I decided to sell my little 20 year old Micra a few months ago and have decided to wait a few more months before I get another one. I do miss it though, especially when carrying shopping home 😅. Fortunately I have a good bus service where I live xx
🔫 ....living in the US in a rural area....there is zero chance (aside from a natural disaster) would i be without a car. There are just the two of us living in our home... we have one car, one pickup, one kawasaki mule, and a tractor. Im a big believer in keeping a car in good working order with periodically maintenance. I keep my cars a minimum of ten years.
I’m registered blind and I’ve never had a driving licence. I would normally say buy an old banger to put you on as it is cheaper than paying out to hire one, but suddenly they’ve gone really expensive, even for rubbish unreliable ones. I would suggest looking into a local authority car share scheme, especially for the electric cars, especially if you only need a car for a couple of hours a week and you never drive more than 100 miles. 🔫
The ability to adapt to not having a car is a different level of independence. There are people in my life that don’t know how to use the local transportation at all. They could never adjust their lives if their car breaks down.
I'm kinda like this with my car. Recently had a £400 repair bill so all good. But whilst waiting on the price it was like, I work from home, don't really use my car....more for concerts etc. would I need it if it was a huge bill. Got i just hire a car if needed. But as paid off... £30 road tax, £40 a month petrol and £30 a month insurance, it's quite cheap to run.... for now lol Mine is a corsa and was a throttle postion sensor!! Expensive bugger lol
Short term I would hold out and use Public transport, especially if you like the car you are driving. It would make more sense to hire a car when you plan to go away x If the garage gives you the worst case scenario then possibly rethink that one.
Oh no without a car but sometimes you discover things around your neighborhood that are nice. Having a car has its pros and its cons. Hopefully things will get solved soon. Great Video.
I had this, my 7 year old Kadjars engine completely stopped and needed a whole new engine, but my mum managed to harass the garage enough to give me a courtesy car so definitely worth asking them! If not check your insurance to see if you can drive someone elses car and car share where possible for a while :)

Don't buy the caaaarrrr... lol. Seriously though, if you can get the within a few weeks, I'd stick with that plan. Where I live in the states, we do not have easy transportation, nor taxis, so I have to hire Lyft or Uber when my car is down and they charge ridiculous amounts.
Humm - weigh up the cost of the part AND fitting + cost of taxis and busses against the cost of a cheap car? Also the emotional cost of feeling a bit trapped but, staying in IS saving you money 😅! My son had the same issue getting parts for his motorbike - six weeks became 8 became 10! Bloomin Brexit ( apparently). Best of luck!
Short term I would just hire a car or depend on public transport. But you dont know how long it will be. You could buy a new car and the part come in the next week. Ugh. Unless you really really need a car on a regular basis, I would wait. You have just gotten a little spoiled having that freedom having a car gives one. And living in someone else's house can be constraining, where the car does give you the feeling of freedom. I have been living in someone else's space since April 20th, 2020, so I definitely feel your pain. 🔫
Could you not just get a old banger for a few hundred quid, just to tide you over till yours is fixed or do you have any scrap yards to see if they have your make and model of car and see if you can take the part off of that to fit into your car while you wait for the new part.
