It is truly scary. I have been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Had the whipple surgery. Was in ICU for 28 days. Came home for 2 weeks and back to hospital for another week with infection. Had another surgery and more drainage tubes. Another surgery for metastasis in my neck. Going on 2 yrs now. Thank you Jesus. I wanted to make it for my youngest daughter to graduate high school and she graduates in a couple weeks! That is my blessing for sure!

My husband was diagnosed with stage 1V melanoma that mastitis to his brain on Father’s Day weekend 2017. With 8 or more brain tumors He was literally on deaths door step. I was devastated. Our Daughter was married 1 month later during his radiation treatment plan. Our son was earning his PHD our other daughter married with her family. It was surreal . I was his advocate night and day nine trips to the ER in 1 year. But praise God he is alive and well and is completely cancer free . It’s all do to modern day medicine immune therapy , new treatments and cancer awareness , fantastic Doctors and lots and lots of prayer. He is Enjoying our family, our grandchildren and his life one day at a time. I’m eternally grateful he made it through this difficult journey of his life. 🕊️

My mom survived pancreatic cancer when I was 2 years old. She had Whipple surgery to remove her pancreas and part of her intestines. She begged doctors to believe her for over a whole year! One GI doctor told her it was stress and recommended a book on relaxation. My mom knew something was off so she went to the library and researched her symptom in a medical book. Her primary symptom (sorry to be TMI) was diarrhea which led to unintended weight loss. Test after test was normal until her scan. My mom is still here today 34 years later. Trust your instinct! Doctors know the human body, but you know when something isn’t normal for you! Best of luck to anyone struggling to be heard.
Oh my gosh I'm so happy for you. You have such an intelligent mother, thank God she fought for herself. Women are so often told their symptoms are just anxiety, it sucks. My own mom passed away from pancreatic cancer even though it was caught early. She was encouraged to postpone surgery until many rounds of chemo, the last of which was too much and killed her. I'm sure you'll always treasure the time you have with your mom ❤️
@@wge621 I’m so sorry for your loss 😔 I really hate to hear that. I lost my dad when I was 19 to complications of diabetes. My mom is really the only family I have left so yes, I never take that for granted. In fact, now that she’s older I worry a little too much about that. Thanks for sharing and yes, women have a long history of being dismissed by doctors sadly, I agree.

My mom had pancreatic cancer. She had a Whipple at MD Anderson with a huge team of doctors and specialists and nurses. She got pneumonia in the hospital. Mom survived it all. The docs called her the Bionic Woman. She also had a pacemaker and a leaky valve. Mom lived to be 88, 16 years after this. God chose her for her miracle.

I am a 10 year pancreatic cancer survivor. I lived through the Whipple Procedure which is a very complex surgery. I give God ALL the glory! ! He gave the doctors the capability. Some commenters have said that the doctors and/ or science is responsible. Only God! And praise God this pretty lady is a miracle and fixing to welcome a baby!

Very rare. My mom was given a year and passed away 9 months after diagnosis. Only 5% of people who get this cancer, live past 5 years
My grandmother was diagnosed, and she passed less than 3 months later. It's tough. I salute anyone who beats it.
Oh gosh my heart breaks for you all. My mum passed away within 6 months of her pancreatic cancer diagnosis. To hear that someone survived this terrible disease really is wonderful & gives a glimmer of hope.
Survival is probably rare because pancreatic cancer usually isn’t diagnosed until it’s at a later stage. Maria was lucky her cancer was caught at stage 2.
As someone else said, it isn’t that pancreatic cancer has such a low survival rate. It could potentially be higher. The problem is, that it’s almost symptomless, so most people catch it at stage (late 3-4) after it’s already spread and it’s too late. If everyone caught it at stage 2 as Maria did, it would have a much higher survival rate. Maria got lucky because someone pushed her to do an off grid MRI.
As a nurse I ALWAYS tell patients that they have to be their own best advocate. You know your body better than anyone else. If something doesn’t feel right keep pushing.
You have to be your own advocate translation: MD's and/or medical providers don't have a clue because they are practicing medicine.

Yeah but as a common person how do you know when to get a CT Scan or MRI? To Maria's point, she was in pain twice till she was shaken up. We need proper medical guidance at the right time

Hi Maxine, I too lost my mom to this disease. I know what it’s like to be in your shoes but believe it or not one day it won’t hurt as much. Your mom can live on through you. I’m sure she loved you greatly and doesn’t want you to be sad for her. Remember the good moments and if you want to cry you can but pick yourself up in honor of your mom. You are capable of living a life your mom would be proud to see. Wishing you comfort and peace.

My best friend came through stage 4 cancer and was deemed cancer free. A few months after, she started to have pain and her blood count was showing that something was wrong. She pushed for every test and it was finally a PET scan that showed pancreatic cancer. Please be your own advocate and push when you know there is something wrong. The doctors will not always be as proactive as we need them to be. God bless you both for sharing this! You are helping many with your own experiences and will help save lives!

