I am not a big Warren beatty fan. But I liked his performance in this movie. Mr Sigel did have a vision of what las vegas could become. Unfortunately his overextended debt to the investors was his downfall. It does make you wonder if he had lived what he would have contributed to Vegas as years went by. in some ways he could have been the Steve Wynn of the late 50"s and 60"s
I was born in Vegas October of 1948. My father listed his employment as, you guessed it, The Flamingo. One would think being an off shoot, sort of, of the original Flamingo I'd be lucky and hit lottery, not yet. But then the guy that built it did get shot.
The worst part of the movie is they romanticized it so much, especially the two main characters . In fact Virginia Hill was in California at the time Siegel was shot and was on the way to Chicago and then France. And many people think she helped set him up. Ben Kingsley was excellent as Lansky. This has been re edited and reconfigured. But its an interesting interpretation.
I've got an immense amount of respect for Ben Kingsley, but his accent is all over the place in this movie. Can't believe he got an Oscar nod for this role when he's done so many that are much more deserving.
Well, the problem there was that both Meyer and Bugsy were Jewish and they were doing business with the Italian Mafia. Meyer always survived because he was highly intelligent, always made money for them and kept a low profile. Bugsy was brought in because he and Meyer were friends since they were little kids pulling small stick up jobs on the lower east side of New York City. Bugsy knew very little about, nor did he have to live by, the Mafia's codes.
What cut is this? Who is this man playing Lucky Luciano? In all the versions I have seen Bill Graham is Luciano and IMDB has him listed as part of the cast. In the copy I have all the lines this dude is saying were said by Bill in a much better performance. Everything else seems to be exactly the same, no alternations. Weird...
Bugsy got a bad wrap he is the one that put Vegas on the map.Virginia Hill did him in along with his greed and yes going over budget with the mobs money.
Lucky was released after WW2 and forced to move to Italy. He secured passage to Cuba in 1946. The national commission then convened in Havana to settle many issues.
So the Casino is $6million debt and they went back get the books already, so they what the moneys spent. Why didn’t they say specifically say how she stole the money? They made it seem like she just made money appear out of nowhere and pocketed it. So what was the money she stole specifically supposed to be used for? Also didn’t she put in a hand in helping build the Casino. Seemed like an excuse just to kill Bugsy to me...
First off, she did more than just help. Bugsy put her in charge of building the hotel while he was off doing other business. She didn't make money appear out of nowhere. She misled Bugsy about costs and overages which were not true. Sadly, he believed her. Bugsy got SOME of the money from Luciano and Lansky and as you heard here, he pulled a scam on people overselling shares in the hotel to get the rest. The money is not gone. Virginia had it. When Bugsy went to fly to California to meet with Meyer and the others (except for Luciano who could not come into the country) she gave it to him. But he wouldn't take it. So in the end, he DID know. If he was smart, he would have taken the money, met with Meyer, give it to him, told him what she had done and let them make a decision what to do.
@@theodorepetine7562 Well, Lansky was actually a VERY smart man who simply chose organized crime as his profession. The movie was semi fiction. Someone was protecting her and probably told her to take a trip out of the country.
This is why organized crime took over Hollywood, to romanticize THEIR story
That is ridiculous, as you do not steal off the mob & actually think they will let you go with all sins forgiven. You can run, but you cannot hide.
