- Honkai Impact 3rd PART 2 is finally here. After we ended Kiana's story in Part 1, (The Moon's Origin and Finality) and after the ongoing Part 1.5 (Dance of Life and Death) will be over, HoYoverse revealed that the story will continue on Mars. (Part 2) Mars, and other planets of our solar system, have been teased at the end of Part 1 and during the story of Part 1.5, so this seems like a natural evolution of the story after the events on Earth and the Moon have settled down.
The video will go over the backstory of the new characters, (Helia, Coralie, Senadina, Dream Seeker, and Songque) explain how are they connected to the old cast, explore the new places in the Bubble Worlds of Mars, and address some things revealed during the CN live stream for version 7.0 that were not mentioned in the Global sneak peek.
I know that part 2 brought huge controversy among the community, but I think that almost all the changes are for the best of the game and made to ensure its longevity. I also have my complaints, (mainly Self Insert MC) but I am very excited and looking forward to the future.

I felt the need to add it here since I forgot to mention it in the video. Besides the mention of Mars in Chapter 35, in Chapter 39 Vita tells Seele that Sa is deliberately avoiding Earth and Mars. While Earth made sense because the Cocoon of Finality is there, the fact that Vita mentioned Mars was always strange to me. So, some pretty scary stuff may be happening there if Sa doesn't want to go there.
Well the Mars scene was from a flashback from 100s of millions of years ago in which they also said that Sa is avoiding the Cocoon. It can just mean that back then Mars was yet to be destroyed by then.
Tho of course there's the whole Vita being a bridge between both parts which might imply something more going on.

In MiHoyo official timeline Mars destruction was prior to Venus.
The Proxy!Vita said to Marah that when it comes to Earth and Mars, she tries to test its border carefully. Sa doesn't care if there's anything she pay attention to, other than implanting her so called "rules" and hiding from the Honkai.
We still don't know what Sa's purpose is in testing the borders of Earth and Mars respectively. However, what is certain is that Sa is planning something up to no good for both planets, considering that she is responsible for the destruction of several bubble worlds, including the world where the Sugars live.
Also a side note, this is the first time we saw an instance when someone willing to cast away her humanity and becoming a monster that equally, if much worse than the Honkai. Talk about "the oppressed become oppressor" situation.
Well, in those infos MHY posted a couple days ago, they mention that Vita will be an important connection between part 1.5, and the start of part 2 in Mars

I don't think self-insert MCs are inherently bad, but they cannot be using a self-insert MC as an excuse for a lack of personality, story, or motivation. For example, I thought Captain from Captainverse was pretty good (albeit confusing since I haven't read everything single Captainverse event) despite being a self-insert MC.
I've read the recent magic girls Captainverse stories and the first one event story and his character does pretty good yeah.
There's a major stark difference in the way they built Captain vs Traveler/Trailblazer though. Captain is actually doing work while the Traveler and Trailblazer(especially Traveler) are just simply "there". Trailblazer is significant improvment but its not the same as an traditional MC we're looking for. Delete Paimon and actually have the Traveler talk for once and the story flow would be 10x better and we'd actually care about the Traveler.
@@kuvjason7236at least for trailblazer part we have moments where we don't see the world from their perspective (well 3 so far) so we can have an inkling of trailblazer's character in the eyes of the other character. Hopefully the new MC will be a mix of Adam and trailblazer or a pinch of Captain as well. Traveler in genshin is too passive imo

Kanchou (from Captainverse) is not a self insert, you are just put into a POV narrative story, and that's why you never see his face, just like there's omniscient perspective stories, he's his own character with personality and decisions
The only self insert is the Captain that appears specifically in Honkai Salvation Log, that one is the player (this "Player" captain is also the one that meets Kiana in the finale)
I'm honestly fine if they don't continue the trios' story. We all know they are already well developed as characters and still doing well till apho. Might as well leave it on a high note, let them cameo a bit here and there is enough.
At that point if the trio only do Cameo on future story their purpose will turn only as Fanservice for old player
People want at least a second Kiana. Making that one is not an easy feat since we only finally attached to Kiana around chapter 11 and that took ~1 - 2 years of plot building. But eh I'll just sit here waiting for the real release

