I think the doctor mistook narcissism for delusional personality disorder. A delusion is a break from reality. What duty of care does a person experiencing a delusional episode owes society, DR?

I tell you what a woman told me when I started out in the army. She was a sergeant E7 and she never talked that much. Finally I asked her why.
She told me because of three reasons: 1) Some people are insane and it's wise to find out who they so I can avoid them or find out how to handle them.
    2) Some people are out for themselves 24/7/365 and they're looking for me to say something that they can reinterpretate to use against me.
    3) Some want to curry favor with me, so they can get advantages. That will show favoritism and it will ruin the cohesion of the my unit.

In a society hidden behind a screen. Everyone see's the events of the world displayed like a shadow on a cave wall. @Riki D. Your mom is probably experiencing psychosis because of a condition like schizophrenia. It's a common symptom for people experiencing psychosis to suffer delusions and paranoia. I would advise you to go and talk about your options with a hospital or clinic trained for mental health. Since your mother is experiencing pretty advanced symptoms, they might be able to forcibly take action. I don't know how this works in the US. This warrants clinical help, they're psychiatric delusions. Your mom certainly needs help. It's terrifying to live in an altered state of reality. She could end up harming herself or others around her. Take care sweetie. I understand how tough and challenging it must be for you. You're strong but you need help. I hope you are alright

@@Rikiid_ She won't believe you because all logical thought processes and rational thinking doesn't apply to delusions. She will always be convinced that she is right and that everyone else is crazy or plotting against her. This is not something she can snap out of by herself. You can oppose her with logical reasoning as many times as you want, she won't let go of her delusions and will forever believe you're the wrong one, and ultimately that you're against her too. The only way to help her would be therapy and medication. You are so young, I'm very sorry you have to deal with this on your own. I know how terrible it feels to feel helpless while losing a loved one. to feel helpless watching a loved one loose their grip on reality.

I suffered from delusions and grandeur ideas before, terrible beast to tackle, had to implement hour long meditation and consciousness increasing exercises daily for 3 years or so. Ever since i mastered my own psychology (easier said than done) i realised i was really good at it and became increasingly frustrated when i realised my mother was the one who had passed delusional genetic traits to me...she had mad delusions and is extremely detrimental to our family. It was completely mind blowing how someone could be so deeply entrenched in delusion and not see it at all. But then again i suppose i was like that to...but i surrendered my ego so it is possible. To this day it blows my mind, not just that a person can be in delusion, but how many are in some level of delusion or another. very interesting field to study

So I have this childhood friend she has been having this severe delusion of men falling in love with her (including supervisors at work, married men, men have kids) for few years. For example, she thinks her previous married manager was falling in love with her because he gave her a lot of projects and tasks to do...... It’s affecting our friendship because 80% of the time when she came to me she was talking about these things. Even when I was experiencing hard postpartum issues, she still came to me talking about how these men were so obsessed with her. I recommended her to try therapist once. After she talked with the therapist, she said it’s no use and she felt like she was CURING the therapist. Anyone has any suggestions on this situation?

I'm in this situation with my mother, my SO agreed to take care of her home while she was away. So we put off looking for an apartment cause she needed my help. Well I knew this could get bad from the start so I sent texts to everyone my mother and I have in common and stated the plan. So I thought okay great plan in action let's help mom.
The place was a mess she's in the process of "renovation" but this is apart of her delusional thoughts. She bought a house she can't afford and then retired early only to blame my dad (her ex) for her money troubles. She's sunk herself deeeep in debt has a house she can't care for and is deeply in denile it's all her fault.
Fast forward to now 3 months later. She is back home and we're looking for. A place. She expects us to find something this second because we messed up her house (again when we got here there wasn't a surface in sight that wasn't full of shit). My GF and I cleaned this place and made it liveable. She comes back and the day of it is as if a tornado hit. Barely hyperbole on my end.
She has completely forgetton that the whole reason i put off looking for apartments when my lease was up at my old place was so i could stay at her place and help her while she was gone.
(I even still ended up paying her rent anyways so she wasnt really helping me i was paying to live here and clean up after her)

