More getting done on the '87 250x. I'm going to replace the nasty petcock for better fuel flow, a little carb tune for the 1/4 to mid throttle range, and then adjust the noisy valves back to spec. The everyday Honda chatter seems to be a lot louder than normal, and it seems we may have a problem.

First off, I would remove the rocker box and clean all that RTV silicone from the surfaces. Then apply a thin layer of Honda bond or Yama Bond case sealant. They used the wrong sealant on that rocker box. Aside from that, The ticking sounds to me like it will be a worn timing chain. With the rocker box off this will be a good time to go ahead and replace that. Use a good OEM or Japan made timing chain. Do not order it from ebay/amazon. Once it's all back together you will need to readjust your valves. Also, You want to adjust your fuel screw for the highest idle setting. You do not want it in the position where it's bringing the idle down. Adjust it where the idle is the highest and then use your idle adjustment to set your correct idle. Doing this will do 2 things, It will give you the best off idle throttle response as well as give you more accel pump cycle.

Thanks for the advice. I'm currently digging into the issue on the top end. The carb tune advice is much appreciated, too. I have the pilot screw at 2 turns out right now. I'll get a little more into the tune when she's rideable, and I fix this tick in the top end. Thanks again, brother.