@@aldirap9147 part 1, 2 and apho are all part of a single big story. Their purpose won’t become that, fans might perceive it that way because they’ll be obsessed with seeing the old cast, so every single tome they’re seen will be “for the fans” in their minds.
I noticed that 95% of the haters are actually either shippers, Captainverse haters, and people who play the game since 2021/2022. The old veterans I found, met, and talked to actually liked the new Part, since apparently they are really tired milking the old characters too much. CN players also like the new part. The only part that ALL of us hate is the idea of a self-insert MC, which Hoyo hopefully won't do because it kinda ruins the true original Honkai Impact experience.
And for the combat system, it doesn't actually change, it's still the same as usual. For the world interference will be like old times, and for combat, aerial battle modes (like jumping in combat/Abyss/MA) already existed in HoF, SW, and HoFi. So all in all the old combat system will definitely works.
The old combat works fine so long as the mostly-aerial enemies do not appear.
And the more aerial combat units appear, more content will be geared towards making use of the aerial combat mechanics.
I always had a problem with aerial combat. I love HoF and I understand it's generally not worth it to rework every older character, but something as simple as making ranged units's attacks target foes in the air (like archers do) and ajusting properties of high-hitting attacks so that they can hit those enemies would go a long way.
the combat is based of apho so it's a win-win (i loved apho 2 combat even more than base game combat)

This. I think that some complains are totally valid. (Even I have a few) It's fine to give feedback and express our opinions about the game's direction. The problem is when people are toxic towards the devs and others, and mask that toxicity as 'valid criticism'.
@@HomuLabs Even I who dont have complains almost all the time I have played Honkai (almost 5 years) and have loved all they had done have some this time, but I will wait and see what the devs bring to us hoping there are more improvement than problems, but yeah I dont like when some people just are haters and try to make the experience of others worst, but thats was expected since Honkai Impact have gained more and more attention
I've been playing this game since the beginning almost from GGZ, so it really breaks my heart not to see the old characters in the story but what hurts me most is that I was hoping for the captain to step inside the story
@@user-nz8eo7wp5s me as well, i start following Mihoyo's games from GGZ, and my only complaint at the moment is that they make the background of the character selection screen feels blank and empty, should just keep the bridge backgrounds like before...

The trio's story is over. However there are lots of characters who deserve more screentime such as susannah, dudu, rita, etc
@@metaphoricalemon835true, but let's save that for APHO 3. During the Salt Snow Arc we get to see a glimpse of the future which sets in or near APHO Timeline. Also it's best to let some of the supporting casts like Durandal and Rita be a supporting character. If everyone has their moments, it'll be a bland game, especially for the story.
@@shinhikaru yeah agreed on that last point, honkai's writing quality is just not good enough to support an ensemble cast. It's just a shame that part 2 cast seems to be a mostly blank slate

I’m honestly quite interested in Susannah’s character, so I kinda wish she had more screen time.
Having criticism or not liking something is fine, but people are just doomposting so hard when we know so little, to such extent that it will scare away the new players from ever trying the game, and *that* will be more detrimental to the game than anything part 2 can do.
I really think theyre gonna turn this into a game with a playerbase closer to the other games. I think thats the point. So while a lot of people hate change, im excited to go on twitch and see more than 4 viewers in the honkai section while genshin and star rail have 10k

