    7 EXPERT CLEANING TIPS YOU NEED TO BE USING: ua-cam.com/video/-C-ic2H24OU/v-deo.html

    This is so helpful thank you. Sometimes when depression hits hard, you sometimes put off cleaning for a long time so when you go to fix it, everything that's been neglected is so overwhelming you really don't know where to start. Having videos like this makes me focus on one thing at a time so it doesn't seem so daunting!

      @Nathan Haimson - yes agree sometimes hard to do it every day. Easier to put off then face it. Or sometimes want to purge and organize then take everything out and then too overwhelmed to put it back better

      Here’s something I figured out that works better and is super easy. You can clean the tub when you are in it naked with a harmless substance ..by using shampoo and a scrub brush on it. It totally cleans it. Haven’t tried it on the tile yet or faucets but who knows..if you can do everything this way it’s super easy.

    I like to finger smear a few drops of essential oil (I like vanilla or sandalwood) on the inside of the cardboard tube on a new roll of toilet paper. Keeps a light fresh scent in the bathroom without adding another item to wipe down during the weekly cleaning. The spinning of the roll during usage helps distribute the scent.

    I found a bottle of Tabu perfume (a vintage fragrance) at a thrift store. I can't wear it because it 'turns' on me, but it was my grandma's signature fragrance. I put a few drops on cotton balls stuffed into a small draw string sachet and hung that in my craft room. It was like being with grandma while I was creating! Fragrance evokes powerful memories for me!

      @@susanhlavaty9500 The Tabu they sell today isn't the same as the fragrance my grandma wore.😞 Hers came in a tall, black bottle (like an elongated drop of liquid) and it felt like the glass had a vinyl skin on it. If I recall correctly, that was a spray bottle. I have to go to some high end stores and see if I can find the fragrance, but we don't have any near us.

      ..I love Tabu perfume...I wore it High School ( I am 66 years young now) and I STILL love that perfume, and yes,..It can " turn " with some people , it is Body Chemistry...; I was in a store one day, had on Tabu`, and a woman walked by and said " oh my gosh, that scent is lovely , what are you wearing?' I told her " I am wearing Tabu` "..she said " Oh My gosh. no way...I hate that stuff ", and was laughing when she stated that. We both chuckled and I explained to her that it is Body Chemistry, most scents are like that. :)
      What a lovely thing , such a good idea , so that you feel your grandmothers " with you" by just that scent. :)

      but if baking soda is suppose to absorb odors wouldn't it absorb the oil? and if not then wouldnt it not be working?

    • @paddicakes963
      @paddicakes963 7 років тому +12

      rsfff that's a good question. it could have something to do with it being a scented 'oil' that keeps it from being absorbed. I don't mix the oil and baking soda completely all together either. I make a little paste in the middle and sit a tea light candle on top and just the baking soda around that. it would probably have a lot to do with what kind and strong of smells you're trying to absorb.

    I've been doing a daily stove top simmer for the holidays & absolutely love the aromas! I've used fresh ginger, cinnamon & cloves, lemons, limes & orange peels, citrus, peppermint & vanilla extracts, essential oils...There are lots of natural options to use individually or combined for unique fragrances... They all smell wonderful!

  • @jeanvignes
    @jeanvignes 4 роки тому +60

    I like to simmer "winter" spices: cloves, cinnamon, ginger, mace (an Indian spice from the nutmeg tree seed covering), and nutmeg (from the nutmeg tree seed itself). I do this every time I'm having guests over for a late-Fall or Winter gathering. I also love the scent of grapefruit. My mother (born in 1935) taught me that when I peel any citrus fruit (tangerines, lemons, oranges, or grapefruit) I can put the peels into a bowl to release their essential oils into the air for a few hours. You can also add them to a simmer. Note that the essential oils are in the peel; no need to sacrifice the inner part of the fruit. Eat the fruit (or juice it) and simmer just the peels. YUM. Another yummy scent is to add apple peels to the "winter" spice simmer. Other nice natural scents: fresh-cut or dried lavender flowers; macerated fresh mint leaves (just mush them in a mortar with a pestle or in a bowl with the back of a spoon); rainwater (open the windows to let fresh air in when it's raining, unless the wind is blowing in gusts of rain which will damage your wood and fabrics); sunlight (clip pillows and linens to a clothesline in the sun and they'll have a marvelous scent when you bring them back inside); baking any kind of yummy food, e.g. cookies or brownies or a rosemary roasted chicken (the "cookie trick" is a old one used by realtors who want to make a home seem more inviting during an open house). Things that work against you: seafood, tobacco, cleaning products with strong and acrid artificial scents (even some "natural" products leave behind a sulfur odor which reminds your nose of farts!!!), and anything musty, from damp gym clothes, to dirty socks, to over-used towels, to dirty sponges or wash cloths in the kitchen or bath. I throw my kitchen sponge away once per week, put my towels to completely dry in front of a fan after each use, and bleach-wash them weekly with an extra rinse to take out the bleach scent.

    My favorite way to add not only a lovely scent combo, but also some needed humidity in my arid, winter, forced-air heated home, is to fill my large crock pot with water and add: cinnamon, cloves (either whole or ground), lemon or orange (fresh slices/peels or minced, dry), and from time-to-time some vanilla extract. It is like extending the winter holidays till I can open the windows in spring! Thank you, Melissa, for always giving such sound advice in such a positive upbeat way. Congratulations, your UA-cam is one of a handful which invites people to subscribe in a positive way. Drives me nuts, even from people who are otherwise talented and lovely, when they say, "Don't forget to click that subscribe button." "Remember to click that subscribe button," eliminates four key strokes, and do "not" (negative) forget (which most will take as a hint to forget) is much more effective.

