Great sound man! best i have heard. I am hoping to get one, use my virus ti2- mininova, and poss a kaoscilator pro. I have an electro band I have set up. I wander, can you play more than one loop from the same synth? So, like have a bass loop from the TI2, and a lead- I am told the virus is multitibral. Basically I dont want to have to use 5 synths to play one song!- I want to be as live as possible, and without a pc! :) Thanks in advance
Okay so I have a stereo el cap, I'm going to build a struthi, what is the cheapest route to making something like this tune as far as other hardware is concerned? Or how about software?
I'm having trouble working with MIDI using an Octatrack as my master and the Struthi as the slave. All the settings are correct and I'm getting a signal, however I can't seem to get the shruthi to sequence correctly on the Octatrack. Any suggestions? Thank you. Nice jamm by the way
I found it! Yay! I love this great arrangement of a simple melody, first thing I heard when I started researching the Octatrack a couple of years ago. Still waiting to break through the fog and meld with the machine - but I do love this tune. Thank you!
I don't know if you already made your choice, but I can give you a few simple pointers: For hip hop, downtempo, groove based slower genres, MPC's are perfect. Very fast for making drum loops, sampling snippets of other songs and "chopping" them. For House, DnB, Dubstep, more electronic genres, the octatrack is awesome(I don't have one but I'm basing this on what I've seen). Perfect for sequencing, effects, sample manipulation. For live performance, go with the octa. It wins that category.
great combination of hardware and software. I have all of these (sub voyager and juno 60) and its great to hear this combination in what could be a live set. Thanks!
Fantastic music, great sounds. I'm thinking of buying an octatrack very soon - but I need to understand how it works better first. Do you have any knowledge of the Korg EMX1? Can you switch 'patterns' in the same way? If you can switch patterns (ie, samples, effects, midi data, etc) in an instant, with no delay then i'll buy one the second I get the cash :D
MPC when it was new stood for Midi Production Centre, and yes it is good for sequencing synths, best to think of it as a sampling drum machine with the ability to have tracks of samples / drums / MIDI sequences that you can mute live. Something like an MPC1000 or MPC2000xl with flash drive is a good choice. Thie OT looks good but it is more specialised.
Great sound! I just built a Shruthi-cool. Question; I find with el capistan it allways rolls of the top end, I know its a tape sim and have played with all settings(shift ones too).Is yours the same? I'm too scared to try an OT.
cheers man, I'm looking to incorporate an octatrack. Spectralis2 / mpc2500 / moog minitaur.... these might be nice run in capured with the OT. Eventide space over the lot...
Great video - thanks! One question: What mode are you using to turn the tracks on AND off? I thought it would be just the trig mode (for disconnected tracks), but if you're able to turn them off once they've been turned on I'm not sure...
excellent! I especially like how the bass comes in slowly ... and how you tweak the El Capistan - i own its big brother, the timeline - those are pedals from heaven!
This is awesome. I'm looking into stepping away from using my laptop in my live rig and someone told me to look at the Octatrack. Great demo of the hardware!
Wonderful work. Im curious, when you slide fader... are you shifting pitch on one of the samples? or introducing a new sound? or what??!! very curious.
Would love to know that too actually as it seems you can't do any midi cc scenes right? Great tune btw. Got a Strymon Elcapistan because of it. So happy with the one. ;)
*hi trygve, its just perfect, and good quality recording too!!!i have been looking to someone who have the octatrack for a long time, like you, cause i need to kill my doubts...i have all the aira stuff, and the jd-xa too, and i like to much the octatrack, and i see ppl talking good things of it, and my doubt is, may i buy the octatrack, or just 2 more synths instead the octatrack?thanks!!!*
its been a while since you asked the question, but from what i have seen the octatrack has nothing to do with "2 more synths", doesn't compare that way. its a sampling machine to use WITH synths and drums or stand alone. best!
Hi, awesome video, love the sound! It seems like the Octatrack is a 'deeper' and non-portable version of the OP-Z. How do they compare? Which one do you prefer? Cheers
Beautiful track... I came looking for Shruti-1 video clips, and I left with a great video on the Shruti, Cathedral Reverb, and Octatrack. :D All instruments I've been wanting. :)
Still here listening. Rock on.
It is amazing, I keep coming back to this video since day 1 of uploading this gem. Brilliant jam!
i'm on it almost a cuple of years
Still awesome..!
I watched this video about a year ago and it's the main reason I bought an ocatrack. Still sounds great even today.
there is a kind of freshness to these kind of improvisations, experimentations, that are really difficult to get in thoroughly mixed cd's
Don't know whether I've commented here or SoundCloud before now, but this is on my favourites in both, absolutely love it (and number 2). Thanks!
I still love this song, 3 yrs later :)
+Lying Dalai I just rediscovered it too, so so good! Anfim from elektronauts here, howdy!!
Could someone explain what's going behind that pitchbend effect at 0:27 and throughout?