@@Sambrokecn is different for all games but generally the playerbase is kinda smaller than both other games so it also makes sense
I genuinely doubt that it will happen. It surely will boost the playerbase but not even near close to HSR. Considering that it's an old game, naturally new players will feel left behind and there' also ZZZ, which has similar combat aspect to honkai and IS a new game. And most importantly no playable male character (maybe yet?) except the MC. That one is a HUGE deal.
Not gonna happen lol. More likely is that the overhaul alienates old players while new players are put off trying to pick up a seven yr old game
I got into this game rather late, so I don't have a lot of nostalgia to fall back on for my feelings, as I started with Genshin first. My worries are kind of related to why I think Honkai Impact is better than Genshin. And namely that boils down to actually having a main character, a small consistent cast instead of an ever bloating one, and the VN presentation combined with anime CG cutscenes.
Kiana is great and I love her, but it's not that the MC specifically has to be Kiana as much as they need to talk and be part of the story and be a real character. The Captain from Captainverse is close to that, so this team HAS done that, but the Dream Seeker's current status is up in the air. If they talk in cutscenes all the time and not just one line per chapter, I will be satisfied.
HI3 has had it's cast grow bigger but it's been handled in a much better way than Genshin where if you love say...Jean you basically only see in events and only because look at how tired and overworked she is. Star Rail has a mechanism to fix this, in the core cast traveling with us, but well the Luofu arc is amazing potential terrible, terrible execution.
As for the last point, this is mostly just me being salty at the fact that Seele didn't get a cg when she became a herrscher damn it, but c'mon. As well I just prefer the VN style of older chapters than the newer one where they try and make cutscenes like in Genshin in engine. Granted I know I'm a minority but I'm here for the wall of text and characters talking to each other in depth instead of 'snappier' dialogue. The last few chapters have been losing that and I think they're weaker because of it. Weaker as in more like Genshin, which I guess isn't bad but...the Theatre of Domination arc was incredible and I can't see Genshin or Star Rail ever doing anything like that, and if they adopt elements from those games, I worry we won't see anything like that again either.
Glad you cleared out most of the things, twitter has been a serious dumpster fire over the past few days but ppl are slowly regaining their senses, great video as always homu!

Part 2 exceeded all my expectations. The direction of the story is great. The engine upgrade makes it look like HSR (which is a HUGE positive) while having upgraded APHO combat. EXACLY what HSR haters wanted from it, but somehow it's a downside we are getting it instead? It's a dream come true.
I just don't understand the obsession with self inserts and hope they learned from mistakes made by other games.
Honkai said(more specific Otto: "let's the people from the past stay in past". while Elysia:"We decided to move forward ".) To move towards future. While some players want to stay and don't move on. Irony isn't it??
There used to be a Raiden Mei alter who was like those players _for 500 years_
Two years ago she had her will shaken, last year she fully embraced eternal change (and also oh fuk, Otto was revealed to exist in that world)

Great video as always! There's a few more things that I would like to point out.
The date is actually September 22nd. The trailer wrongly put 23rd. The CN promotional material you also showed on the video puts it at 22nd which is the date the trailer relased (maybe it was originally gonna be showcased on Saturday?).
Regardian the Sea Of Data they call it a 量子之海的变种空间 (Sea Of Quanta's Variant Space). "变种" here is probably it's metaphorical definition which means something which is formally different but in practice is the same (aka expect a 30 minute scientist discussion why it's formally different).
Don't think altered/mutated is the right translation for it because atleast from the dictionary I use it should only apply in biology (although of course dictionaries don't always cover everything so it might be wrong).
The Dreamseeker is mostly confirmed to be a self-insert since the devs said the player will play in the role of Dreamseeker and in the CN Anniversry exclusive Valkyrie Phone call Sinadya directly addresses the player by that name.
I don't find it accurate to call them the MC instead of a MC since just as the devs say both them and Kiana are just one protagonist of their stories and Honkai is a story which deals with multiple protagonists but that's just being pedantic.
Regarding Sinadya's phone call she talks about Helia and Coralie (which automatically disproves it being a past and present thing), Songque and one more character who'se name is something along the lines of Donegal. There's also a few more things like some details about the places and culture and some things about what Sinadya likes.

Ahh yess thank you for refreshing take .. im so tired of hate posting when they haven't played the part 2 yet. I get that you miss the old cast I too miss them, I think this is necessary to connect them in Apho, you'll never know we might love the new cast as we love the OG's.
Thanks for explaining it and making me feel comfortable cause i was just slightly pissed that Kiana was gone but now i know that it is all part of it.
The only way I can see this new dream seeker working is that a part of her ability is to switch her physical form *huffs copium* at will but the female or the male version is used more often. This is pure copium but god I hope this is the direction the game goes to.
Edit: I meant one of the 2 versions is used more often
It's so much harder for me to get invested when the MC is a silent self-insert. I really hope they give them a voice and they decide to use their voice more than 1 line per patch cycle unlike Genshin.
Well, honestly we can't expect that majority Mars resident really knew how to fight against Honkai beast. I mean look at how their civilization nearly extinct.
So its not that surprise if the Dreamseeker is just a normal human that didn't receiving any experiment to have a capability to harnessing Honkai energy. so if Dreamseeker is just a self insert character it's logical to the plot. He/she just a normal human coincidently meet with a digital God Senadina. Then for the first time confronting Honkai threat without even have any fighting experience.
But the toxic captain don't try to see it that way, they believe that every character must be capable to fight Honkai beast naturally, having a fully voice and likeable personality.
They complain like they the one making story of Honkai just because they understand the lore of Honkai. But they didn't notice sometimes you need a normal human to be a protagonist.
PS: Part 2 Mars is the adventure story specially made for Dreamseeker & Senadina, and all captain should try to believe the true potential of a normal human protagonist.

