I have a theory. Many games that have endings upon endings, require a ton of playthroughs to get everything and are just all around grindy are made for people with no budget. I use to greatly love those kinds of games back when I had to wait for a birthday for a new game. Once I got my own income, I wasn't forced to wait so I didn't need something that would last and my tastes changed. Maybe that is just my experience but it seems to work out it my head.

Dragon Age: Inquisition. In my youth I was naive in thinking that achievements was a way to gauge how much of the experience you witnessed. What I didn't understand was the vast amount of padding I had to suffer through. One of the few games I just put down and never finished and sadly I am not in the slightest hyped for the sequel.

It's a shame because IMO the actual "main" content for Inquisition is some of the best Bioware has put out. 90% of the side content being fetch quests and repeatable gathering timesinks was such a dumb decision. Holding out hope that the MMO-ification in Dreadwolf will be nonexistant. They're up against the wall rn after Anthem and ME's recent flops..

I remember platinuming all the Arkham series on the PS3. It was exhausting and mind numbing by the end and I never try to do it ever again. Some games are fun enough to naturally complete others are just not worth wasting the time, especially when there are no incentives. That being said, kudos to you for making 100% your stand out feature as youtuber, I cannot imagine how exhausting it can get if its a game you are not really enjoying but have to for the sake of your content.

    • @danieledstrom5777

I disagree, if devs are gonna litter the map with collectibles then Arkham is the way to do it. Lots of the collectibles in those games (maybe not the first one) requires you to interact with the world in some way, usually by solving some small puzzle. That is a massive improvement over the lame Ubisoft approach of just "go there and pick it up" x100.

Trying to complete every single objective usually leads to a burnout for me, and I drop the game halfway through. The only recent game I had a lot of fun 100%'ing was Elden Ring.

I think triangle strategy is best played with one playthrough where you make your own decisions, and then one route where you follow a guide for the golden path. Then, just look up the other endings. I did that, and it came out to 105 hours. I think that's the optimal amount of content to get the full experience without getting too burnt out. Becaise your second playthrough keeps all the stats and levels, and then you can finally hit higher levels for some truly powerful abilities that weren't available first playthrough. It's a truly phenomenal game.

@rickpani9658 my favorite way to grind was with the exp accessory. It made it so you got at least 1 exp instead of zero on missions too low level. And then at least one on every kudo point earned. So equip it to someone and then just have fun being a God on the battle field for a few fights. That was enough to get some levels, and then do it again with a different charqcter.

My rule of thumb is to NEVER 100% a game, unless the game truly earns it, for instance, I have NEVER in my life 100% completed a GTA game, despite replaying them so many times I actually know them from memory.
Collectibles and side content are there only for those who truly want to dedicate themselves to it, it's optional, this is why so many get burned out or tired of big open world games or very long games, they're convinced they gotta do everything to make their purchase worth it, when in reality they really don't have to.

    • @toptiertech7291
      @toptiertech7291 Рік тому

Well if you dont do the extra boring time killer stuff then you don’t get your moneys worth. For example. Spider-Man Miles Morales came out at $49.99. On normal I beat the main story in a little under 8 hours. That’s not worth $50. At all. But I shouldn’t have to deliver pizzas or collect 200 of something to get a 10-15 hour story. Especially if there’s no multiplayer or DLC

    • @Roler42
      @Roler42 Рік тому +1

@@toptiertech7291 Then don't deliver pizzas, do the story, fight some crime, then when you're ready to wrap up move on to something else, you get even more mileage out of games like that by replaying them.
If I can make it to the credits while having a fun time and only doing some side content if I felt like it, then I got my money's worth and more.
Like I said with my GTA example, I have played those games past the point of knowing them from memory because that's how fun they are even if I ignore all the worthless filler content.

The process of people doing 100% is interesting to me. I would love to see you do a video about games where the process of going for 100% improved the game experience for you. For me, there's probably fewer than ten games I've played where that was true, broken into a couple of categories. 1) Strategy games where the other achievements forced me to try different play styles. 2) Narrative RPGs/visual novels where all the paths/routes only present a fraction of the story and it doesn't come together until playing all of them.

If you play it normally and only after finishing it you try to 100% it, you'll get bored quickly since the fun stuff will be mostly over. Taking breaks from the main story or even sidequests to get some of the boring stuff out of whe way makes the end game clean up much easier on the player.

The already convoluted map filled with gank squads are even more frustrating cuz of the additional mobs that come with starting NG+ and NG++. Yeah, it's a game I really won't recommend 100 percenting even if people have played and 100 percented other Souls-like games before. 100% DS2: SotFS is just scarring experience.

