    Thank you for this video! I was diagnosed with MS while I was on the Atkins diet (June 2015) and then happened to find a Dr. McDougall video on the deleterious relationship between MS and saturated fat consumption (April 2016). After watching this video, I switched to a low fat starch based (vegan) diet. On this diet, I have lost weight (10 lbs), and resolved 99.9% of my MS symptoms. Although I had limited mobility before, now I can walk, jog, run, ride my bike and dance for hours. OMG!!! I can dance again!!! Which means my coordination and motor skills are functioning well. I used to have insomnia and now I sleep all night and feel refreshed in the morning. I feel like I've been reborn.Thank you so much for spreading the truth during a time where the Atkins and HFLC movement is gaining momentum. We have become afraid of the foods (starches) that give us health and vitality. Again, thanks a million and a million thanks!!!!!!

    I'm a 12 year old vegan (been vegan since I was 10) and I got two things to say.
    1) It drives me crazy when I see what the food pyramid at cooking class in school! Meat, Dairy and eggs not only should they not be in the pyramid at all they definetly shouldn't be above fruit and starches. Thank god the vegetables are above them though.
    2) I turned vegan all by myself and luckerly because of me my family no longer eats meat, however no matter how hard I try, they still eat dairy and particulary eggs!
    I've showed them webinars and speechers by Dr. McDougall and Dr. Micheal Greger in many of which saying how bad eggs and dairy is. I also show them cowspiracy and other things like that, but they're so stubborn...
    Anyone with any ideas I would love to hear them.

    • @AlicePorter
      @AlicePorter 8 років тому +18

      Wow, that's amazing that you've single-handedly become vegan at such a young age, what an inspiration you are! You could try cooking them some vegan meals and show them how delicious and satisfying vegan meals are, if the case is that they just don't think they have the will power to go vegan. If they don't want to go vegan because they don't think it's best for their health, then there's not much you can do apart from try and educate them through the videos you are showing them and the information you give them. It takes time for people to make the change though; I wanted to go vegan for months and months before I completely transitioned from vegetarian to fully vegan and hopefully, one day it will just click with them like it did with me that it is simple to do so! Both my mum and sister are vegetarian but not vegan and I mostly go about trying to help them convert to veganism by encouraging them to eat the vegan alternatives I have in the house, slipping in facts about how great being vegan is into conversation, and cooking them delicious vegan meals that they then often recreate themselves. Hope this helps :)

      Alex Hughes I'm in a similar situation, man! I'm 19 and I've gotten my parents to give up meat, but not the eggs and dairy. It's so frustrating. My mom is still so afraid of sugar, and is still so obsessed with protein. She'll eat olive oil without concern, but put a teaspoon of sugar in her tea and she'll be afraid she'll get fat. So backwards, mom! But at least she'll eat starches now without fear.

    • @successandlifestyle
      @successandlifestyle 6 років тому +4

      I'm 51, and let me tell you, the fear of starches, sugar is years and years of brainwashing. In conjunction protein/dairy = health bones. It's a crime. Give them time to change their beliefs - the more you push, the more they will hang onto their old beliefs.

    Everything he is saying makes sense by my long old ancestors. Coming from a 3rd class poor country El Salvador where chicken, Beef, pork, was serve only on special occasions or people with more money. We grow up on beans, fresh corn tortillas. Fruits and vegetables, and no body die from starvation. I basically saw they were much more very healthy generations after generations. Than my generation now days I am going to learn and begin my journey with
    Dr McDougall books. Thanks for your hard work!

    Dr. McDougal, I wish you could come speak at my college. my current nutrition class is full of arguments that support the standard American diet. Every time I speak up about being a starch based vegan, I get shot down and basically laughed at. I have requested that one of your videos be shown in class so we can learn about real nutrition! Not to mention, the professor isn't even a Nutrition professor at all :( thank you for all the work you've done. I'm currently doing a potato diet, with all of my calories coming from potatoes and non starchy veggies. This is day 8 for me and I feel amazing. You're a true inspiration!

      +Frootaholic Chef Ⓥ Just consider the source of your teacher and your schools funding. You will have your answer why they push back against planet based food. If the student are the ones rejecting this they are brainwashed sheep. Its not their fault.

