I have praised this podcast frequently but this one outstrips them all , what a brilliant bloke Lou is , honest down to earth modest Guy and also had me in stiches with some of his stories 🤣
I met Lou’s daughter in Stockton heath while working at the fancy pub there doing security , didn’t know at first she was Ms Macari but after a few months we were talking and I said my family’s from Stoke and she says her dad used to play for Scotland and lives in Sunny Stoke and the Scotland match was live on the telly there. I’ve stood in the boothern end at the Victoria ground so I’m interested and quick as a flash thought I bet her dads Skip to my Lou … I asked her and she was shocked I’d guessed it like that but I’m a big Stoke 90’s Lou Macari fan so I said I’ve watched her dad at Stoke and he’d come out the dug out to wave to the fans in the boothern end when they sang Skip to my Lou and just want to say his daughters super nice and friendly too Cheers lads 👍
Let this sink in for a second - Lou Macari hasnt been given an MBE, OBE or a knighthood. No honour from the country. A selfless and talented man as you will find. He deserves every bit of praise he gets. Not that you'll hear Lou complaining.
I watched him many times at old Trafford , From the stands you can see who's working. He was like Rooney. Never stopped , chased back to win the ball . Skill and always in the right place. (and he was a director of our Sunday league) . All about heart. At least an M.B.E or O.B.E. needed for what he does. Some man.
What a bloke could sit and listen too him for hours. Such a modest bloke for what he's done. An absolute inspiration how he's helped people and still is.
I loved this man since my Panini stickers days in 1978. What an absolute legend he is for careing about the homeless in 2021. He clearly appreciates how lucky he was, and is. But still thinks of others less fortunate than himself. Love the guy👍👍
You tell me who else would create a brilliant place for the homeless " The Lou Macari Centre " , he got up off his backside and took up the mantle after witnessing at first hand what was happening in Hanley full credit to him . Nello is a legend in this part of the world , and in Lou giving him a job it lifted the players sprits just look at Lou's record for that time it speaks volumes. Thanks gents for a fantastic Podcast the best one yet. The lad off the plane was named Tattoo aka Herve Villechaize fantasy Island .
Love all the episodes but as a Manc coming up to 70 I could really relate to this , it had me crying with laughter, the wife thought I’d finally flipped.
Another great podcast. One of my heroes during the Docs time at old Trafford. Brilliant work that he's doing for the homeless people of Stoke. Lovely man
Top fella came across really well. Watched Marvellous on the back of this and what a film! Cried and laughed all the way through what a story. Big up Lou Macari and Nello that’s what football is all about! ❤️
Best episode of a football podcast I’ve seen yet! Phenomenal this one! Had it all, what a career and what a character. Pity this type of player/manager is completely gone from the game now!
Celtic supporter. What a fantastic thing Lou is doing, loved the stories and he is 100% correct when he says there are no characters in the game anymore.
Now this is how to tell a yarn, as opposed to Mad Dog Allen who made me feel tense in case he used his one of his long pauses to try and create extra drama 😃. Lou is a legend for what he is doing to help those who have fallen through the cracks. We’re all only a divorce, redundancy and couple of missed mortgage payments from being in the same predicament as those Lou and his team are looking after. Especially with what has happened over the past 14 months.
Absolutely brilliant again. I'd agree with what other's are saying, had no idea about the work Macari had done with the homeless and have not seen Marvellous but will definitely look it up. Think it goes to show the criticisms people make about "the culture of football" and about the money and the greed doesn't tell the whole truth about some of the inspirational figures who made it in the game and gave back to the communities and supporters. The game needs more people like Lou who understand that connection clubs have with their fans.
What he's done for the homeless..... Jesus Christ what a good man...I've been homeless, not to many ppl like Lou tbf An absolute gem of a player according to me oul fella Fair play to him ❤️🇮🇪
Fantastic video, had to laugh when Lou called Jinky little Jimmy, gives you an idea how small he was but he was really head and shoulders above them all.
My god... this was so funny. Those Kit man stories were hilarious. I’ve ordered the dvd straight after listening. This podcast keeps getting better and better
Lou Macari what a bloke , eye opening used to watch him play as a kid , what a truly kind man he is . Well done lads can't believe how far the three of you have come from podcast 1 with just sound and interviewing shithouse about cloughie
Interesting that homeless charities would be against an honest organisation helping the homeless isn't it? Like they're profiting big time and Lou is showing them up with his actions
I'd been to Stoke games here and there since I was 5 but Italia 90, when I was 8, is when I became properly obsessed with football. From the start of the 90-91 I was a fully invested Stoke City fan and Lou Macari was our king. We had dropped to the third tier and the fans had endured some hard times. Macari's team is my most beloved from over 30 years following the club. I saw us win at Wembley in the Autoglass and get promotion as Division 2 Champions in my first two proper seasons as a fanatic. I didn't see these as minor honours at that age, they are moments I'll treasure forever and I was seeing us win every week, I presumed that is what being a Stoke fan would always be like! When Lou left I realised it wasn't. An absolute hero of mine and of Stoke on Trent. He likes to help people. Be it Nello all them years or the homeless now. God bless you Lou
Stoke City season ticket holder here…Lou is a legend in these parts 👍 When he was Stoke manager he built a great team…full of character and a never say die attitude…great days. My favourite game was the Autoglass Trophy semi final second leg, away at Peterborough Utd. Huge Stoke following and a Paul Ware (RIP) winner…great night and it sent 40,000+ Stokies to Wembley where we beat Stockport County. Truly a great time to be a Stokie…cheers Lou 👍
Lou doesn't mention it but when he took over at Stoke we were in the doldrums. I think we'd just finished 14th in what is now League 1, which was our lowest finish in the football league ever, or in a century or something like that. This was only 15 years after being title contenders in the old 1st division. Macari got the club back on an upward trajectory and into the Championship playoffs. I genuinely think hiring Nello and the culture that ensued contributed to that revitalisation, so when he said to Nello on his first day at work "you're going to be my greatest success" tongue in cheek, well not only was Nello part of the revitalisation of the club in the early-mid 90s, but 20 years later had a BAFTA winning biopic made about him. So you could definitely argue that Nello was indeed Macari's greatest success in management.
Brilliant episode - what a bloke, had me in stitches! Shame it's not a 2 parter as I'm sure there's plenty more from his playing/managing days to go on. Also be good if there's a link to donate to Lou's homeless charity, would like to support his great work in some way if possible?
These podcasts keep getting better and better guys. What a great guy Lou is and what a great load of stories he has. How on earth can seven people have given this the thumbs down? I hadn't heard of Neil Baldwin, but I'm now going to get the book and DVD. Awesome stuff!!!
Lou, a super nice guy and what a fantastic project. I had the pleasure to meet him at OT and he spent around 10 mins talking to me and my friend. A class act
This was sensational this episode lads. What a nice man he is. He sounds identical to Stevie Nicol. They must come from the same area. The accents are very alike
Absolute legend as a player at Celtic - part of the 'Quality Street Kids' squad in the late 60s early 70s. A disaster as manager, genuinely one of the worst in history.
Parkin never played for my club... but had to buy his book, proper baller!! These podcasts make football real... forget about all the money and man utd/ Glazer's bollocks
Lou macari . Total legend . Cursed him for scoring a dodgy goal against Liverpool at Wembley( Stuart Pearson) but after seeing this and listening to his observations on the modern game ....have nothing but admiration .
Grew up in Sale and used to play against Lou's lad now and again, I remember one time his lad scoring from the half way line when when we were 10 or 11 years old! Lou was there watching that one and spent time after the game giving me and loads of other young lads his autograph, top man and obviously a good heart!
I think to get Lou a mbe or whatever you write to the queen or someone like that and explain what they are doing and the reasons for it and in your opinion deserves some recognition for that . That’s basically how it works it takes a member of the public to nominate them and go from there ..👍
Top man lou, my old mans hero when he was at utd small skillfull and the heart of a lion he said.and what hes doing now is incredible.thanks under the cosh another nugget there 👊👊
Thoroughly enjoyed that. As a Rangers fan, I can recall his time as manager of Celtic when the club were a joke. He is an old school Celtic man though - which I will always respect. Doing a fantastic job there in Stoke.
Huge hats of to Lou for the incredible work he has done in setting up the Macari centre. The stories involving the kit man were priceless. Sean Fallon was from Sligo not Cork. I don't necessarily agree that Tommy Doc got rid of the holy trinity because of feeling overshadowed. He knew he had to put his own stamp on the side following the unsuccessful spells of McGuinness and O'Farrell as manager at OT. Also bear in mind that Charlton was 35, Law was 32 and Best had fallen out of love with the game. I don't think Lou gives the Doc enough credit as a manager. He built a superb United side that played the game in a manner beloved by supporters. I think he would have won the league if off field activities hadn't forced the board to sack Docherty.
As a Vale fan back in the day of loads of important promotion or cup tie local derbies, Lou Macari was the antichrist. As time moves on I look back on these great days with a smile. A tenacious footballer and manager. A legend of a guy, nothing but respect on and off the pitch

