- Guest bassist Nalani came out to NAMM to shoot with us this year! Little bit different flavor than last year where Josh played Enter Sandman on a bunch of basses.
Nalani is a Nashville bassist with several bands including The Nalani Effect (feat. Regi Wooten) and a jazz trio with Rory Hoffman, among others. She's been featured in Bass Musician Magazine and No Treble, and is one of the hardest-working musicians we know.
Find her on Instagram @nalanimusic, on her own site www.nalanimusic.com, or here on UA-cam at / @nalaniwpu

lol love that you played the Rick even though they clearly don't want anyone to have fun with their instruments.
LOL yeah, the guy at Ric (tall, young dude, he's been there every time I've been to namm) said "oh, you can play it, but since these are all sold we can't remove them from the hangers" - Challenge Accepted.
Def some "Don't you DARE play our instruments, peasant!" vibes coming off off Rick.
@@davedixon2167 Why in the world are they bringing sold instruments to a convention? If they've been bought, stick them in a box and ship 'em out! I call BS on that.
@@ampthebassplayer I know right?
The Rick was the most fun because we got to be the MOST creative. I love bending the rules! 😅❤ grateful they let me do it!
All good but everything sounds the same to me. Dull sound with treble cut. Which is kinda cool because theres a 5000+USD difference in some cases...
I was surprised watching the final video too! I expected more variety! We set up the tone for each bass with everything wide open (if passive) and the setting suggested by the rep who introduced us to the bass (if active). As with anything, it’s so personal, too which instrument resonates with each player 🥰
What a fun exploration with those new basses! Great song choice and playing too!!
Thank you🥰🙏
It would have been nice to have captions telling us what each bass was.
You know, we talked about that but figured if people were reading they might be distracted from the sound, so the list, in order, was simply added to the video description.
@@TheBassChannel That is a satisfactory explanation. Thank you!
Good suggestion! Maybe when I post some shorts I’ll include that!
Excellent playing, great demo of basses, and a fun video in general! I'm now a Nalani fan!
Thanks Mike! I’m now YOUR fan!
Reverend basses sound so great...
I don't like mine (dubking)
@@MisbehavingChild Why?
@@MisbehavingChild sell it and buy something else then?
Solid pickups, electronics, and hardware. The best looking designs ,as well.
@@markferguson3745 agree!
That lady seems to be a very nice and joyful person. And I like nice and joyful people.
Cheers Madam.
Thanks you Isaac! We like to have fun! 🥰
What an uplifting song and performance! I'm just a hobbyist but I just have to learn this! Always been a favourite song of mine - A real pleasure to see someone obviously enjoying playing this song. All the best from the UK
NIIIIICE!!😍
Was that one recorded bass sound over the top of all the different basses? I only heard a slight difference in one Dingwall and one Ibanez, everything else sounded the same?
I went straight to the Dingwall site
Best on the planet brother!
All of these basses and the playing sound awesome! I think it’s a crime that y’all didn’t include Devon in there.
#2 maybe? Pretty much got what I need though, outside of a custom luthier job
😂❤
yes, now we know what each of those basses sound like with no treble......some a little more airy, punchy, or mid range honk, but yeah, I get it, trying to go for the Mowtown sound-ish. I think the apropriately named Reverend Dub King captured the sound/vibe pretty well. Thanx 4 the post was fun :)
These were all recorded with the controls set flat on each bass, directly into the Wiretap with nothing in between.
Yeah! We didn’t get go through any preamp, and the idea was to capture it raw! Most of the time was wild open on these. I’m with you, though… I’d be cranking the treble to get some more dig too🥰
Nice…I personally liked the Ibanez btb, the jazz styled basses, and the stingray basses.
Yeah! These new era Ibanez are really versatile!
Rickenbacker always slays
That one was my favorite! Mostly because it was fun to to push the boundaries and play it even though it was set up that way🤘💃🏻🤣
Well, yes.
And almost no one can afford them, - as always.
I like NAMM not to be Google search confused with Vietnam. This is one of my favorite songs, good job The Bass Channel.
On of my favorites too!! 😘
She so happy
❤😃 thank you! 💃🏻
The Reverends are the only models that look good at a reasonable price point,- made in Korea.
I can't believe some of the entitled, churlish comments on here. Actually, I totally can, it's UA-cam - emphasis on the Tube part. I really enjoyed the video - it's a whistlestop tour, it's not meant to be an in-depth review of every bass encountered. Thanks for putting it together - can't have been simple. From a purely selfish, tribal point of view, nice to see some Reverends getting a run out - I have a Triad and I think it's a fantastic bass.
