I’m happy to see Merry Happy Whatever on this list! I understand why it’s not that popular (a Christmas themed tv show probably doesnt entice people the way Home Alone or Elf does) but honestly I find it really underrated as a show. Christmas movies are always gonna steal the spotlight during the Holidays but to me Merry Happy Whatever was way better than half the Christmas movies out there. It gets to delve in deep with some dark themes yet at the same time be so cheery and light-hearted. Kayla being a lesbian and her progression towards coming out was so powerful to me (sure it could’ve been done better but hey it’s a holiday centric sitcom). There’s also an atheist in that show (he doesn’t get that big of a role but he’s there) which I love. This show breaks a lot of barriers for cinematic depictions of Christmas and what it should be. A lot of modern day Christmas movies suck because they try to make their movie ‘edgy’ but it just comes off really corny. Merry Happy Whatever isn’t trying to be edgy, it’s trying to spread a message of what Christmas can mean to a variety of people. I’m probably digging really deep into a mediocre show that’s probably not gonna get renewed but I just really love it and the fact that you added Kayla as a part of WhaleWow’s lesbian army.