He was a lovely guy and thank you for the lovely comment.
Best football content on UA-cam by far. Funny and helped me through the shitty lockdowns.

This is probably the best podcast I have ever heard. What a top bloke.
Let this sink in for a second - Lou Macari hasnt been given an MBE, OBE or a knighthood. No honour from the country. A selfless and talented man as you will find. He deserves every bit of praise he gets.

Surely needs a part 2 this, he must have so many more stories from his managing days after he left Stoke.
Lmao the Neil Baldwin stories were class, great podcast. Lou is a sound guy for helping the less fortunate too, full respect ✊
My favourite stoke manager.absolute legend

Thank you Lou for everything you're doing for the people of Stoke-On-Trent, and that's from the heart of a VALE fan well done matey
Proper football man and quality human being. I'll be donating. From a Liverpool fan
Best one yet boys, Lou was a hero of mine growing up and seeing him around Sale was always a treat. I never knew he was so funny.
Easily one of the best interviews you've done. Massive respect to Lou - a humble hero.

There’s been some good podcasts but this one is best of the lot, I was crying when he told the story of the commentator being kidnapped
This has to be my favourite so far, such a lovely bloke and super humble too.

Interesting that homeless charities would be against an honest organisation helping the homeless isn't it? Like they're profiting big time and Lou is showing them up with his actions
It's not just homeless charities unfortunately the bigger ones are run as businesses now and need the constant revenue to pay the directors
That’s why people should stop giving to the big charities, they’re disgraceful
Charities are a complete racket. Don't give to any of them
The lords of poverty don't like anyone acting independently and achieving far better results than them.
