I have appreciated all the videos on BT that have come out the last few days. Even if the person only alluded to the election in passing, you could feel the shared pain, and that was somehow comforting. I actually filmed, edited, and uploaded a video Wednesday morning, encouraging people to read the essay Rebecca Solnit had written and posted that morning because she wrote exactly the words I needed to hear. I never published the video though because it seemed so raw. Probably should have. Anyway, since then I've been dealing with sickness, an injured duck, and a car in the shop - plus, a mind that is only now starting to settle enough to read. I think I'll do some filming tomorrow. Thank you for this video. ❤ 'Colored Television' sounds different than my normal reading choices, but it also sounds very intriguing. I might need to put that on hold at the library. 😊 ~ Kim

I second Priscilla’s comments. I sat down in front of my camera on Wednesday morning and then Thursday morning and felt too sad to record both days. I was successful in recording on Friday by focusing strongly on what’s good, some great books by forward-thinkers. Angelia, I might steal your phrase “dismay buffet” for some future project. I am sending healing thoughts out into the world.

I didn't read for 2 days but then read a travel book which was easy to put down and pick up. I also started a jigsaw puzzle which calms my mind. It's been hard for all of us who read.

Not going to lie, I've been obsessed with social media all week and trying to make any kind of sense out of what happened, with no luck so far. But I've also done a little bit of reading, finishing up a Maisie Dobbs mystery and slowly making my way through Bleak House. I can't remember if you read that or not. I'm so invested in the main story but also somewhat annoyed by the side characters, more so than in other Dickens novels I've read. I blame my distractedness, I guess. I haven't started Colored Television yet but it'll be here when I'm ready for it. It's been snowing here on and off since Monday night and we're supposed to get another big wave tonight. All the schools were closed and it made me nostalgic for the days when I had young kids and we had snow days, my favorite. I was happy to see your Friday Reads.

It was 88 here today but we're getting a cold front to plunge it to 83 tomorrow. 🥶 I got really stuck in Bleak House last winter and just shelved it about 400 pages in. I'm reading My Name Is Barbra. It's very long and I'm not that far into it yet but I'm enjoying it. I have a feeling her early life is going to be the most interesting part. It's nice to be able to watch a lot of the performances she mentions online.
I switched from HBO and Showtime and started getting Hulu recently and watched "We Were the Lucky Ones". I wasn't into it that much at first but when I got to the last 3 episodes I couldn't stop watching. I had bought the book a long time ago but haven't been able to get to it yet.
Also a Poet sounds really interesting. I really feel your pain about the week’s political events. I find it amazing that with all the Americans I know on BookTube who are astounded and upset by events, that he managed to get himself elected. I’m looking forward to Diplomat season 2, but I also just enjoyed the weird escapist time travel of Monsters season 2 about the Menedez brothers. The music (Milli Vanilli), fashion and ambience of the 90s is a wild ride and both lead actors are considerably charismatic and fearlessly throw themselves into the roles with sheer abandon. One episode is like a 35 minute continuous shot of a lawyer’s visit that has Emmy written all over the performance. Chloe Sevigny has developed a mastery of the impact of the small but quirky pivotal role in series, and her deadpan Kitty leaves the viewer in awe.

After the shock of the election, I really needed to pick up a book where the good guys win. So I went to the next novella in my stack of pulp stories of The Shadow - _The Spy Ring_ (April 1940). “The weed of crime bears bitter fruit” (ideally).

Glad to see a video from you in these surreal times. I did have my doubts with diplomat season 2, and almost gave up at episode 3. I thought I knew where it was going plot-wise...but they absolutely delivered in the end. Brilliant ending. Read, they're already filming season 3. Can't wait.
Also a Poet sounds interesting to me. I had never heard of Frank O'Hara until I happened to watch a special on him on PBS this year. I liked his writing and did think he was interesting. The book sounds good though. I know what you mean about the floor falling out.

I don't think it's better or worse than Discord, just another platform. I didn't start this group but I discovered I can add you if you decide you're comfortable with it. I think there are about 8 people in there; you probably are familiar with them all.