It sounds like "obsessive compulsive disease" (OCD) where people feel compelled to do something even though they don't really enjoy it.
DL2 just wasn't that good. DL1 wasn't perfect but, the combination of combat and exploration kept it interesting. I didn't even finish DL2 much less 100% it. My problem is I cant not 100%... I can miss something, yes, but if I see a quest I have to do it, I have to go to every corner of the map, I have to speak with everyone... This is why I like when games got some non linear elements at least like lets say Mass Effect or W3, what I mean is you can play very different Shepard or Geralt, so there is a room for second play, not to mention bigger choices in ME and Witcher games ofc, W2 for example had almost 30% of the game hidden behind a choice :)
Games like Midnight Suns you need to play 100% or as much as possible, this game is very linear story experience, I spent 76 hours in it, did almost everything, all friendships, all cards, 90% achievements. I liked it but its got 0 reason to play so called NG+, I spoke with everyone already, I know full story and side stories, if I want simply fights I can load my after-ending save game and just fight with all characters and all cards available. A bit sad really, usually Firaxis makes games in which you can play hundreds of hours... like Xcom, it also got linear story, but much more replayability, not even talking about Civilization... its thousands of hours. But why not I guess, Suns are simply good linear story card game, I just hope we will see Xcom 3 or Civ 7 soon, this year perhaps.

I recently 100% Sunset Overdrive and it's a really fun time but around the 75% mark I was so burnt out because there's just so many goddamn collectibles. Roughly 600 from what I can remember. So I spent 5-10 hours doing menial tasks and busy work not having a single drop of fun.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, I think Spider Man for PS4 was fun to 100%. It's still a collectathon, but traversal is such a joy, that I found myself in out of the way places where collectables were anyway.

I'd like to say that I don't agree with you on Marvel Midnight Suns.
Not because the friendship simulator part didn't suck for me, it did, but because after playing through it once you can start a new game+ to do the 100%.
In a new game+ you keep the friendship levels from your previous game so it is way less annoying.

Tried to plat dying light 2 but the game can bug out so much and stop you getting collectibles and bases to count as achieved. Some of the fixes for these bugs don't always work and you got to find a guide following it just to make sure the bug doesn't happen on a new game. even that has a chance to not work.
Nothing worse then getting into the mood of grinding out collectibles to find out it can bug.
Big horror fan so I 100% Ghostwire hoping there was a big surprise. KK a real one, wished there was more stuff to do around his group.

I platinum hunt and I can promise that 100 percenting a lot of games ruins the experience when you should have set them down. Dying light 2 is definitely one of them and imagine putting 130 hours doing every side mission because collectibles are missables and saving all you upgrades on health and stamina till you can max one stat fully so you can save scum to do the other and the. 50 hours in finally get to play with health and stamina. Leaving your game on for 36hrs over 4 different nights to have your character run in circles because you have to run an excessive distance and only run because it only counts that movement to get to 98 percent of trophies just to have a pretty basic trophy glitch and waiting and checking every update to run these trials again for the true night runner trophy to find out they say it's fixed and it's not. Joining a group on Reddit to try and fix it just to wait again for techland to fix it. Besides that it wasnt bad I was enjoying it the first even 70 hours

You can add XBC3 into this list, funnily enough. By the nature of the story and how things go, most of the sidequests are somewhere between completely pointless to largely a waste of time. You spend hours and hours setting up relationships and systems/distributions that just straight up become irrelevant due to the plot.
When you see where the story’s going it becomes clear not to invest yourself in this stuff.

While the gameplay is fun and the story is great, to playthrough 4 times for all the characters and endings is just too much.

Dying light 2 is such a tragedy. I played at launch and while the base game is okay, I felt it didn’t quite live up to its hype. And it certainly toned things down so much at night time that it’s lost all of its sense of danger that DL1 had at night.

Mostly for the reason of getting each weapon to S rank as it literally does nothing for the stats of the weapon or the character, it’s strictly for the trophy/achievement and takes ages to grind.

Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen is a really fun game with most of the trophies being things you'll naturally do over the course of a play through. I did get the platinum for Bloodborne last month actually. I finally decided to do the chalice dungeons and fight that one boss. Pretty good boss fight, would recommend. Nioh is another of my favorites games. Overall was very fun to platinum, but a couple of the hidden trophies were annoying by not being things you naturally do. Currently working up the courage to play Dead Space 1 and 2 on the highest difficulty for those trophies, and also try to platinum a Dark Souls game.

Call me crazy, but I absolutely loved getting 100% ghostwire tokyo. But then again I love Tokyo so I might be super biased. my don't 100 percent would be The Witcher 3 ( my 2nd all time favourite game) , sone trophies were very stupid, ac Valhalla, kingdoms of amalu re reckoning and by far , nr 1 shadow of mordor, the most frustrating platinum I've ever done. This is coming from someone who platinumed all from software games on every platform I own, ps3,4,5 and PC ( also although from soft were quite hard, none were really frustrating)
