Hi
I have grown potatoes . No fertilisers used. Its been about 4 months . I can see small potatoes underground but the plants didn't flower at all. And now plants are drying out because it's hot weather here may be? Should I harvest now?
This is a great tip considering it’s 2am, I don’t own a farm, I live in a subdivision, and I don’t eat potatoes. At least now I know when to harvest them.
😂😂😂
😝
🙌😂
Nice👏🏻
Lmaooo
5 years later and this video is more useful than all this new "influencers" THank you! about to harvet mine in a month :)
God bless and dont forget that Jesus loves yall !
Thanks!!
My wife always jumps the gun and harvest potatoes way to early. Gonna have to make her watch this and stand Guard over my potatoes withy pitchfork.
LOL!!
This is my first time planting potatoes from my kitchen stock.
My store bought potatoes started to wrinkle and sprout. I have a raised garden bed and decided to put them in the ground.
Now I have a lot of plants. Nice to see them grow. Cant wait to harvest
How did your potatoes do? I did the same thing but have not harvested yet.
I had some seed potatoes but i had a big store bought sprouting one as well. It did great for me.
@@K2mtp mine did fair. I would plant the seed potatoes next time though.
I totally learned how to plant and harvest potatoes from you. Thank you so much. I just had my first planting harvest and I got 4 pounds of potatoes and I’m so excited.
Somewhere along the line I learned to plant them in a trashcan that the bottom has been cut off of. > keep adding soil to mimic hilling. When it's time to harvest you just tip it over. Easy peasy.
Good idea! I’ll try that next time 🙏
We're so excited, just got flowers on our potatoes. Now we must wait and be patient 🙂🥔
Did you get a harvest? Potatoes are by far our favorite crop to harvest.
@@GutenGardening we got little spuds, lol 😆 now we're trying in containers, fingers crossed
@@SuzyTopAgent We welcome the little spuds as well. Keep trying! We love growing in containers.
I usually pick some of the smaller new potatoes because it’s one of my favorite dishes lightly salted roasted with onions and a mix of olive oil and butter. Ploping a potato plant in a container by your porch works great for summertime new potatoes and keep the garden for late summer or fall harvest.
Great tip!
I planted some Norland Red early season ones, here in northern Ontario. Got three rows 6 ft long in the ground , and also some growing in a large pot. Will be interesting to see which way will yield more.
Great, simple, quick video telling us exactly what the title said! Thank you good sir!
So excited to harvest my first potatoes! thank you for the advice!
I have 20 hills waiting for us...cant wait, its time! I like to have a "potato party" with the grandkids. We make teams & I have prizes for the most potatoes in a hill, the most overall # at the end, weirdest potato, etc. So fun, it's like finding buried treasure. Then make em' some fries:)
That is a fun tradition! I miss having little ones around to help dig potatoes, all of ours are teens now so it's not so thrilling for them! ;)
That seems like so much fun. It is also smart. I started gardening because I had wonderful memories of being with my grandfather in his community garden. You are creating great memories and life lessons for the children.
You answered my question exactly, thank you.
No problem!
Thanks for a quick, straightforward answer on this. Much appreciated
Glad it was helpful!
Everything was said perfectly! Thank you!! This is my 1st time planting them.

I'm glad I listened to this! Mine are not yet flowering, but I asked a friend and he said they were ready to be harvested. I even made an attempt and felt around with my hands to see if they were, but no! No potatoes! I'm leaving them alone for now! Thank you :)
Glad this helps!. Keep in mind that there are a few varieties of potatoes that don't flower, but I always wait to harvest mine until the tops start to die back.

