Buying a Car Doesn't Have to Suck™
Glad to be back. I have seen all your messages that you missed me. I. love you all! The 24k I talked about at the beginning is with a BUSINESS. Not an individual. He was a business and I was ONE customer of his business... (and I was his #1 spending customer).
That makes more sense. Lol I was thinking 24k a year is like poverty level. Lol

The fact you keep dissing the guy that used to do your details is kind of rude. Sure you ou spent a lot of money with his business, I’m sure he also put you as a high priority on his list. Obviously he did a good job or you wouldn’t be going back. But if i remember correctly he was charging around 200-250$ per car for a full detail, and you were saying you could go anywhere else and get it done for $125-150. Well guess what a normal shop labor rate right now is 100-$175 per hour. So if he spends more than 2 hours on a car he would losing money I don’t blame him for asking for more, just because other companies charge less doesn’t mean he has to.

On indeed as an employer you can leave feedback about the potential employee right? Bmbeen a while since I had to use it. If that is the case as an employer I'd leave a review/comment on this person to let other possible employers know about his antics and behavior.
Mike, I’ve been self employed for 35 yrs! Without stress and challenges you wouldn’t be growing as an owner! It’ll get a bunch easier in time man! I owned a Bar/Liquor store in northern Mn and EVERYONE in town hated me because I wasn’t a local… they wanted me to fail. That just made me prove them wrong! Keep plugging man! You’ll do just fine.

My grandfather was was fond of saying, "When the hair stands up on the back of your neck, odds are you should pay attention." I sometimes refer to it as the, "Danger! Will Robinson!" effect.
Congratulations for paying attention, listening to the voice of wisdom and acting accordingly. For not giving the keys to a person who could have quickly ruined your business's reputation, and drove you up a wall to crazytown.
As for the haters, I'll refer you to a guy named Nehemiah. You may have heard of him, he was a wall builder. He had a lot if haters, too, many of whom would have benefitted had the wall not been built. Still, despite it all, he believed in what he was doing, trusted in the one who placed the mission in his heart, and stayed the course.

Are you sure? 24K is less than $12 / hour (assuming a 40hr work week). He wants someone to pull dents, do paint corrections, clean and detail for $12 / hour?

You know what Mike great job man keep going, shows your resilience. sitting here listening to the story I get to thinking about people who wish to start something whether it's a business or something in their own personal life that if you hit a speed bump or a nuisance circumstances slow down handle the speed bump or circumstance and continue on and don't think about that speed bump anymore but only as a life lesson and teachable moment.. you basically are telling the accounts of the circumstances while teaching others how to deal with circumstances in life. You should file a criminal complaint against him for aggravated harassment, filing a false police report, & misuse of 911. Then you should file for a restraining order against him & his wife - make sure they can't contact you or come within 1,000' of your property. Sue him & make him look like a fool on Judge Judy too.
Wow, that's crazy. I'm 30 years auto repair owner. I know what you're going through. I've had Osha, Dep, Federal emissions, and others called on me from a crazy employee I fired.

When i needed a detailer, i lined up 4 cars in about the same condition and had "Try outs". 4 people came and did what they did, and i got the best guy.

I'm rooting for you. No risk, no reward. A you know service side of the new business has no carrying costs, no inventory. Plus is also used to maintain your car for sale. You might also have one full time detailer and one part time or floating, just to keep your overhead down. Until the business picks up.

It blows my mind that this potential worker would do what he and his wife did. In this day and with the technology of today. He’s obviously not bright and probably for the same reason he’s still looking for a job. Intimidating a potential employer is never going to result in being hired by said employer. You are incredibly lucky that you did not hire that applicant. I have worked with that type of individual a few times in the past and it is so much better to eliminate the problem before they are on the payroll.

Being in Business is tough enough, adding employees just like being a babysitter. I am retired now, but at one time I had 24 employees everyone with a different story as to why they’re late or they can’t come to work or they need more money. without any improvement in their work load. And sometimes they wanna raise because they showed up on time for a week. No fun.
