I adopted a few weeks ago a female cat who’s born deaf so (as a catowner for a very long time) I can say that they do need special needs and I love my kitty cat with whole my heart 😍
Our baby boy, Arty, is a green eyed, pure-white coated, and deaf Scottish Straight. He is congenitally deaf and has never known hearing. He is the most affectionate, playful, and social cat I have ever seen. All he needs is a little extra play, petting, and caution when walking up to him to be happy and content. He is 15 months old now and the best little fluffy buddy we could ever ask for ❤❤. Caring for a deaf cat is NOT hard in the slightest, in my opinion. Arty does tend to vocalize more than our other furrbaby but that is a small price to pay for such a wonderful baby. Adopt a deaf kitty, you won't regret it ❤
Awh that's amazing - thanks so much for adopting an older and special needs cat! We're really glad this vlog was useful for you! We hope you and your new kitty have a wonderful life together!💜
We have a deaf cat right now. We adopted his brother as a kitten and the shelter called us to say his brother was returned to the shelter and would we take him... we did. He's not phased by his brothers hissing. They have no idea they're brothers but it's lovely to see them together now and his brother is safe and loved.
I recently adopted a 12 year old half blind cat. He ended up having an ear infection and the vet wasn't sure if he'd get his hearing back. So far he hasn't shown any sign of that happening but he's adapted perfectly. Routines definitely help and I try to make sure I walk a little heavier when he hasn't noticed me yet so I don't scare him.
Yep cared for a cat with 3 legs and one eye ...they are great at just getting on with things ...a deaf kitty will soon adapt and use it's other senses to compensate ...just keep them away from roads and let them outside for short periods ..always keep treats handy..
My female is functionally deaf after having a stroke. Hears the odd sound sometimes but requires close watch. She is fully supported in her every action so she doesn't even care that she can't hear anymore.
i just adopted a senior cat with multiple health concerns and deaf was one of the issues. i have never had a deaf cat before so im doing as much research as i can so i dont accidently scare her
Thank you so much for the video! This information will help lots of people. My 21 year old boy lost his hearing first then slowly went blind. I definitely think it's all about routine! 😊
@@benoit.b9337 I've had the pleasure of raising cats for over 40 years and I've learned so much along the way. Feeding them quality food and filtered water along with good vet care can allow them to live a long life. Most of my cats live to be anywhere from 15 to 22 years old. I'm hoping one or some of them will make it beyond 22 years.
I have a cat which became deaf recently due to a severe bilateral ear infection. It unfortunately was treated too late to save her hearing. So she and I are both adjusting and learning how to deal.I am using a lot of hand gestures and also vibrations to communicate.I just feel that somehow her deafness is partly my fault, that if I had gotten her treated sooner she would still have her hearing.I do give her more attention and pets than before and she really likes that. Also she hangs around me more now. She’s a good girl.Thank you for your tips.
Hi! Love the video! I used to have a cat when I was younger, she was all white with one blue and one green eye and she was born deaf. She didn't know any different and pretty much was a normal cat just with little extra care! She was VERY vocal and loud! Lol She responded very well to visual gestures and signs we developed over the years! I recently adopted a new lil kitty who is special needs with neurological issues. But I noticed right away she doesn't respond to noise just like my Cotton! So I'm pretty sure she is deaf and more than happy to care for another deaf kitty! She's got a vet appt coming up to confirm my suspicions. 🧡😺🧡
I have a rescue. Found her on the road as a baby. 6-8 weeks old. Cat is 2 now. Def her whole life. I would stress not waking them from sleeping. Also, we have our own little hybrid sign language. I would encourage all to try this.