Very informative

My pleasure
Great tips 🤗
This is my first year growing spuds, so I am learning a lot. I grew two tubs indoors over the winter and put out early. Harvested in late March. Got a late start on the in-ground patch, by a month or so, but already have flowers first of June. Next year, I should be able to get them in outside in March for a double harvest. In the meantime, the spud tubs are filled with carrot sprouts for a reuse.
Awesome! I love to see people reusing lot's of growing space!!
Wat a wonderful video.... Thank u.
Thank you!!
Oh, there's flowers on mine. Harvesting potatoes is like a treasure hunt. Anyway, at my garden it is. I've moved the potato patch but the potatoes didn't care. On their own they have come up everywhere in the garden. Good think I love potatoes.
So the flowers just mean you have small potatoes, if you want larger ones wait until the tops die back! Volunteer potatoes are the only "volunteer" plants I let grow in my garden, I just don't have the heart to pull them up! :)
I had a potato plant come up in my compost pile and let it go to see what would happen. It’s kind of taking over. Looks super healthy and lots of flowers. Thinking there are a lot of taters under there.
Thanks. Super informative!
Glad it was helpful!
@@StoneyAcresGardening Planted yukons and Idaho's a few weeks back. They sprouted about 5 days ago. First time growing so I appreciate the vid and super happy I didn't have to watch a 15 munite vid 😅
Best way to dig is to grow them in large livestock mineral tubs(after minerals have been eaten). Just dump them over and pick up the potatoes!
That really depends on where you live. Potatoes don't do well in containers in our hot dry summers. We just don't get enough rain so it is hard to keep containers moist. They do much better planted directly in the soil.
Thank you.
Peace
You're Welcome!
I planted my potatoes around May in a large pot. They’re peering over like vines but still sturdy and vibrant green in mid July. In texas the first frost might not come til December. I don’t want to pull them up too soon!
Wait till the tops die back, most varieties take at least 90 days to mature, many are closer to 120, so you still have time.
Good video, helpful informations thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you, almost pulled a very small healthy potato plant just because it was starting ro flower.
Glad I stopped you!! 😃😃
Thanks
The 57 dislikes are from the harvested potatoes
Edit: It seems more potatoes have been harvested lately
LOL!!
At least one of them is Ruth Stout's ghost.
hahaha. good one.
They're jealous they don't have any po tate toes
😆
Planted in a raised bed and my potatoes already died off but my ground plants are growing and looks green.
Thanks
Good vid, keep them going!
Thanks!!
Thanks, another learning and the info.
Very useful
How can you get garlic bulbs to grow larger? I clip or bend the stem as it starts to uncurl then wait 2 to 3 weeks after to harvest when main leaves brown.
great video
Thank you!!!
You're welcome!
New subscriber here thanks for the simple informative video
Thanks for the sub!
I grow a potatoe and it finished flowing a week ago I'll wait till the end of July to harvest as I grow 1 potatoe in a 20 liter plant now I can kinda see signs of it dying off as before it was lush dark green leaves now it's slightly yellow with very light green
Great info, new sub here, thank you and looking forward to more videos
Thanks for the sub!
In the 5 min one , ive never seen a sadder lot !
Debating whether to dig up the potato plants that came up in my strawberry bed. I planted sprouted eyes last year, did not think they would grow. Now they are in flower. Did better than the potatoes I tried to grow in buckets in other years. No diseases. I guess I will dig up the whole thing when the potatoes die back and try to replant the strawberries.
Thank you (amino acid, calcium and silica help with any blight issues)
@Ourstoneyacres A question -- WHEN do we stop watering -- when they fall?
Thanks
I usually stop a week before I harvest, but potatoes are different than things like onions or garlic, it is less important. You don't want the soil to get dry and hard to dig.

Perfect! Thank you ❤️❤️
You're welcome 😊
Mine in a big pot was bushy but never flowered and are now dying off. The ones in the ground have all flowered but they are not bushy at all.
I have seen some videos where they say to cut off the flowers so that the energy goes into growing the potatoes
Nice
Thanks
The waiting needs the patience of Job. Sometimes I weaken and pay for my haste with small potatoes. One lives and learns.
I used a bug net over mine they are up to my waist literally almost at 90 days no leaf fade.
Look how nice that dirt (soil) is, would we all have soil like that.
Hi Rick
QUESTION….. im growing in bag pot …. It’s been quite sometime early spring
tops are not falling over yet. Still getting a Little new green foliage here or there
🤷♀️ Do I just keep waiting????