🥰🙏
Bring her back in for more, pls
I’d love that! Any requests of what you’d like me to share on the channel?
@@NalaniMusic Anything, really. Demos, discussion, etc. It's hard to complain when presented with a bass guitar and this level of sex appeal
Dingwalls For The Win!!
❤🤘 they were really cool! Right!?
It's unbelievable that no one in the comments noticed (or admitted…) that at 2:00 the best sound, presence and cutting mix bass is the Stingray! 😀
Torzal?
The dingwall was super punchy
And that is how you DO THAT.
🥰🙏
It appears tone is in the hands… so is timing.
Hey this is great. I am a guitar player, been playing for about 8 years. Is there a bass you recommend for beginner/intermediate. I'm a Classic Rock player, i.e., AC/DC, Beatles, Zeppelin, that kind of music?
Try Squier jazz bazz or PJ
@@cmvb Ok, Thank you! I will look in that! PJ basses are from Thomann/Harley Benson website?
@@AngelMartinez-qs3cf i think they have these models too
The old school Ibanez passive are great affordable classics for the rocknroll stuff
@@NalaniMusic Thank you Nalaniwpu. Do you a link to those basses?
The one with 3 J's.....I want.
That was one of my faves too! So pretty
Would be better without the background music so you could actually hear the bass well
Great basses with a nice pick up configurations!
Also she plays very well and she has beautiful long hair. Strange no one ( dares to ) comment on the last thing,
I'm just not that bothered about hair. As long as I remember to comment on my wife's hair after she's been to the hairdresser, that's my hair commenting responsibilities done.
@@neepheid haha, don't forget that responsibility ;-)
And I know it's off topic here, but I always notice men somehow don't seem to notice very long hair of women.
I find it beautiful though
🤣 thanks for noticing🥰🙏🤘
@@NalaniMusic ah, you're welcome and it's hard to miss actually, it's beautiful! 😉🤎
With those settings they all sound almost the same...
Lol it’s the same bass, just the video changes 😂
LOL oh man I wish. I do have all the receipts (all the individual video and audio clips, plus screenshots of the collection of audio files from all the basses stacked up atop one another to set the time alignment with the original song) - it took so long to edit together that is why the video came out so long after NAMM =0)
Big wish that was true 🤣 wound have saved me a lot of time 😝
1 good bass out of 13 lol
most of them sound good?
One note is off. And that every time :(
I’m gonna have to re-study. Someone else commented, so that must be true. Which note was it?
NOTHING worse that someone that stylistically removes their hand from their guitar. So TACKY and vane! SLOPPY playing to begin with, TERRIBLE timing!!!!!!!
And yet, she is a full time professional bassist, doing just fine.
@@TheBassChannel I know!!! People can do things TERRIBLY for long periods of time and get away with it. Look at Brittney Spears and Justin Bieber and KISS and present day Guns and Roses!!! It means NOTHING that she gets away with it. Your logic is horribly flawed. She's not at a level to be showing off at all and if you defend her, you're just as CLASSLESS.
I never claim to have class, sir or madam. Fact is that Nalani is in bands with basically musical royalty (Regi Wooten, for instance), who can afford to be discerning in their bandmate selection. Oh, and if you must nitpick the performance, you should know that on the days we were recording this, she could not hear herself play due to our recording rig having a fault. Still, she plays with more feel and joy than you appear to have in your life. We welcome a link to your own better performance.
Why do I have to have a better performance to judge hers? That logic is so simple and flawed. ANYBODY that's owned a bass for more than two years can keep up with this young lady. Regi Wooten is NOTHING to brag about btw!!! Have you seen the Wooten Brothers latest music video??? LAUGHABLE!!!!!!! Nothing to brag about. The Wootens lucked out with the eccentricity and confidence, that's about it. Victor plays fast but is out of time with band when he does his flashiest stuff. The other brothers are too crazy to be any good. How about this, they're good for four brothers with Asperger's!!!! Obviously you're invested in this mediocrity, so you must defend.
she’s playing it wrong
She made a few mistakes, do you make mistakes?
No she's not.
@@musicmanxii One note is flat. But it feels like thats intentional, as thats the case every time
and that what you noticed after watching this video, mr texas ranger??
Ok but at least she played great and shared this, I didn’t see any video on your channel