    • @bonsummers2657
      @bonsummers2657 8 років тому

      +Frootaholic Chef Ⓥ Problematic foods for me are:
      starches, homogenized milk (but I'll consume them in some situations, more so some starches on that matter)
      Great, vital foods, for me:
      some cheese, non-homogenized milk, meat(i.e. animal flesh in general), eggs (all the animal foods quality grown of course, preferably), fruits, greens, green veggies, non-refined-salt, non-filtered beer (such as sierra nevada hefeweizen/kellerweis especially),.. and sundry other bits of things, such as seeds/nuts/grains on occasion (rice mochi(a puffed up oven-baked food done at home) is great on occasion as desired). The drink called Joon/Jun, is way better than kombucha. Kombucha is relatively 'dank' in character, Joon is sprightly fresh,… way more lively and invigorating.
      As best I can tell from my own experience, lots of disease(and 'colds') is due to starch and low quality animal products, and homogenized milk.
      Arthritis, the accretion of gunk at joints, is due to starch consumption or low quality animal products, in the sense of how the animals are raised, what the animals are fed. Accumulations of gunk in the lymph system is largely due to starch consumption,… or low quality animal products, in the sense of how the animals are raised, what the animals are fed. But of course, the problem is dependent on the quantity consumed and how your body responds, - how well or not well your body processes the food substance.
      And my experience on all this has been extensive since 1984.
      And yes, people can succeed, apparently, on different dietary modes, variable per person,… whether throughout their life or with prudent changes depending on life/age/lifestyle changes, which their body will give indications as to what needs to be consumed in order for best reasonable health and vitality and non-encumbrance to be maintained.
      But, humans are ingenuous, and, we modify our environment to our advantage,…. and clearly, I find, my body finds, bovine milk, intended for infant bovines, is very healthy for me,…. my body thrives on it, as a part of my dietary. Yes, I could still live without if need be, but I find a thrive best with it. And to be clear again, that is non-homogenized milk, whether pasteurized or raw. Pasteurization can be good.
      I drink both pasteurized and raw, depending on what I sense for a given as to what I feel I prefer at a given time. There are differences with different sources, so notice which source isn't working so well (for example I associate getting a cold with one source(a source from Humboldt Co.) and I don't with other sources/brands of milk, such as Strauss, Caravale, and Benoit).
      Btw, just fruits and vegetables is vastly insufficient for sustainable health and body integrity, except for rare individuals, if true. I know this very well from personal experience and that of others.

    • @nisehammeken8546
      @nisehammeken8546 8 років тому +5

      just fruits and vegetables is insufficient. But how about fruists, vegetables, seeds and legumes??

    • @fender1000100
      @fender1000100 7 років тому +1

      Nise Hammeken
      The seeds have too much fat. And the legumes have too much protein. And not enough fibre
      The best thing to do is add a legume to a starch in a 2 to one ratio. Then you have perfection.
      I for example always cook 100 grams of brown rice together with 50 grams of mung beans. Add in some salt and chopped garlic. Cook for 40 minutes. Strain and mix in some mustard. Gorgeous.
      Top it with a curry sauce with chopped spinach and you have a very tasty super nutritious meal.
      And theres nothing better for losing weight than BROWN RICE. Its superior to white rice and potatoes for that.

Truth is if more of us followed your guidance we wouldn't need the number of doctors or hospitals that we currently have. God bless, wish I had the opportunity to know you in person. Thank you.

    I am a low converter of ALA to EPA due to a SNP on FADS2 rs 1535. My conversion rate is 29% lower than if I had no SNP at that location. Still love you Dr. McDougal and eat starch based like you say to. Thanks for bucking the mainstream all these years.

    How long does it take for the fat to drain from your cells after becoming a starch / vegan diet eater where we don’t feel our blood sugar spiking ? I thought it was 4-7 days, but wasn’t quite sure. By this I mean a virtually zero fat starch based diet with some veggies and fruit. Thank you !!

Thank you for all the knowledge, I try to spread the word, but I don't seem to have much luck here in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada😔 I seem to be having troubles digesting fats and proteins, and want to get my omega 3's in. Any suggestions? Please tell Mary how much I love you both. Your children are very lucky to have such amazing parents💕

    The local regular costco usually has only bags of pinto beans and mayocoba beans. The costco business center has 25 lb bags of black beans, red kidney beans, garbanzo and lentils. They boil fast in less than 30 minutes if soaked overnight.
