I'm really glad that I finally found a video where the teacher explains how to organize a learning plan in a clear way and don't try to sell us any apps. Thanks a lot!

Hello, Inna! Thanks for this video! I realized just recently that all 4 language kills are really connected and should be practiced equally. I ve been practicing pronunciation for several years, but my speaking and writing are a little bit neglected. As a result, a lack of writing stops me from improving my speaking, while a lack of speaking doesn't let me be focused on intonation because when I speak I stumble and pause trying to find appropriate words etc...
Absolutely! If you're overlooking one of them, your general performance is going to suffer. And you're giving a great example! One can work on connected speech as much as they want, but if their general fluency (which includes vocabulary, grammar, and speed of thinking) is lagging behind, not much pronunciation work is going to stick
Thank you! Not 1-on-1 lessons, but I'll be offering a pronunciation course with sounds, rhythm, intonation, connected speech + speaking practice and an emphasis on fluency around May-June 2024. I'll announce it here and on Instagram @inna.in.english
This video cleared me , how should I practice to learn it effectively.I have been learning English since 2019, However, I m not satisfied with my improvment yet. The mistake I was doing was listening many series or watching different kind series always which are hard to understand, moreover, I was thinking the more you know the better you get in , to be honest it was wrong, now I learn less and revise more what I have learned. Because of you I'm gonna watch what is easy to understand. Thanks for the video.
Great video!! One of the things I did to “trick” the algorithm for YT was to create language-specific accounts for it and ONLY access videos in your target language. I’ve done this for Swedish (my current TL) and a couple others, and it’s very useful to get YT to suggest TL video content. Another thing I’ve done has been to watch the news once I hit an A2 level in the language. I’ll first watch the national news in English from one of the major networks, then access a similar “network” in my TL (such as Univision for Spanish). Since I’ll have seen/heard the major stories in English, I know what’s going on. I can then take notes if needed for my TL. I’m not at that level yet in Swedish, but hope to be in about 6-8 months. Finally…I never would have guessed English wasn’t your native language until I saw the video of you speaking the 5 languages you know. In this particular video, there was only one spot that I heard where it didn’t sound like a native accent to me (I’m American but am used to British accents generally), and that was only because I was “listening for it.” And, as the other commenter wrote, "revision" isn't a word we'd use in American English to mean "review."
Thank you for your comment! Generally, I wouldn't recommend watching the news until you're at around B2, because the vocabulary tends to be really complicated, with all the terms and often complex grammar. However, I don't believe in absolute must-do's and no-no's in language learning. So, if it workd for you, why not? For those who live in Europe, Euronews could be a great way to do what you're describing. They've got news in many different languages and I generally think it's a great idea to watch the same pieces in your native language and the one you're learning. Heard about 'revision' :) Well, that's the word we use in ESL in Europe.
So true! Not practicing your English pronunciation is an excuse! There are so many great UA-cam channels, podcasts, and online apps that can help. What is everyone's favorite solution? Let's share ⤵⤵⤵
Thank you. Worth mentioning that voice recognition sometimes doesn't recognize words in your native language too, so don't be hard on yourself with a foreign one :D I have a question about flashcards, there are lots of videos about Anki & Quizlet but most of them are for beginners, like, how to use the apps, how to make flashcards "word in a target language -> word in a native language", but what about higher levels? What types of flashcards do you recommend? Should they include native language too or only a target one?
True! Thank you for this comment. As for flashcards, I do want to address the issues that you mentioned in a video about flashcards. I actually even used them while preparing for the C2 Cambridge exam a while back. And you can definitely do a lot more with them than just word-translation. Stay tuned! And thank you for the questions
@@innainenglish Thank you for your answer. I just feel a bit lost. Flashcards helped me a lot in the beginning of studying languages but starting B1-B2 in each language I stop feeling progress and get bored. I've tried "definition -> word/phrase", "fill in example sentence", "sentence in Russian(native) -> sentence in target language"(after I saw a video that you need to connect new information to the old one to build a network). I've tried just having a log book and re-reading phrases/sentences from previous study sessions (this doesn't feel productive at all, simple reading doesn't help). I also saw a recommendation to just have lots of input, and check the words you don't know and need, and after a few times you'll eventually learn them, and this doesn't feel right, I'm a person who loves lists and seeing how much I achieved/learned :D So I came to the conclusion that either I don't do proper flashcards or I should use them in a different way, maybe make a story using each flashcard due today. I don't know, will be waiting for your video :)
Another advantage of recording your own voice. The ear gets used to the different sound of a foreign language. As for reading books, books in PDF are very convenient, as there is a function for both translation and reading.
Inna, thank you very much for such an educational video! I am also studying German now, and I would like to ask your advice on the textbook you are studying with.
thank you for the video. I like watching vlogs too! videos based on comprehensive input method are also very useful. you can start watching them even from A1.
Its true that vlogs are useful to learn new vocabulary more easily, in my case I play those videos daily to practice the language. BUT the movies and series helped me a lot to improve listening in different accents, although I still struggle understanding what they say sometimes.
It's great! I agree, it's a great way to improve your understanding of different accents. If watching series while understanding less than you'd like to doesn't make you anxious, of course go for it!
Dear Inna, would you be so kind and share with me what textbook did you use to learn German. I am trying to come back to this language after so many years and would like to find some good one. Taking into consideration your extensive knowledge in term od languages in generalyour recommendation will definitely be a success. I will be extremely grateful for your reply. By the way, your videos are more than great. Kind regards. Barbara ❤
Sure! I used Menschen for A1 and A2 on my own, loved it! Then for B1.1 I did a course at a language school and we used Netzwerk. Then for B1.2 I just kept reading Deutsch Perfekt, which is an absolute must for intermediate learners of German (those who can have access to it and afford it of course).
Thank you very much Inna. I am extremely grateful for your reply. Wishing further success at your foreign languages journey. You are very gifted, by the way. Kind regards ❤

Very useful. I registered an online tutor platform to practise spoken English, but I find it was not efficient and effective if student is not prepared enough. For me now, the only biggest problem is that I don't know how much and how long shall I practise and learn myself to achieve enough level.
Unfortunately, no one can answer this question for you. The time you'll need varies a lot. But if we're speaking about how much time you should dedicate to learning every week, the simple answer is of course, as much as you can :) But I would suggest at least 4 hours a weak, preferably spread over the week rather than crammed in one day

Мое происхождение не секрет :)
Recently I did it apply for this purpose but nothing.
What did you apply? For what purpose?
And what about reading books?
I mean, I just don't think it's essential or the most efficient way to improve in a foreign language. I myself am a book lover and I read a lot in all languages, but it's not something essential to a language learning plan I think
When I listening everything seems easy but when it comes to respond it's like ouh tough😔
The only way to learn speaking is to speak :)
If I understand everything you say without subtitles, what level of listening do I have?
I'd say B2 or higher
narrow listening what does it mean?
