Keep in mind the footage in today’s video was recorded capturing the various graphics modes that’s why the framerate is a little all over the place. If you choose performance it’s a fairly solid 60fps!

@@MorrisseyMuse They're not completely wrong companies do use hype culture to get a lot of people to buy their game even if it comes out in a really buggy unfinished state Cyberpunk being the most obvious recent example.
Hype isn't inherently tied to bad business practices like that but they do play a big part and it's a pretty shitty part of the gaming community at large since it lets these companies just get away with releasing unfinished games or on the other end of the coin people will hype up a game and it won't live up to their expectations which then kills off a perfectly fine game that just had monumental expectations behind it IMO hype culture is one of the worst parts of the gaming community.

Played the whole game from start to finish on hard (did most side content, too) and I can say that it's pretty average, gameplay-wise.
It looks great, the voice acting (in Japanese) is great, the story is okay (a little barebones and the pacing is weird), but the gameplay is just... fine. It gets really repetitive and boring as you close into that halfway mark, since you really only have 3 weapons (and a bow/a few types of ofuda). So while the sights are fantastic (I've heard it's a pretty accurate representation of Shibuya), virtual tourism in an empty ("") city can only go so far.

I’m not even finished with the main story, but this game is already on my “Sleeper Hits” list of 2022. I’m 30+ hours into it, and I’m not even done Chapter 4. Just hunting for the tanuki, Jizo statues, and doing all the side quests has held my interest. The combat is fun, but does get old fast. I think it’s a shame some of the quests are so same feeling, but I think it is still fun. The characters are pretty cool, Akito and KK give me life. The enemies are cool, reading about Japan is delightful, and the game feels sort of calming to just walk around and fighting demons. While I can understand this game getting stale, I’m still having my fun with it. I hope this game gets the recognition it deserves, just like Evil Within.

I was in on this game 200 percent when I got it recently, and it's been damn good times getting thru it. The shortcomings are vastly outdone by the .... longcomings of its qualities, from the personality to the beats and battle. Finding that some wayward tanuki had hunkered down out in the streets when the Vanishing went down had me combing those streets like a fungus looking for them all, and the storied details all over the place were just so much fun to find; the shantyhomes here and there, along with that community newsletter about getting those poor folks some help instead of evicting them-- the Visitors seemingly mimicking former life motions. That one kappa down in the sewer that had more or less created a memory-haven made my heart stop for a moment, it was _beautiful._
I'd hope for this teams' continued success and yeah, ANOTHER game with this amount of extra touches and realism would be an amazing gift. I took a ton of screencaps while playing too, just to get some nice pics to share. I don't get to do that in games that often.

I wish I could say I was enjoying it as much as you.
Evil Within was an incredible and visionary project. Directed by Mikami, knew exactly what it wanted to be. Great gameplay and layered world building. Constantly challenging the player, and letting them piece together what was going on in the story little by little. But normie gamers played it and couldn't handle it. Too hard, and setting/story beats flying over their heads.
So Evil Within 2 attempted to make it much more westernized, in all the worse ways. Mikami sitting back as producer, open world and crafting, more open ended and exploitable enemies and scenarios, much easier, and a surface level cliche "save muh daughter" storyline that everyone will immediately understand without any thought, and they continuously beat you over the head with it every 5 seconds.
Now for this game, they've just fully commited to make a westernized Bethesda/Ubisoft open world generic sandbox to appeal to everyone. Don't get me wrong, there is a lot of cool talent and passion on display. An amazing showcase of graphics, and celebration of Japanese culture. But it's all been wrapped under the hood of the most bland and generic game to come from the studio, with incredibly repetitive objectives to grind out, and ironically soulless combat. Ikumi Nakamura was in a director role, but ended up leaving the studio mid development. I don't know how much of her vision is in tact here, there's some cool ideas and personality that occasionally leaks through what is essentially a Far Cry exterior. I want to love Tango, but I do not like the direction they are going. Just following trends and becoming like every other western dev :( Hope their next project doesn't follow this trend.

This hits so many of my favorite aesthetic cues. I love how pristinely abandoned the city is. A recognizable husk is so much more unsettling than a bombed-out ruin. I'm always a sucker for gratuitous rain, and as a colorblind player, I'm so relieved that technology has progressed past 'real is grey/brown.' I can finally tell what I'm looking at, even at a distance, the same way I can in real life.
When the gameplay was first unveiled, I worried that using tengu as grappling points would feel too constrained -- an illusion of free movement, experienced strictly on rails -- but the glide lends some much-needed flexibility. imo, good movement tech lets you feel like you're _breaking rules of traversal_ that normal people have to follow. You _could_ take the stairs, or you can glide from rooftop to rooftop and experience the city from a new angle. Being able to experience the contrast lets you appreciate how high you're flying.
And as always, Suzi shows impeccable taste with the Parasite Eve soundtrack

My favorite part of this game, now that I finally went on a limb and tried it, is how it uses the tired formula open-world games like far cry use in an inspired and fun way that really changed my perspective on this type of game. The creativity in the side activities is what made them fun, like the kappa needing a cucumber to come out, and then you have to hide until it takes the bait. My favorite is the tanuki. These adorable little goofballs hiding all across the map as everyday objects, with their tail still sticking. The graphics and perspective also make this one of those games that'd be great in VR- walking through a rain soaked Shibuya, horrid monsters getting in your face, hand based controls? Obviously, doing the hand signals would be annoying, but a few games have shown that having the players' hands move on their own for events isn't as disorientling as say, having the player move without player input. Cutscenes could even have the player exist as a "ghost" standing in the scene viewing Akito, as simply another spirit piggybacking on him giving support.

If they do go forward with a sequel, I'd like to suggest Ghostwire U.S.A, where you play as an army veteran who's just returned home from service and finds himself swept up in a new paranormal phenomenon. Instead of a detective, maybe the partner character could be a criminal who attempts to possess his body in hope he can avoid judgement in the afterlife, but the two end up in the same situation as this character. Maybe some of the side quests can involve issues related to America, like maybe helping an old homeless army vet find peace after passing away, stuff like that which we hear quite a bit of. As for the combat, I'm not sure hand signs of this game would fit well with an American setting, but maybe by forming certain shapes with his hands he could mimic certain firearms; like pointing his index finger would mimic a pistol, it or an open palm could mimic a shotgun. Or heck, maybe instead of weapons he can absorb the abilities of certain ghosts and use them to fight back. I don't know, this was just something I thought up off the top of my head.
