Love these tips. On the note about the flag being an indicator only for that spot, keep in mind whether your shooting line is sheltered. If you're shooting from an undercover or have buildings or trees blocking the line, you might not feel the wind that is blowing across the open field.

      Great point NUSensei!
There is so much skill in reading the wind, I've been watching a lot of the archers at the Olympics struggle with the tricky wind in the stadium.
The grand stands and arena channel the wind and make it swirl, which is very difficult to read!

@@RogueArcheryTV Problem in the stadium is that you do not retrieve your own arrows so you do not get to feel the wind across the field between ends.

One thing that can be daunting is wind coming over a building behind the shooting line. We have it at our club where it tends to drop down past the shooting line and will push arrows down even if it's a tail wind. You are sheltered from the wind (sort of) but arrows can be all over the target if it's gusty.
Also have a look at the flags next to your lane. Sometimes only one color flag picks up the wind early so your flag is not moving but the lanes next to yours is not. I guess because of the alternating colors they use a different fabric?

How do you hear the wind in the trees with the guns going off? 🤔

Would archery in the wind be similar to golf? I don't play it physically, but I do play the online version with real courses against other people.. Just thinking it may help others with the wind concept for drift etc

How important is core stability (lowering your centre of mass, engaging your glutes with leg rotation, etc.) when shooting in the wind? I get that better stability is always better regardless of the weather, but in the wind should you concentrate more on keeping that core engaged or more on aiming off?

      That's a great question.
Core stability is very important to shooting in the wind. The stability of the shot is gained from the group up, so if you lose engagement through your hips, core or shooting posture, then you cannot stabilise or brace against the wind.
However, you should always have your posture and core engaged, so it's not something that you do differently, or only when it's windy!

Feel the wind when walking to the target and back.
