Thank you, everyone that made this first year of House of History an incredible, informative and fun year! I'm looking forward to another great year with all of you!
@@HoH Yes, I'm definitely glad we met too. Didn't expect to meet so many great people through my channel. Looking forward to this next year too - it promises to be great!
I personally think the Russian civil war as a whole is very over looked. Also great video congratulations on your one year anniversary! I’m a new comer. Your channel looks great I will be sure to watch your future videos.
Welcome! I completely agree about the Russian civil war. I am planning on writing an in-depth documentary series about that (similar to the End of Empire: China's last emperor playlist) once I am done with my next big project!
Bro if youtube would stop demonitizing videos a channel like yours with your quality and regularity of putting out videos you could grow to half a million subscribers easily within a year
A very compelling presentation! I have to add though, that the photograph is of Latvian riflemen, not the Czechoslovakian legionaries. They are quite an interesting topic by themselves. The Latvian riflemen many times prevented the complete collapse of the newly made Soviet state by crushing rebellions and engaging the White army in various ocasions. One of their officers, Jukums Vacietis, was the first chief of staff of the red army. The riflemen were the favourites of Lenin. The causes the lead to their turn to bolshevism is also a interesting subject (originally they were an ethinc military formation of the Tsar's army). I think this might be a nice idea for a video someday ;)
Congratulations on your one year anniversary, hopefully many more to come. What a great story on the Czechoslovak Legion. Looking forward to next week's story, Thank you for all you do.
I have a complete Senior Sergeant Czeske Legion uniform from a Veteran that took part in this crazy Campaign to include the ultra rare Kepi and his awards.
Great Story, well explained, thank you, these legions and Masaryk are the reason, I can call myself Czech now...I wish HBO would do mini series about these legions "Band of Czechoslovak Brothers", they literally called each other "brother"
Absolutely LOVE this idea... It would be breathtaking for us history nerds to ride the Trans-Siberian Railway with them, grab the gold store$ & boat back home!! Whatta Rush. Too bad the Bolshevik Stalinists caught up with em in 1948. "Thank you, Potsdam..." : (...
A passion for the material I suppose. If it wasn't for this channel I would have read about it regardless, so two birds with one stone. I satisfy my curiosity whilst doing something creative with it at the same time.
Happy First BD!! Excellent episode, wading deftly into & out of the Swamp that was the Red-White Russian "civil war" (aka "Power struggle"). If the Whites had been more unified, and without the egotistic plague of Kolchek, world history might well have turned out far better. In 1965, I attended a college assembly where Alexander Kerensky spoke about his life & experiences. Wish I'd known this much about Russian history at that point! Glad you're enjoying doing this excellent Channel. You're a great presenter, not only knowledgeable but also integrating the various interesting branches of the Anglo-American/European imperial history Tree into a meaningful whole... Compliments to the Chef!! Great Food-for-Thought Banquet!!!
Czechoslovakia was a new state, but the statehood of the Czech lands is a thousand years old and existed even within Austria-Hungary - the problem was that the Czech lands were several times richer than the rest of the monarchy and they did not want to continue to support Austria-Vienna, which wiped its ass with them. In addition, Austria became fully dependent on Germany at the end of the war, and the Germans publicly announced that they would definitively solve the Czech question after the war, so there was nothing to wait for.
Do an episode on the USA Army's Polor Bear Legion. Very interesting, there is a documentary called "Night of the Never Ending Dawn. Check it out, good stuff.
The movement to create a Czech and Slovak nation and declare their independence from the Austro- Hungarian Empire began in Pennsylvania USA. It was called the Pittsburgh Agreement. In late May 1918, a Czech politician and professor named Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk came to Pittsburgh. He was advocating independence for the Czech and Slovak peoples in war-ravaged eastern Europe. Western Pennsylvania treated him like a hero. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported, “Thousands of Czecho-Slovaks of Pittsburgh and vicinity, forming in long lines and headed by several bands, marched through the streets of downtown Pittsburgh in a pageant of loyalty and as a welcome to the city.” The enthusiasm was well-placed. By the end of Masaryk’s visit, the foundation for a new country would be formed. www.pittsburghmagazine.com/czechoslovakia-was-forged-in-pittsburgh/
And after WW2 began, many came to Pennsylvania to start new lives. Both my maternal grandmother and grandfather's families emigrated to Central PA, started small homesteads, and both my grandfathers became coal miners. So many came, they got their own local slur; "hunky" is still used to refer to people of Czechoslovak (and Hungarian I believe) descent who live in what used to be coal mining areas.
Good video, my grandpa was a legionare who returned via Vladivostok in 1920. I read his war diary, this video matches well with his account. And I have learned some new things. As far Czechoslovakia - it was a big mistake to create such a small/weak country in the middle of Europe. The result has been decades of misery for its people, even today Czechia and Slovakia are poor corrupt countries, way behind Western Europe with little hope for improvement. The best people have been systematically killed or driven to exile for over 105 years now.
please don´t share your views maybe not because it sickens other people, but at least for your grandpa. he doesn´t deserve it after all what he´d been through

Another great one. Looking forward, as always, for more videos from you.
Congrats bro!
Jan and Pavel: "How do we get home"?
"Let's March east to Vladivostok "! Lol!

This was an amazing story, I did not realize how ignorant I was of the history of the Czech people

I love your videos (accidentally stumbled on it) will.you do a video on the Arpard line.

Congratulations !!!
Let's make Czechoslovakia big again. Let's join Slovakia, Subcarpathian Russia and the Trans-Siberian Railway.
We need Masaryk back for just a decade or two. There's even a Russian conflict going on, the timing is perfect.
Happy 2nd year anniver
Do you mind me asking where you're from? I'm really into linguistics/phonology but I can't figure out your accent! It's beautiful.
Hey Cammie, thanks for the compliment! I am Dutch, but attempt to not make it too obvious with my accent. 😉
@@HoH well it's lovely!! Accents are one of the things that keeps life interesting. Hahaha!!
it is amazing how they were able to build this enormous force within the middle of a war and empire? You think that would be video worthy?

Za takovéhle názory by si nad tebou tvůj děda-legionář leda tak odplivl.
