- In the first three months after the City of Denver converted a hotel in Denver's Central Park neighborhood to a shelter for the homeless, calls for police and first responders rose 2,900% compared to the previous three months when it served as a hotel, according to city data obtained by CBS News Colorado.
Why would this surprise anyone?
Does the Mayors Advisor On the Homeless even have a drivers license?
So you're saying affordable housing isn't the main cause of homelessness ?
That's what you are saying. The segment didn’t say nor imply that at all.
Affordable housing has nothing to do with it. Druggie parasites are the problem.
This is what happens when you with an unyielding opinion already established.
The calls are from people who don’t want to live around homeless families.
These people are getting assistance from a non profit and the residents are trying to get the police to remove them because they say they are living off the government but they are the ones using up government services by call police all the time.
Reminds me of the people calling the police on the homeless Jesus statues. Residents try to blame the statues for committing a crime but they literally can’t move.
Sorry to say that other cities tried this and it failed for same reasons. You can’t take homeless off the street and put them in a motel or any housing if they are not gonna change their street behavior. Especially when drugs and mental problems are the problem too. They have to seek help to get off the drugs and be sober before you can house them - same with mental illness. They need to seek help and seen by professionals to diagnose them and put them on meds and see mental health on regular basis before you can house them too. Can’t expect them to change their behavior if the problems with themselves are not dealt with. Need to make stricter laws on drug use. It all really took off like wild fire when weed was legalized. I remember news reports on suddenly seeing more transits coming to Colorado for the legal weed and more and more kept coming. Now other drugs are becoming legal to use and this zombie behavior and drug use is just gonna get worse and worse. Once it’s legal then people run with it like telling a child it’s ok to eat as much candy as they want and ice cream because they can do what they want now. And kids will do just that…too many people rather live in an alternate state of mind. I pray that people open their eyes to what they are doing to themselves and their loved ones.
What's funny was the Denver7 coverage of the hotel being converted to homeless housing. I believe it was some other location, instead of the one shown by CBS. They were interviewing a lady about how her whole life changed and that "she got to start over" because she was housed. That, if it wasn't for Denver providing her housing, she wouldn't get off the streets. There's so much dishonesty from that coverage by Denver7, because that's not what is happening in the absolute majority. Everything you mention is 100% correct and happening.
I also hope people open their eyes to the danger of what's happening. Our society shouldn't be encouraging this type of behavior. It's a failed experiment that's putting us so far backwards.
I thought all they needed was housing 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Nice strawman argument you have there. Have you ever tried arguing with a real person? If you did, you'd find that no one says that all homeless people simply need housing and nothing more. Just like YOU, homeless people are humans with varying issues and problems. Your problem is you're obviously a conservative and brain scans have proven that conservatives have terrible issues with their fear centers and nuance.
Not gonna solve crime or the homeless problem, instead just tell them to stop calling 911 what a great idea
The cost on taxpayers increase by the minute!!
What's your solution? Should we act like a red state that has horrendous murder rates? Is that your plan, son?
the advisor on homelessness is wearing a 300 dollar jacket with the Denver city logo on it... are Denver taxpayers paying for these expensive jackets????
I'm shocked. How can this be?
Wow what a shock who could have predicted this 🤷♀️🤣
I did for over 40 years. Thank you for your vote.
The Trouble Tree Hell Hotel.
#methcampmike and his trash policies have destroyed denver.
Conservative policies create the homelessness nationwide. Of course, they move to places where they can find some hope instead of being face by evil Republicans that doesn't care about human life at all unless it's a fetus.
We are in big trouble thesw policies are destroying denver😅
Denver is already dead. Hancock, started the job, #methcampmike finished it. Sad.
@@JustinRennolds-um1ne Denver has the sixth-fastest-growing economy in the U.S. - Meanwhile, red states have horrendous murder rates. Nazis never wanted to help the downtrodden either, buddy. The GOP is evil.
I've been seeing this everyday in Denver for the past 5 years. Governor Polis defelonized hard drugs, made single drug use legal, and defunded the police.
Denver didn't defund the police, that yet another conservative LIE.
You can thank the democrat party
They could have gave it to working homeless people or working poor people not homeless bums ! A qualifier needs to be a job offer and no illegal drugs !
But why ..? In their little minds a constitutional issue arises...lol
What could go wrong here?
Internment camps with complete control over these people. We did this to innocent Japanese Americans who had good lives and paid taxes but we can't figure out how to control this ???
That’s interesting. The residents (who pay taxes) are asked not to call the police (who they fund) on the people living in the shelter, (that they also fund) for crimes that they see. Liberal logic.
I don't believe this report because I remember Mayor Johnston telling us that 911 calls around homeless encampments were not caused by those "people experiencing homelessness." Interesting tactic, educate residents not to call 911 (because you make the city look bad) Cole Chandler will remain onsite until this attention blows over. Come back to this hotel in two weeks and see if he's still there. $10 says he's not.
😂will he get assaulted this week?
YOUR FAULT DENVER.... You keep voting blue..
Typical. Migration is a problem around the world. Keep watching fox
Thaaaaaaanx Denver. See what you guys are inviting to our city?
Move them to the very edges of the city.
If these call numbers are similar to call numbers from encampments, then why is this a story?
What about police protection for the Central Park residents? We have someone riniging our doorbell demanding money after shoveling. We never hired him to shovel or said we would pay him to do a job. Get your shit together Denver. Protect your tax paying citizens.
Is all they do is house these people and not try and actually help them stay off drugs or work?? Are they helping them try and get id's and or get a job so that they can be productive members of society? You would think these would be some of the requirements if you want to stay there
Diversity and inclusion, our stench!
Double Trouble has security now. Cole Chandler. Don't call 911.
I now have extreme PTSD from places and people like this
what you subsidies, you get more of. what a surprise
Johnston’s Denver. Fine work, the prostitution on Colfax is so nuance. What a tragedy we witness.
TROUBLE TREE
I know what Gomer Pyle would say about this.
Surprise surprise surprise
They’ve made that whole area zombie apocalypse
EVERYBODY IN CO HAS WEAPONS, BUT THEY REALLY DONT USE THEM.
WHY NOT ACTIVATE COLORADO STATE GUARD TO COVER SECURITY FOR IMMIGRANTS.
Well they tried 😢
There are plenty of working people on the brink of homeless thus they have yet to establish the mentality of how to sleep under stars. To change the narrative of homeless this working class could be afforded this option, hotel size rooms, as opposed to not roof at all and combined them with homeless people who have the wherewithal to function. Instead of contracting every job out seek those house members with skills and create jobs so residents can have an investment in taking care of the property. Without mental health facilities to house those unable to function within the borders of society, such buildings should be purchased augmented to their needs.
It's "too many words' bs like this that tries to explain away why their liberal ideas failed.