The characters not being "updated " is totally fine
We have already had aerial combat through kiana, bronya and carole and at the moment its non aerial characters are working perfectly fine the addition of more aerial characters does not change that
After playing for 5+ years I'm finally seeing a major update to the game all the new players are putting their life on the line to not let that happen??? Bro, have some trust in the guy who made you stick around the first part in the first place, I really like that Dawei is bold like that to pursue his own dream for the game instead of being led astray by randos who don't know what they are asking for. I know there are lot of loose ends and the story especially during Finality arc was ultra messy tho i disagree that modern chars story was "drawn out", because bro that's how character development works and it's important to close it for all the characters that were introduced as part of finality arc and we wouldn't have known why they were there or what they are upto, which now we know and is a good ending.
As for the new gameplay, I'm 101% sure whatever they'll do will be enjoyable, it will be an upgrade over whatever we have now. I don't know how they'll do it, but for now best is to wait and watch.
As for old characters, bro the lore is literally in middle of 2 timelines which is dominated by old chars, definitely they'll have a major role to play at some point, why do you want to see the same old faces in a brand new place and planet with its own problems, makes no sense to me.
So all the doomposters, pls shut up and let us hopeful ppl see what Dawei is upto, it could be trash but let us witness it with our own eyes instead of your fantasies.

I am fearful/worried about the new direction, like everyone else, but I been playing this game for a long time cause I love how the developers have progressed the story & it's cast of characters. I see no reason to suddenly distrust them when I have enjoyed the game for as long as I have. We all just have to wait & see.
To be fair, the Star Rail MC was introduced as a literal vessel for the Stellaron that did not initially have many defining personality traits. Kafka's companion quest revealed a lot about the MC and their early relationships and I think this will be a stepping stone towards learning more about the character. Aside from this, I felt Star Rail players have learned a lot about the MC's personality through routine gameplay. We joke about their obsession with garbage and their general desire to cause a little bit of chaos every now and then, but these do reflect the MC's natural personality of being a somewhat whimsical person.

Everything we know about the Dream Seekers points to the fact that she is a self-insert MC. They even have an event in CN right now where the players get calls from Senadina, and she refers to them as Dream Seekers instead of Captains. What they said in the dialogue that you pointed out is that HI3 doesn't have a single 'protagonist' and that it follows multiple perspectives. Kiana in Part 1, Captain in Captainverse, and Adam in APHO. On Mars, we will follow the story through the perspective of the Dream Seeker. We, the players, are them in this journey, but we can also look at them as regular characters in the story in the same way that Adam, the Trailblazer, and the Traveler are also technically 'characters' in their respective stories. I don't think that they will be anything more than your regular self-insert MC, but we'll have to wait and see.

Being completely honest I can receive with open arms the changes without problem, with the exception of one thing, the dream seeker; I'm truly worried about what they're planning to do with this character, the only thing I don't want to see is self insert, I mean for me it would be boring that having HSR and GI already with this formula now we have to add HI, this game has its elements that make it unique and some of them are, first the player as an spectator and second, main characters that aren't attached to the will of the player and live by themselves.
Well, I'll just wait and see.
Imo the self insert thing is not unsalvageable (inhales copium) Even if they planned her as a self insert character until now, if they see the community has a united opion about it (which EU seems have) They don't have much of a good reason to go with it. I am sure they could give her a name and voice in 5 months, and they'll be doing a lot of polishing anyway.
The design direction or musics can change at any time. Depending on how it's done self insert mc can have a lasting effect however.
So be sure to give feedback to the devs if you have any (through peaceful means of course). The only way I know is the in-game surveys at the ending period of versions though.
I’m excited for part 2. The only possibly gripe I may have is if they make the MC a self insert. I’m still stoked tho.

