Oh yeh! Everything you really need. A good chef can cook anything in a kitchen...a great chef can cook on a hot rock! Jody Rocks!!! I am so pleased that you honor your instructors and their ideas! I have seen you do that many times... giving credit! When we move ego out of the way, we all learn more! Just want you to know someone notices that generosity of spirit that lives in you! Thank you for sharing!!!
Went to my local State Store for a couple of bottles of Four Queens the selves were empty! They said some Coal cracking guy came in and bought it all. Thanks Buddy!!
I cut a small piece of wood to the diameter of my bag, gives a solid bottom and a cutting board. I will now have to cut a piece leather to that same diameter (pot holder, strop, etc) Awesome Video!!!
I was about ready to say that.. There is no way anyone is going to carry that kind of equipment with them.. Not unless they have a permanent campsite in the woods somewhere.. My little cooking tin it is round it looks like a little ufo😂😂.. That is all I need.. There's no way i'm going to carry a hundred pound bag of equipment.. All of these videos I have seen with the really large backpacks.. That is absolutely insane if you're going to do that then get yourself a mule A donkey.. Then you can name the donkey shrek😂😂😂.. You don't need thousands of pounds of equipment ..
I am definitely adding a leather pot holder to my kit. I already have a thin aluminum disposable pie tin cutout on the bottom of my cookset bag to shield picnic tables from my alcohol stove, so a piece of leather for insulation from cold surfaces would help while cooking as well as doubling as a pot holder (I removed the handles from my titanium pot to save weight on long hikes), and I don't need to carry a pair of leather gloves in the summer. Thanks, Dan!
I Like !!!!...... Im thinking about a canvas bag like that...(Hint,hint store item! ) I normally carry a small cook kit and more tins in my food bag for flour...beans...rice and jerky,s ...teas & Coffee and that would foot the bill well !!
I've had my mouth washed out by lye soap many a time, I'm still alive. Lye is Caustic, not toxic but when mixed with fat, and water to make soap (After fully cured), or even cooked with it is perfectly fine because it is neutralized in the processes. Remember Lye can be made with wood ash, which is what my grandmother did.
a bit light my set is the Stanley frying pan and 1-1/2 quart pot with a hobo utensil set with couple small flippers and spoons i found at dollar tree for cooking with a spice kit and a couple squeeze bottles for oil and soap in that bag the wallyworld GSI copy folding handle cup is with the water bottle that has the Stanley 2 cup mini pot it sits in is in the water bottle bag with an extra spoon and a shaker of salt if i want to use that separate!! throw a roll of tinfoil and a rack for a cooking grate in the pack good to go for almost everything!!
Those pots from the old Boy Scout style mess kits suck big-time. Because they aren't very deep for their diameter, if food should shift to one side of the pot the ENTIRE CONTENTS of the pot will spill out in a micro-second! You would be best to trade it out for a deeper pot with a bail.
Jody's ball bag 😂😂!! Jody is the gourmet chef of the woods, the stuff he made up at the wild edibles class was excellent. Please tell him hi from me.Those Coalcracker Bushcraft bags are awesome, I have 3 with different kits I made up. I definitely like this cooking kit such a great idea. Another awesome video as always brother 👍 💪
If you are JUST starting out in this world of outdoor camping and want a nice starter kit, look into the GSI Haulite MicroDualist eating system. It has almost everything you need for your camp kitchen. Upgrades are welcome as you continue to bushcraft.
2:12 "I became a fan of seasoning lately, I use salt and pepper". No wonder the hallway beepers make fun of Americans if this is what they consider "seasoning"
You don’t have a coal region accent???? I notice you don’t say ya fuck ya or yo our lad or ho butt . Us coal region people have the most unheard of but most recognizable accent in the world! People that aren’t from the area think we are from Ireland lol
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say, "spice bottles". 😂 Just kidding! If you look on his website under the description, under 'food and cooking' he sells the entire kit for $16.00 if they're in stock. It's a pretty good deal considering you probably couldn't get the stuff at the store for that.
My long distance cycle touring kitchen is based on Trangia27, with a thin, flexi plastic prep/cutting biard, dedicated food paring knife, spice kit inc small pepper piston grinder, wooden spoon, oil, tea, coffee, honey, stock cubes. Scouring cloth , dish cloth. I tried soap but reverted to detergent on camp sites. This is for real cooking; you cant live off plastic bag camping food for 3 months. My finest meal was a decent 3 course steak dinner. The cloth food bag is a good idea.
Perfect timing. I have an old metal Coleman cooler which I use as dry storage for my main camping kitchen, rope handles to put a pole through for two people to carry. But I have a new pack I'm trying to kit out for ranging, but not like one for distance backpacking. I have lots of options, and was trying to spread out all of my other cooking gear to see what I could use and what I still need. Great vid to help me sort my thinking. Thanks.
Love the "lye soap" comment. As a soapmaker, I know that the lye used in making soap is of no danger; it needs to set and cure for a few weeks (depending upon the recipe and amount used). Lye is a catalyst (saponification process) for the other ingredients that makes soap...soap! Some claim to "make" soap using a process called "melt and pour", which uses a base "soap" that has already been processed and thus has no lye content. Traditional soap made with lye doesn't have any lye content either, because it is neutralized during the process and no sodium hydroxide (lye) remains. Great kit! Similar to my own kit. I carry unscented soap of our own make for use afield; unscented so it doesn't attract bugs with perfumes. The bag is easy to replicate from an old pant leg. I like to use cargo pants for the cotton fabric and an added pocket on the bag!
It’s always a treat to see the gear others are putting together and using. Another fun and informative video from Dan at Coal Creacker Bushcraft. 👍 My only suggestion…. Keep making them! And have a blessed, peaceful and Merry Christmas!
I made a kit quite similar to that and I bought a cheap 8x10 thin wood cutting board from Walmart and cut it round to fit the bottom of the bag. Just an added tool suggestion for anyone who does a lot of food prep in the woods instead of at home prior to your trip.
Since you like spices, replace your salt with granulated garlic or powdered garlic. It takes about 2 weeks to get used to the change, but, garlic is good for you but salt is bad! If you still want salt, then make sure it is Himalayan sea salt; it has minerals that your body needs. Garlic affects your taste buds the same as salt, but salt is bad for you where garlic is good for you. Just thought you might like this tip. I like your videos, thank you!
Bloody decent kit there, mate. May I just add 1 addition - a sponge or pot scrubber. These are now part of the Aussie Army Rations Accessories Packs.
Brass wire brush?😊
A bit of his lye soap or ash from the fire pit with some leaves or grass can improvise for a decent scour brush.
love the channel , i'm a die hard wool guy , where is your shirt from, it is wool right
I've got my granddad's WWII Army Ranger cook set. I will NEVER part with it.
Eating is one of the greatest pleasures in life. Dont half ass it. Love the spice box.

