The Termite's festival II: Catching, drying, enjoying a delicacy

  • A simple recipe (snack):
    One cup of Termites (wings removed),
    one pinch of salt,
    one pinch of chili (or two - for the ones who love it hot) powder/Indian hot curry.
    Fry in a frying pan stirring until crunchy.

      They are eating POTENTIAL queens because each of the thousands of them COULD become a queen. And a few of the lucky ones WILL become queens. Provided they have mated and find a place to build a new state. The remaining ones will die anyhow after having shed their wings.

    They have alot of these at University of Texas near the research center during springtime, leafcutter ants i think also.

    We call them Esusu & Chinge in Nigeria.
    Smell very enticing after you fry them.

    i could tell from the accents that this happened in my country Uganda....particularly in the north region where i am from...damn i miss those little guys...my favourite recipe is to make them into a paste with sesame seeds....yumm!!1

      @@BossOfAllTrades they come out under certain weather conditions. When it rains a bit during the day and the sun shines, they come out, as u see here, and tend to flock towards light.

    OMG they are so delicious, especially with hot sauce, the larvae tastes like foie gras, you have to have enough of them & that is hard to come by believe it or not, when I collect the larvae I squeeze a hand full into a ball right away so that the forms stays, than I deep fry right away yummy as hell.

      It is south Sudan, it is mostly harvested in plainty during the rainy season

      nest is for chicken food or fish maybe. umm is not pure soil, they make from they poop and another ingredient. its make good food for animal