      @Teela Tequila how to remove: sink or tub grime, build up in oven, stinky litter box residue, even corrosion on car battery termals! This cleaning hack is simple, cheap, natural, non-toxic & gets better results than any chemicals. Fill a spray bottle with white vinager. Sprinkle baking soda directly onto the surface. The garbage disposal can be a stinker too. Grind citrus peels and ice to help deodorize. If it's really bad, use baking soda first, just dump in about 1/2 cup, let sit for about 15 minutes, then pour in some water just off the boil. Then use the peels and ice after to grind away anything that might be lingering.
    Also, if you are trying to deodorize the air in your kitchen from onions, garlic, curry, fish, frying oil or burnt toast, use the stovetop simmer OR put a few slices of lemon into a Pyrex glass measuring cup with 3 to 4 cups of water and let it boil in the microwave for 4 to 5 minutes. An added bonus is that the lemon scented steam will allow you to easily clean and wipe down the interior of the microwave too.

      I have an aluminum fragrance ring that sits on top of the bulb, and it hold the oil in a groove. Got it sometime in the 70's. Works great. We used regular scented oils back then that we bought at the candle stores. My favorite was mulberry. www.bing.com/images/search?view=detailV2&ccid=J7QOL8PT&id=A3F69DFA6862657B24DFA79709712287DAF505A0&thid=OIP.J7QOL8PT90elsToCyMAwJgCxD_&q=scented+oil+blue+ring&simid=608034381557139448&selectedIndex=0&ajaxhist=0

    Also adding dryer sheets into your drawers keeps things smelling good. And when you change them out don’t throw them away I use them to clean my chrome fixtures and even my mirrors my cotton ball cotton swab holder cup for rinsing teeth they are a metal looking but they get stains and water spots easy! But the dryer sheets clean them spotless also, the chrome on your toilet paper holder and handle. Makes them shine my mixture of oils is Lemon 🍋 and Mint one of my favorites. I love Eucalyptus and Cinnamon not mixed but just to use in different rooms. 😉💕

My parents refused to smoke outdoors whilst I was also in the house (even though we have a big back veranda and our climate is milk all year around). Given your comment was 4 years ago, I hope you’re out of this situation now. If not, hang in there and start figuring where to and how you might want to leave home once you’re finished high school!

    I also put about 10 drops or so in my bucket of water when mopping the floors. I add Simple Green all purpose cleaner after I fill the bucket with water & then usually choose a Citrus oil like Sweet Orange & a little lemon oil. Dunk my mop into that to mix a little & mop. Makes the room smell great, doesn’t last that long, but citrus has natural anti bacterial properties to it.😉

    I love your tips! We have had 4 dogs living here at one time over the years and every spring my house smells of doggie odors. I used to knock it out by burning the FP once or twice in winter but haven't done that down here in TX in a while. I am trying the baking soda first, as I didn't want to put out the vinegar and it spill. I didn't have any cool bowels to set out the baking soda so I used old unused bowels like candle holders. They look decorative. Oh, I did put some baking soda in my blue vase on the mantle, LOL No one can see it so I thought why not!

One thing I do for absorbing moisture when packing up the Christmas tree, clothes, or even on or around your electronics etc. Those little tiny silica packs that you get when you buy shoes. Never throw them out. They are fantastic. Plus I make my own. By from $tree their cheap tea bags. Go to walmart and purchase a cat litter that is 100% silica. Empty tea out of pouches. Put in the silica and staple it twice. Perfect moisture absorber.

    Super tips! I'm definitely using them starting when I'm done with this comment. Some of my favorite home smell scents, in addition to the ones you mentioned are: lavender, French vanilla, mango, orange, mint, and hints or diluted smells of Downy, fresh linen, almond, strawberry, peony, or sweet pea (I know this isn't complete; I almost always forget something when I make these lists). I can't use, and therefore don't like, any perfumes or scents that aren't mostly and preferably completely natural. Even an undertone of these in a product sets off migraines and they are horrible; I dread walking into some home and elevators in general because of it. The only time I prefer an unfresh home is if my only alternative to make it smell fresh is some type of perfume scent. I also love fresh air - it's really one of my favorite things do to because stale air doesn't freshen up well any other way. Love your videos and I look forward to more.

      when you change a light bulb you should try not to touch the glass with your fingers. use a cloth instead. coz if you touch it it will not last very long and might break. people always tought its because of the oil on your hands but its actually the salt. so if you put drops on it or perfume while its cold and let it dry, it will be ok.but i have to admit, i do cringe a little when she does that in the video. lol

    Great video. Essential oils on a light bulb will smoke when the bulb is on.

      +sam7748 Hi Sam 7748, I think the bulb will only go "pop", if you add anything to a "hot" bulb. Make sure the bulb is cold before adding the oil.

      If you're worried about that, make a little aluminum foil cup to put on the bulb and add the oil to it.
      But, yeah, you're supposed to add it to a cold bulb. Clean the dust off your lightbulbs with sponge dampened with essential oil and water - gets the toughest dust off and leaves a great smell behind.

      Beth D, they have a ring type thing you add the essential oil or fragrance oils on it and place it on top of the light bulb. You can find it in Walmart or some stores go to the fragrance isles.

      Will it diffuse on LED bulbs as well?

    Make Miramiye tea (don't know the English name) or clove tea. House smells good and drink it, good for you.
