That one colony under the hive is going to be good content when you choose to take it off or see if they can survive the winter like that! We had one colony that didn't have a queen but also no brood with polished cells. I guess she's been gone long enough I may have a virgin out getting mated, still a lot of bees and no signs of pests. I'm going to give them one more week and then make a decision on moving their resources elsewhere.
They have since been removed Brian. Stay tuned for the video. I think it turned out pretty well and will make good content. I hope to have it uploaded within 3-4 weeks. Cheers!
Hey Charlie. It really just depends on the fall flow in your area. We don’t get much here in Kentucky sadly. Perhaps you do in PA? If yes, I absolutely would throw a super on with drawn comb! Cheers!
In my day you used a lead pencil on a metal zipper. Some say a bar of soap. If it's propolis you may need to get that off first. For sticky stuff, usually an oily based substance like baby oil, peanut butter oil, coconut oil or commercial things like Goo Gone, which I've had mixed results with so just went back to the originals. If they are plastic zippers then I am clueless.
@@beesintheweeds i never have tried to overwinter with only 1 box, i could never reduce my hives down to only 1, lucky to get down to 3 boxes, rarely 2 boxes, with quilt Box and candy board on top
@@billyboy952I’m going into my fifth winter doing only singles with a Vivaldi board on top and I’ve never lost a colony through winter. I’m in Kentucky so geography matters. I do have several videos posted of my method throughout the winters you can check out if you wish. Cheers!
Use a dry silicone spray for zippers. Also keeps goo from sticking the zipper.
Thank you!!!

Bee wax for zipper

As you know, it’s September 9 is it too late to add a honey soup already built out thank you Charlie PA😢

Thanks for the info!
what are your plans with only 1 box of bees at this late time in the year?
Normal for me. I typically only overwinter singles. The colonies that were queen less get combined with queen right colonies.

What you should do is add that open air hive that need a home
Stay tuned for a future video. 😁
use graphite on the zipper.
Thank you!
hahaha you know it's not going to fix itself. I've done similar things by being lazy and made more work for myself 😂 Things happen.
Oh I definitely made more work for myself! 🤣 It was a pain to remove. I’ll post the video soon. Stay tuned!
