when you edit the video...it sounds cool!! haha
@@Buzz1151 Thank you Buzz. As for the high speed hammering, I wouldn't take that away from you my friend 🙂
David, I really don't understand why I enjoy your videos so much but I do! Can't wait for the next one!
Absolutely amazing restoration restoration David.
Plus the way you make your videos are always excellent too.
Cheers from NZ