I think part 2 gonna end with Herrscher of The End waking up and we will have the Trio and the new characters trying to stop her.

That would be amazing! Unfortunately, I don't think they will do that now that Kiana has taken her place. I've always wanted to see HoTE in the game properly, though, especially if she was playable.

Thanks for providing some translations from the CN stream. I, too, was under the impression this was set in the distant future; but Bubble worlds make more sense. And that's a bummer about the old valks not getting aerial mechanics; or at least not confirmed yet.
Personally, I'm both excited and worried about Part 2. I'm worried that the silent protagonist MC is a sign that the characters will be more... well, Genshin-ish. Very flat, very basic personalities without a lot of nuance or growth. And, as Genshin has unfortunately shown, people like that and spend millions on it. Star Rail is a bit better with their characters, but it still doesn't have the same weight as HI3rd's. I hope that the quality of character writing continues to be excellent like in part 1 and 1.5.
On the other hand, I LOVE the fact that we're getting a new cast and setting. As much as I love the trio, their story is pretty much told. Mixing up the setting and cast is a bold move that not many companies would be willing to make and I can appreciate hoyo for doing it.
Here's hoping for the best for Part 2.
This is basically my sentiment. I’m concerned about the potential of a silent protagonist. I also would prefer some older characters to lead us into the new ones by passing the torch.
The more I’ve sat on this news, the more ok with it I’ve become. HoYo are good writers, but they’re also a business, so they will put quality into it in order to keep the fans coming back.
i like these changes, i don't know why this will not be honkai anymore... i don't see it like that, this should be a new adventure... perfect for new characters to introduce, our beloved trio already saved their world... so its time for a change.
And i'm pretty sure that Kiana will be there no matter what.
My take is that the new self-insert is not a long term thing - but that might just be copium.
I'm mainly basing that on the whole area they're in seems to be pre-disaster and thus temporary, with the later focus being the two characters on (ruined?) Mars. It's hard to establish the settings just yet with what they've provided us though.

Star Rail MC insert have a few voice lines and in the CN stream, the new MC do have a CN VA listed for her. So she may not be completely silent. I just hope she gets to say more lines than Genshin and Star Rail to be more personable

I don't get the rage towards having a new cast. While it would be nice to have our old crew cameo from time to time, they're story is almost entirely done. Looking at you, APHO. It's nice to be introduced to new characters, and hopefully to develop some characters who haven't had the full treatment yet. Looking at you, Theresa and Fu Hua.
I was one of those who theorized that Dreamseeker's portion would be in the past, using a Previous Era Mars colony as a way to explain how there was an Earth-like civilization on Mars, but there isn't one now. Bubble universes also work fine as an explanation. I'm still working under the theory that those anchors are functioning to anchor the bubble worlds to the prime world so they don't dissipate. Data from dead bubble worlds being recycled is an interesting theory too, although it had been my previous understanding that the Imaginary Tree uses energy it takes from the Sea o Quanta in their war to create new bubble worlds that grow on it. But that still takes the imagery of the Tree and Sea more literally than it seems to be meant to. But enough about that. I'm certainly looking forward to seeing how the new characters work.
I don't know if the new engine and mechanics would be enough to make _HI3_ 's playerbase more like _Genshin_ 's and _HSR_ 's. I've always seen the lack of an EN dub and cross-play as _HI3_ 's biggest barriers to becoming as popular, if not more so, than those games. In a way it's a shame that not as many people are enjoying what _HI3_ has to offer, and so many people refer to _HSR_ as 'Honkai' because they just don't know there are two (three if you count _Genshin_ , going by its original working title) other such named games. But it's not like they can't play it, it's a matter of choice not to play it. On the other hand, X-Twitter not knowing about _HI3_ as a whole means that they can't get upset at all the fantastic character designs, and try to have them censored. Which I certainly hope Mihoyo wouldn't do anyway.
Besides all of the other critism i see from other people (which are totally valid and i agree with some of them), i think the thing that bothers me the most is that i dont want Honkai Impact to become a fully open world game. I like exploring but i feel exhausted and overstimulated play genshin impact and star rail to some extent. I really hope the open world they wanna make will be something closer to the other Chapters with a map (like Chapter 32 & 37).
I don't think that it will be fully OW. From what we've seen, it looks like we are going to have some hub areas to move around, and I would assume that the combat maps will be more similar to what we have now in Part 1.5.