You are a martial artist. Yes we honor our teachers.
A fluffed out cotton ball or a bit of flax tow in the spice kit will keep the bottles from rattling around (or breaking!). Nice kit!
Another great video showing how to make life easier in Bush craft land. Can't wait to start hiking.
Thank you for consistently offering value through your content.

Did you say that your friend's bag was blue😂.😂. And you called it a ball bag.. You know where i'm going with this..😂😂
I have one of those old Boy Scout cook kits, those things are great and are practically indestructible.

Merry Christmas, Dan, and to all the guys and gals at Coalcracker. Keep on keepin' it simple!
I brought a 9 inch skillet, a cup and a spork on my last trip. My dream cook kit would probably add a Dutch oven and a tea kettle.
I've had my mouth washed out by lye soap many a time, I'm still alive. Lye is Caustic, not toxic but when mixed with fat, and water to make soap (After fully cured), or even cooked with it is perfectly fine because it is neutralized in the processes. That leather circle at the end is probably the most unexpected part of the kit. I like it.
My brother got my son and I Coalcracker sweatshirts for Xmas this year, we love them!
Nice. Could add a small cutting board if you wanted.
Very cool kit. Thanks for sharing.

Add to that, a small container of DAWN dish soap and a scrubbing pad to clean your stuff with.

I like the piece of leather idea

Maybe nobody else likes seasoning? Smells like another sales pitch... 3:08 Yep. Another sales pitch.
Wow thats really cool thank you Sir
2:12 "I became a fan of seasoning lately, I use salt and pepper".

Add a chain to connect to the hooks and or pots to hang.

Where can you buy lye soap. My grandmother told me she was a lye soap helper when she was a child. Tallow and wood ashes. Easy enough I guess.
Cool cool
Nice kit! Will we see Jody's Ballsack on the Coacracker website soon?
The lighter, the better!

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say, "spice bottles". 😂

All my kitchen cloths are walnut died..
didn't knew the dye was so strong.
I know now!🤗
Why did your kitchen cloths die? And what did walnuts have to do with it?
@@susanp.collins7834 I'm Dutch, sorry.

Another great video, Dan. Happy Holidays to you and yours and all the great people at your company.
Woogie?
Nice setup. A cheap bamboo cutting board cut to fit the bag might be a usefull addition to the leather.
Merry Christmas Dan your information is in valuable 😁
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
❤❤❤
Simple, efficient, and multipurpose, I like it.
Excellent video Dan!!!
too much shit to do at work im gettin me a cook kit n sayin fuck it
The "like" count is insufferable. "He was like" and "I was like" and "it was like" … Like, grow up.
