- This was one car that I didn't want to hand back at the end of the week. I have always been a fan of the under-dog and I would gladly drive the Volvo over BMW/Mercedes rivals.

This may not be relevant, but my 20 cars we should get in the UK vid will be coming tomorrow. There are some other cars I could have added like the Nissan Maxima or the Nissan Murano, but I couldn’t fit them in.

Great review! Can definitely see improvements in video production in recent videos. More smooth and professional looking! Really like how you go into depth on the important things such as the breaking and economy dropping once out of electric. Really useful to know if you’re looking to buy one.
Great review and congrats on hitting the 5k! I do think Volvos are so underrated. It still offers the technology and safety compared to other luxury brands. With the rise of EVs and great dealership incentives, I do think Volvo have potential to become another luxury brand that could compete or out compete the German rivals.
8:15 that's because you only held them down a little bit, they go faster if you hold it down all the way.
Which makes this a nice feature to easily open them only a little bit when necessary.
Great video as always, Tish! Congrats as well on hitting 5k subscribers! I really like the XC40, it is a really good looking car, especially in Denim Blue, as well as Bursting Blue. In the US, our Recharge model is a 402hp EV. However, it costs an extra $20k over the standard XC40. I love the little details like the Swedish flag on the seats and the crystal gear selector. And that 660 watt Harman/Kardon sound system seriously kicks! If I were to get an XC40, I'd go for the T5 R-Design AWD. Keep up the great work!
For me on bumpy Ukrainian roads it will be a T5 petrol model. And this will be my fifth Volvo, hope it won't disappoint me. Thanks for the great review Natisha.

Just ordered a Xc40 phev inscription pro with roof in denim blue with blonde leather. Our kids are grown up and we are careful so shouldn’t be an issue. Have just had 3 yrs in a BMW 225xe and the xc40 is more SUV and seems bigger inside and out and much more luxurious.We been getting over 70mpg combined throughout the 3 years in the beemer plugging it in after every journey we are using electric only a lot only doing journeys of less than 25 miles usually.My only gripe is why the absolute top of the range car classes blind spot detection as a paid option when it’s standard in most other cars in the class !

Volvo, which many buy for safety, know they can squeeze more money out of customers for a safety function like blind spot detection. Fair play to them. Nice car though, enjoy!

Interesting. £50 for teh additional cable. when I bought my Recharge Volvo last year the stealer wanted £300 for the same cable.

Hello. great review i really like it !!! Please one question: Peugeot 3008 or this Volvo? of course both PHEV. Most of the time 20-25mile commute but also some long trips to ski (if it will be any ski season soon....)
That’s a really tough one, my heart says the Volvo straight away just because it’s a lot more comfortable and classic however, the 3008 is a little bit more flashy and technology orientated, i’m also not a huge fan of the external styling but that is all personal preference.
The Volvo did however become quite noisy once it had run out of electric, so climbing mountains that could become quite annoying. However, this is how a lot of plug in hybrids behave. I would definitely suggest trying out both cars once they have run out of electric to test how the engine behaves.

Nothing wrong with the colour at all - I just personally like bright cars ☺️
The BMW X1 PHEV has xDrive 4WD and the Jaguar E-Pace P300e has AWD, but Volvo doesn’t have a 4WD version of the PHEV XC40.
I prefer the Jaguar, cos it does 0-100 in 6.5 seconds, despite the 3-cylinder and has AWD.
That’s true, I do love a Jaguar 🐆 that would probably be my weapon of choice too! Not so fussed about the BMW or the AWD but that’s just for my day-to-day driving. Seems silly not to have it as an option, even if it was even more pricey!
Couldn’t understand her claim that this car is not suitable for long journeys but best used for popping to the shops. A small hatchback or mini is best used for “popping to the shops” not a SUV even if a lot of women think SUV’s are only designed for the school run! The XC40 can tow a braked trailer with a gross weight of 1800kg, so a vehicle designed for more than nipping to the local shop!
Specifically the plug in hybrid because you only get the benefit of the power and range in electric. Without electric it becomes gutless and drops below 30mpg. You would want the diesel or even non hybrid for longer journeys.
Hi Kevin ! I had to also chuckle at that statement also. Obviously Toyota seemed to have mastered the hybrid delivery power train as especially the RAV4 Prime. Shear horsepower and economy.
But the Volvo achieving 30mpg is still ok.
The reviewer made it sounds as though the vehicle was not up to scratch.
Volvo by and large is known for it safety features.

@@AutoSocialUK , it depends if you regularly do long journeys for work or occasional long journeys for holidays which can be planned well in advance to make use of rest stops for recharging. Horses for courses, but I think it is silly to suggest SUV’s are suitable for popping to the shops and the often inadequate parking spaces for larger cars , maybe Chelsea tractors are appropriate for the ‘fairer sex’ , but I will stick with my SUV for it’s intended design use.

11:45 Definitely disagree, You immediately notice that you're on B instead of D. It gives you a nice defensive way of driving about.
I like it a lot better than a harsh one pedal driving way, as those do not flow with the rest of the traffic (as most don't have that).
Also, start breaking earlier? Then you're just breaking way too late and should coast your car a lot more (in B mode).

I’m want to ditch my AMGC43 for a PHEV SUV and the XC40 is top of my list. You video is really informative and didn’t realise how big the XC40, in fact it’s not much shorter than my AMG C43 and that’s a big car. My only issue (and I’m not sure why) is can I live with a FWD SUV???

They've recently launched a new model T4 Inscription Expression Recharge for £37,345 so even with a few options this can still escape the additional VED car tax of £1675 over five years for vehicles costing more than £40k.

These start at £41,000 here in Oz. Can't get the full EV here in Oz because not burning dissolved dinosaur guts goes against 'Stralyas give everyone cancer policy.

I’m yet to try the full EV but I’m still not converted over to fully electric! ⚡️ between Belgium and China by the looks of things but I can’t find a straight answer. Especially when I comes to the electric model!

I think the fully electric ones are made in China.
It’s like the BMW X3. The diesel, petrol and PHEV versions are made in the United States, but the iX3 is made in China.

The DS9 (which will be a French luxury vehicle) will be PHEV only. It will be made in Shenzhen China, so not France like the 508 PHEV.
phevs are not suitable for those who have no home charging, in fact the opposite is true. their performance once the battery is depleted is terrible. ideally you should charge it whenever you can and make the most of battery power only using the engine for fast roads or longer journeys. having less than 30 miles ev range isnt ideal either and should be more for this sort of money.
Couldn’t agree more. Hopefully we get some really practical 100mile PHEVs soon! I guess however they just become too heavy
@@AutoSocialUK I just ordered the mg phev. Might be worth reviewing. Luxurious but affordable and 35 to 45 mile ev range depending on conditions. Starts at around 30k

For example 210% tax. Which is called OTV. And olsa KDV. And also OTV's KDV. You can own Volvo XC40 £29,632.50 but we can buy it 941.410 TRY. Imagine that you buy this car £941.410 in UK. T4 variant definitely good alternative to a Tesla or Kia eNiro. Or RAV4 Hybrid secondhand. So it'll be down to personal taste. If can make it work in EV mode it's almost perfect. Great review Tish. What's next vehicle being lent?!