This is the first time Iv actualy sat back and closed my eyes to drift into the sound. Excellent tune. thanks for sharing your ingenuity.

reallynice setup and track….that melody line and the deep chord bass line….nice job.
One of the better Octatrack demo's. Well done!
좋아요.
수년전 이 영상을 자주 봤고
Octatrack 사서 따라해보려고 했는데
명곡입니다.
Excellent. Love the transition at the three minute mark, and your use of space.
great combination of hardware and software. I have all of these (sub voyager and juno 60) and its great to hear this combination in what could be a live set. Thanks!
Great sound Trygve, like all your stuff!

Sir, you deffinitely are one of the big hidden youtube gems. i genuinely fell in love with your work.
I love the bass movement into the main body of the song

I don't know what to say. Just insane. Well dune. Keep the production going. Crazy good talent.
excellent! I especially like how the bass comes in slowly ... and how you tweak the El Capistan - i own its big brother, the timeline - those are pedals from heaven!
Me too thinking of buying one:) Like this very much. Nicely minimal without being monotonous.
No words.... Just Fantastic!
Excellent... Though not sure whether to wait for the next release in a few weeks.
So Great! Much better than the standard crappy synth demo I was expecting from the title.
goodness. great sound! well done!
can you suggest me other artists that make similar music to yours?????
Super cool tune man!
This has a crazy amount of plays in my music library
oh wait - are you using scenes to mute and unmute different tracks? hard to tell since your hand is in the way of the button..
wow, great sound - def one of my fav octatrack videos, keep up the good work.
This is absolutely INCREDIBLE. Thanks! I have a new favorite song now!
I really don't know anything at all about any of the stuff on that table but this was really cool. Great job, man.
This is really top quality.. Sound is fantastic
Damn thats a nice Melody,
nice build on it
Sick track. Where's the finished version?
My fav octatrack video, excellent work. Is the track still available for download?
Woow, really awesome work here!
Really well done.
This is awesome. I'm looking into stepping away from using my laptop in my live rig and someone told me to look at the Octatrack. Great demo of the hardware!
Does this box allow u to add effects to the drums? Like reverbs, delays etc and eq them?
Yeah.. Your performances and sounds are at the very top.. Period.
the bass after the break is amazing 4.20
you are very good
Great track. That brake down is brilliant!
Thanks mate a true pleasure to listen to.
Very beautiful.

Great first jam!
most fantastic octa video... you the man.
Im inspired !
Keep em coming please..
Really nice setup and nicer song!
THe Bass? Pls explain how you did it! ;)
It's really nice. Is the main melody part just a single sample which you are muting and unmuting? Or is all the timing programmed into the Octatrack?
man this is amazing. nice track.
Really enjoyed this. Thanks!
Beautifully done!
I was looking for this beat. Love your setup and Love your beat. thanks for this.

Dude... this is fantastic, thanks for making me smile!
very pleasant sound!
oh, btw nice idea to fade in the 'room' sound. did you achieve this via a short reverb or is it a mic recording?
Thanks for showing me this, it's incredible
AMZAZING! great work!
Sounds like the crossfader is assigned to control pitch, so that when the crossfader is moved the sample changes the pitch.
Love this song dude!
How possible can you not like this ?
This is really good! tight work!
Back watching again :)
very good sound !!!! Great
I love this! The drop is amazing! I would play this out all day long!

Very cool sounds!

Great jam! May I ask what kinda of desk you are using and where I may find one?
the Juno-106, Slim Phatty and Omnisphere, are these all pre-recorded or connected live?
This is amazing, great job man!