I recently rescued a Deaf cat that was dumped in my yard. He's a Blue Eyed Cat with all White fur with a hint of Gold on his ears, face and tail. He does go into fight or flight when startled, and he has bitten me twice... This happend before I realized he was deaf. I took him to my Vet to have a physical health checkup, shots and Nuetered, and my Vet confirmed that he was most certainly deaf☹
Hii, I just watched your 'what does your cats eye mean' video and I'm already hooked. You've been so helpful to me and I only watched 2 vids. Also, good job on losing so much weight, as a female I'm super proud of you. ❤😘 But, I have an issue with my cat. She was a street cat before after feeding her on e she started coming in everyday, ate, and left. However she almost gave me a panic attack when she BROUGHT A DAMN KITTEN in my room. I took it, fed it, but when it was her usual time to go she didnt leave. She kept her kitten on my bed and went out, bring back 3 more kittens. However, the male cat which I'm supposing was her mate and father if the litter, somehow managed to open my window and took away the youngest one. When I couldn't find it in the morning, I assumed the worse and thought it was dead. A day later she brought the corpse of it into my garden and sits on it for at least 3 hours a day. She never wants to leave me and always meow it growls when I move away from the remaining litter. She always keeps them with me. But, she's not been drinking water, or sleeping and eating properly. I'm afraid if something happens to her, the remaining 3 kittens will not be able to survive without their mothers milk. I dont have a vet where I live, please help me.
My cat was terribly abused whenever she was a kitten she was thrown out of a car and they tried to run her over that's how we got her she survived and we had to deal with her panic attacks for the rest of her life thankfully we gave her the best life that we could she died this year my baby girl
We have a deaf cat we got her when she was 8 weeks, she is very loud. I use ASL with her and she is so clever. She is very curious and wants to be where we are so cleaning can be a bit frustrating at the best of times especially the hoover she is not scared at all and with that she tends to get in the way lol. When i wake her up i tap gently on the bed or where she is sleeping. She has loads of friends since we have 5 cats but she is the only deaf one. She is 9 now and still a very happy go lucky little lady. She is my little spider hunter since have a slight phobia of them. Do you have a tip on how to get the volume control on her meowing down a little? thanks for a good video, very useful. Stay safe
I rescued a kitten 3 weeks ago, and he is deaf. I have 2 older cats, and don't know how to help the little one to get used to them, and not being afraid
Thanks for sharing. Do you use sign language with your cat now? I got my cat in december last year and it actually took a while before I fully realized he can't hear. Searching for tips on how to give him the best life ♡
Hi there! Awwh bless you and your kitty; we have started to use small signs for Rags. It took a while but we've taught her a sign for dinner time (we tap our leg as we're walking towards where her bowl is).
We had an old man cat adopt us when we were at our old house. He would just come up to the back door every night and paw at the window. Vet says he is at least 18. That was 5 years ago. We just realized he can't hear anymore. I feel terrible cos I love to sneak snuggle and realized I've been frickin terrifying him for however long. Now we tippy tap to the snoot to wake him up. Literally burn me at the stake I am the worst.
Oh bless you! It's ok, it's hard to tell when a cat goes deaf. But also cats use smell more than sound to recognise eople so it's very likely that he'd have smelt you coming, so don't worry to much ^_^
I have a deaf cat, when he's sleeping in his cat tree, I blow on him gently and he wakes up and sees me. I keep a laser pointer in my pocket just to get his attention when I'm behind him.
also remember that all cats are fare sighted so if any cat is close to you the will only thing they see is a blurry image of you. with my deaf cat I blow on my cat so they not only smell me but feel that I'm close. deaf cats respond to touch and vibrations monte than anything else.
My kitten is not walking properly she rounding up herself more what to do.. She not responding if calles her nd not coming steadily.. She walking like searching something nd suddenly rounding

Great video. I know a lot of this is common sense but that is lacking nowdays. keep up the great work
Thanks so much! Really appreciate it :)
My kitten is certainly deaf, lots of signals suggesting it, vet will have to diagnose it when he gets his booster.
Awwh bless your kitty - don;t worry your kitty can still have a great life if they're deaf!