This was really helpful and wonderful to learn from you. I am often worried about the health status of my father because i am more and more trying to understand and analyze the kind of person he is and why he does what he does and what he has done. Cheating on my mother. Leaving the family for another woman and her kids. Getting them a huge half a million dollar home. Everything they ever wanted. Being extremely manipulative and narcassictic. Even going as far as believing his own lies and events that never happened. It is bizarre. I believe he is the "aware, dont care" type. Ive been trying more and more to convey my feelings and speak with him logically over certain subjects but even in the end he still chooses to steamroll over me. Divorce is awful. I wish my parents never split up. I have handled it well. But over time now i have come to trying to work with him and trying to understand him. Even if its toxic. I dont understand him and i feel trying to understand it even if its negative. Will hopefully give me some ease to mind. But sadly it has not. It has just made me worry more about my dad's health. The choices he has made in life. And where he will go when he dies.

He doesn't believe his wife (they've been together for 35 years) when she tells him he is out of touch with reality. He believes he has savant syndrome due to his brain surgery and that he also have aspergers syndrome. During the last few years he sued the shit out of everyone. I do understand delusions but I am sympathetic. Maybe I am off but I get the sense that the doctor here is reacting to the manifestations of mental illness and not adequately responding to them. Perhaps I am wrong, and do please clarify but isn’t delusions something beyond the person’s control? She presented delusions as problematic character traits that serves to antagonize healthy people. Bioethics is something of great interest to me. As it focuses how we approach mitigating or administering to the mentally ill. There it seems like the good DR has an expectation of optimal functionality from the mentally ill…..do please clarify.

Looking at her profile, she isn't talking about real delusional people, just people that are not self-aware either internally or externally.
If she tries to fix people internally, she is a narcissist.
If she tries to tell people how they appear to others, then that could be a good thing.
This being said, all psychologists I met expect optimal normality from the mentally ill. They will "cure" the normal who is not really ill, and diagnose and discard the mentally ill. Her categories are like that. The first is hopeless and needs to be banned, the second is dangerous and needs to be in prison probably, the later can be fixed. They are basically the gatekeepers of the healthy mind community.

She also, like today, thought the headphones she bought me weren't the color we actually bought. The real color was white, the one she thought we got was black, and she gets mad at ME THINKING I'M TRADING OBJECTS FOR ANOTHER OBJECT, CAN ANYONE HELP ME PLEASE. Calista V.B.P It would be best if you can talk to the Dr. alone about your concerns. But you can only do that with your mother's permission. If so, ask them how they are treating her illness and what other treatment options are available.
My only other advice is if she threatens violence to herself or others call 911. Self harm or inflicting harm on others are the only conditions where you can force someone to get more help. I'm not a mental health professional. So these are my suggestions as someone with no schooling.

I am troubled with all ppl who talk as if others ARE this or that way always... we have worse and better periods, moments, sides. Bad behaviours and things like delusion has to do with imbalances, excesses and deficiencies, not least habit-wise and food-wise. Most get unpleasant in various ways when unhappy, tired, troubled. And subconsciously by a false paradigm from childhood.... - Was hoping for help to meet the REALLY deluded ones needing help to regain balance: Paranoid Schizophrenic humans

He just can’t get it into his head because he swears I did it, I know it happened 4 years ago, I wasn’t even at home. I don’t get it? He has delusions all the time and has nothing to back it up but still believes so strongly in them? He is kind otherwise and I don’t know why he just suddenly blames other people for everything.

What I find most interesting is the coincidence of someone defining someone else as delusional. Imagining a laugh track to deal with someone who you suppose is delusional. This seems subjective to me, deciding who is delusional in the first place, but to go as far as to insert a laugh track seems pretty arrogant. Maybe this is consequence of looking at the subject from a macro perspective but this is my gut reaction.
