I really wanted this grinder but I ended up buying a DF64 straight from the factory in China, it ended up being half the price and I'm very happy with it.
Hey there, at 3:48 you mention that if the dial know is in the way, we should "unscrew it", however you do not provide a visual for that. I own the Eureka Mignon Zero and recently got to cleaning it, however, I had a lot of difficulty finding a resource on how to remove the dial knob, as it was in the way of the screw. Do you have any resources on how to remove the dial knob, or do you maybe plan to make a video about it? Thanks in advance for your help. Great videos! Best,
Just when I thought it was safe to come in from the cold and finally add an Eureka Mignon Oro, the waters are again muddied. This one looks intriguing.
I have the same issu with the bottomless portafitler... it slides out with the vibration... so maybe it is the rubber, when it gets "dirty" with coffee then it dries and doesnt create enough traction to keep the bottomles flat portafilter in place... so I came with a workaround... I put an additional piece of rubber, with a wider area that helps the portafilter to stay in place.
@@karan5194 bottom holder area, just cut a piece of hard rubber in a square and place it on top of the rubber U. so when you need to use the bottomless portafilter, just place the square first before turning on the machine.
Hi Thomas! Thank you for your excellent videos and reviews, I Really do enjoy them. Do you know if there will come a Libra in the Oro line? I have an EM XL, 65 mm burrs and love the quality and design of the Oro line. I'm don't know if this Libra 55 mm Specialita will match my XL (except all the good features in your video). But I hope Eureka will do the Libra in the Oro line. What do you know, and think? Best regards - Tibor from Gothenburg, Sweden
Thirded. I have had the Mignon Brew Pro for a while now but just picked up a Robot recently and I'm starting to keep an eye out for the right grinder to pair with it.
I got to play with the Libra last month and when comparing with my Sette 270Wi I did like the build quality, sound and portafilter height adjustment. I wasn't impressed by its speed, clumps, messiness (without the funnel), grind adjustment (difficult to change to a different setting and return), FE errors, and popcorning when single dosing. If I had to choose, I'd get the 270Wi. With that said, I'm looking to add a flat burr grinder this year and the Libra is still a candidate. A key point in this decision is one thing I didn't get to test - suitability for pourover. The Sette is really poor, at least with the stock burrs. Is the Libra a good grinder for pourover?
Dear OB, thank you for your feedback 😊 If you allow us, we would like to clarify some of the points you raised. First of all, mess: basing on our lab studies, we suggest, for more than 8 g per single dose and 15 g per double dose, to use of the Mignon Libra Dosing funnel, which is included in the Mignon box. It is a non-mandatory tool, but we suggest, should you grind the above, to use it. As far as the FH signalling is concerned, it is a system that was created with the aim of guaranteeing maximum quality in the grinding process: our tare is in fact very sensitive, and this is a plus in terms of precision. At the same time, however, to preserve excellent results, we decided to introduce a system that prevents any possible damage to the system and its precision. We have however released a video on our channel in which we explain how to use the coffee grinder correctly: ua-cam.com/video/LvQJc4C8e50/v-deo.html This model of Mignon Libra is designed for Espresso grinding, as the fork is specially designed for the filter holder. In any case... stay tuned 🤫
@@Nutle159 Dear 😁, thank you for the question , it depends on the dealer some prefer to include the Dosing funnel with the Mignon Libra. In other cases, the Dosing funnel is sold separately as an accessory with a dedicated accessory box.
I was thinking of the 270wi too but I ended up getting a killer deal on mignon specialita. A store return for $325 shipped to my door. Thanks Seattle coffee gear i love it,seems like extremely good quality. I have no regrets for the price. I had a breville smart grinder and I replaced the main gear 2 times in 2 years. I was very concerned about the build quality of the 270wi,do you believe it has build quality as the eureka? The breville smart grinder was definitely a mistake and would encourage anyone who drinks 2 espressos a day to avoid it at all costs. I had over $300 and plenty of hours of my time in it in the past 2 years and I finally threw it away.