I think that if we just think abour it more as a apho prequel it might actually be more fun rather than a honkai 2.0, for example since we know adams honkai resistance is quite strong and capable itll make alot of sense to expand his bloodline to the mc (maybe they are lost siblings? Stuff like that!) And have an mc off between the two where they interact between stories...
I just hope theres less text, better pacing and less fancy science jargon. The moon and seele arc really burn me out
I will admit that my first impression of part 2 was not great and left me feeling kind of disappointed. But this video provided some very nuanced input and made me more excited for what’s to come! Keep up the good work!
I do hope they will add aerial combat to all characters, retroactively. It's the one thing that kept me from getting into the game so far (that and the new player experience, I hope they revamp that too)

Not liking a Self-insert silent protagonists is like Not liking Link.

I think that the reason why people took it so bad is the fact that we've had Kiana, a fully independed character in the past, so this feels like a downgrade. It's like having Link as a normal character (not silently protag) for the entirety of the Zelda series, then - suddenly, making him silent from Botw onwards.

hey man, i know i probably won't get a reply but i thought i'd ask anyway; i've seen a lot of people commenting on griseo being aged up & this not making sense because "mantis can't age" but i'm struggling to find anywhere in lore that this is stated outright.
i know that fu hua likely doesn't age due to SWARA & kevin was trapped in the sea of quanta, so this might've halted any physical aging. but aside from that, i can't find any information that says they can't age physically. do you know anymore on this?

It was never outright stated that they don't age, but it was implied. In the manga, Dr. MEI says that the reason why Fu Hua needs to undergo the SWARA treatment was because she only became a MANTIS at 17, so her brain wasn't fully development yet and she needed the treatment to further stimulate it. Tbf, the way MANTIS power works is can be very different from case to case. We have Mobius, who we know for sure that could age. In the recent event, Luna (who is also a MANTIS) slowly grow over 10k years inside the rift. Also, keep in mind that from a biological standpoint there is a big difference between growing up and aging. (getting old) We grow up because our bodies follow a 'blueprint', but we are getting old because our cell regeneration is not perfect and cells cannot fully regenerate as time passes. If our cell regeneration was flawless, we wouldn't grow old in the first place. So it could be possible for MANTISES to grow until adulthood, but not age past that. Honestly, we'll have to wait and see. I'm sure they'll explain it in the story.
A decir verdad si me causa un poco de preocupación la parte 2 porque veo las claras inspiraciones de los otros juegos como intento de llegar a más gente, y eso no es malo, hasta que te acuerdas del farmeo rng y el 50/50, en lo poco que vimos del gameplay se ve como las ultis son mucho mas cortas, como si fuera el genshin, y las animaciones de las ultis largas y que se toman su tiempo es de los aspectos que más me gustan del juego.
Eso en cuanto a lo que puede pasar, en cuanto a lo que vimos si me gusto mucho, excepto el diseño de los nuevos personajes, me parecen super genéricos la verdad.

The pattern with Mihoyo games seems to be if one game has problem it will be fixed in the other. Example: people complained that Genshin MC lacked personality and Voice lines so they gave Star Rail MC more personality and Voice lines, so maybe this new Ho3 MC is better form of that.
As for Adam.... can someone clarify if he has a backstory or not? Cause in APHO 2 Lyle mentioned that he knows Adam and while Lyle likes to ether exaggerate or make up stories you are given the option to acknowledge that you have met before, so which one is true?

Hot take though: Genshin's so-called "self-insert MC" isn't even hardly a self-insert and it even seems to be implicated the MC is quite literally a part of the story. What I mean is if they are a self-insert, the MC should be more or less completely detached. But because of how the plot even entangles the MC to the story itself, to me at least, it doesn't even seem like MC is detached. Other forms of self-insert storytelling does not have this and would just lead into multiple endings. We don't even have complete influence as us players on how the direction of the story or how characters in the story of genshin thinks. Its literally a big storybook unfolding.
If a story did have some self-insert, we should have some form of influence to it which is why self-insert MCs are completely detached from story. Hi3, like a lot of people has been complaining, doesn't also seem to go that way. (Star rail is more of a shitpost by devs lets be real here)