Hi Thomas, really eager to see Part 2 of the Libra review however, are you saying that the Libra GBW dosing procedure is second to that of grinding by Volume (as per your recent video)?? Any thoughts on the Eureka Magnifico & Eureka Zero? Also a comparison review of the soon to be released Fellow Opus conical burr grinder would be very much appreciated and lastly, at the risk of being asked to leave your community, a review of the Ascaso Steel Duo PID latest upgraded steam model would be awesome. I've learnt sooo much from your videos especially about your guidance with grinders. Thankyou & Cheers.
Very useful video thank you. I wonder if the Libra's base enclosure is made out of plastic or cast aluminum? Those broken parts within the unit are certainly of concern, especially the black ones. The white broken plastic screw heads seem to be sheared off by the plate holding the bottom PCA, either due to poor process, material, vibration etc. But the black broken parts could be more serious, especially if it is from the base. Looks like a reliability issue. Maybe because this is still an early production unit. I was just planning to order a Specialita over the Libra because of the prettier product dimensional proportions, but after watching this video I have concerns about Specialita's quality too.
Dear semipro33, as Thomas said in his video, transport may probably have caused those parts to break. These are very rare conditions, but unfortunately they can happen, regardless of the model of coffee grinder. In case it does happen, we at Eureka will be ready to support you, together with our dealers, to solve it. We are always available to support you, and provide you with the best possible customer service 🥰🥰
It seems you have a unit from a newer batch(they have the Libra inscription) I wondering if it has the same firmware version 3.1. and also any chance in the next video you can explain what got broken? thank you :) PS I absolutely love your videos!
Can you please check how much active retention there really is? Is ist really only the couple crumbles? Or did you do an in depth clean. thanks in advance
There will always be grinders with bigger burrs and less retention, but I love my Specialita. I'm currently looking to replace my secondary grinder (or rather, making my Specialita the secondary) and two minutes into this video I already decided the Libra would be perfect.
Have a libra and I do share your conclusions about the ECM bottomless portafilter. It kind of fits but gives a lot of errors (with the same eureka funnel as yours). What I do not like is that you must recalibrate the grinder each time you change the portafilter. I wish you couls save settings into memory. I want my lungos with a double spout to avoid the mess but I use bottomless for espressos ... Yous videos are excellent, I can't wait to see the next one, thank you !
Dear Stéphane, our tare system allows automatic, real-time calibration of the filter holder that is placed on the fork. No manual calibration is needed! All you have to do is grind and enjoy your coffee, the Mignon Libra will recognise the filter holder and grind the selected grams accordingly 😉
@@eurekagrinders9555 could you please then update the user manual ? It is nowhere explained. Another issue I have is plenty of FE errors I have sometimes to position the holder a couple of times to get it work. Lookinf forwart to your update on this.
I find it rather funny you’re this enthusiastic about this grind by weight grinder, while having a video on “grind by volume, not by weight”. I get that it’s for repeatability but have personally not found the need for weighing as dosing by volume is what i’ve always done. It’s by far the easiest way of getting clean knock-out pucks.
Why think of it as a binary choice? Establish the right dose by volume; then weigh for convenient and precise repeatability. Like I said in the other video.
@@wiredgourmet thanks for your reply, good way to think of it, was just curious how you though of it. Also wanted to thank you for the great content! I had been looking for an upgrade to a compak k3 grinder for a while and largely based on tour review video recently purchased a Fiorenzato Allground, which i’m loving using everyday.
My take is that this is a great grinder in combination with the ECM Elektronika for an office environment. But for home use, I‘d rather go with the DF64, single dose my beans and invest the spare money into a burr set of choice.
Of course tjere is a penalty when placing on the left, as this blocks the on/off switch, which is needed also to reset this crap due to constant FH errors