Totally agree. With my first pregnancy my doctors dismissed me. Through my first trimester they took me off medicine that would be important due to a preexisting condition. They often cancelled my appointments and would forget to do certain tests. They didn’t even listen to my son’s heartbeat. They claimed it was risky to do so (it’s not) Then my placenta started tearing off the wall. I had placental abruption and it was found during an emergency appointment and I was sent home. Not to the hospital. Home. She just told me to go home and not lift anything more than a gallon of milk. At the same time my mom had a tumor in her uterus that needed to come out. She had the same ob and the OB refused to do surgery because blood work was off but it was off because of the tumor so another OB in the same hospital had to do it. Not long after we learned the OB and her partner had 5 pending lawsuits. A year or 2 later they had a sheriff’s sale at the clinic. I lost my son because my placenta had come off the wall. When I was lifeflighted to cleveland clinic the OB who is head of that department was asking questions about my pregnancy and especially about the care I received. I thank God everyday the doctor is no longer an OB. But her ex partner still is. Before you choose a doctor look at reviews. Go to County court sites and see if they’re being sued. Several of those are a red flag. My son should be here.

As a medical provider I would def confirm upon physical exam,/palpation, imaging and biopsy, then refer out asap. Not ALL HC providers dismiss symptoms. There are great providers out here.

I am also a pancreatic cancer survivor. My heart goes out to Maria as it’s a really tough and life changing battle but to come out the other end and being cancer free is an absolute blessing. When people talk about pancreatic cancer, we usually only hear about Patrick Swayze and Steve Jobs, who both passed away from pancreatic cancer. We need to hear about survivors!! Maria is my hero and I wish her so much healing love (with the best laugh in show business) 💕
Steve Jobs apparently found it early and had the less dire form. He went holistic and didn’t have to die…. I’m glad you survived and are able to share your story.

I suffered with pancreatic pain for four years and doctors kept telling me that it was in my head. Finally a great pancreatic specialist diagnosed me and I had a complete pancreatectomy in 2019. God bless you!!

This just goes to show that YOU know your body better than anyone else. Just because a test comes back clear doesn’t mean that nothing’s going wrong. Listen to your body!
It was a miracle she found out at stage 2. Most people find out too late. Amazing. She is going to save lives.
And that's the secret. Most people aren't even feeling any symptoms of pancreatic cancer until it's reached stage 3 or 4, usually the latter. One could say that her previous health issues may have saved her here, as they were doing more detailed evaluations than they might have otherwise.
She also had a rare less aggressive type of pancreatic cancer
@@remmer7010 Yes she had neuroendocrine pancreatic cancer which is much less aggressive - with a much better prognosis - so lucky for her. Pancreatic adenocarcinoma is really a whole other beast and almost impossible to catch early and even if it is much more likely to spread. In memory of my brother Alan who died 15 years ago with pancreatic adenocarcinoma at the age of 50.
My mom found out when she had stage 2. It was still too late. We had 2 years with her fighting it. Doctors had said 6 months. I am amazed and happy when anyone beats it.
@@4seeableTV Gloria Carter Spann (1926-1990), motorcyclist, activist, sister of Jimmy Carter, was diagnosed in 1989, feeling no symptoms. It was discovered during a routine medical examination. Three months later, she was dead.
She has been incredibly privileged with her care which makes a huge difference in the outcome. Even with being a good advocate for your own health it can be sometimes impossible to be seen or diagnosed properly. Her influence, money, network of contacts, and just quality of healthcare IS that miracle she is talking about.

I think the main problem with pancreatic cancer is it's hard and expensive to diagnose. Still this woman has been through more than most will ever know. People like to complain about the US health care system even though it's one of the best in the world. Everyone has access to health care in the United States
@Brian Redban everyone does not have access to care - if you don't have the money, you will often be turned away. It has happened to me personally at the er. They said I had to pay 200 or leave. There are stories of ppl being turned away and dying within 24 hours. Many have dies because they cant afford an ambulance. And our Healthcare outcomes are way down on the list of countries, so you are wrong on both counts!

@@brianredban9393because it’s only one of the best in the world for the healthy and wealthy. The ACA made it more accessible for many underprivileged, but there are still plenty of major issues you can feel blessed to be able to ignore.
I had to advocate and fight to get a CA-125 test when my doctor said it was nothing, results came back out of normal range - he still dismissed it because they weren’t high enough - I advocated and went to 2 more doctors until one finally did the studies and found ovarian cancer - thankfully early (stage 2) because I fought to get the answer otherwise I may not be a cancer survivor today. She is amazing for bringing this important part to peoples attention- please advocate for yourself it can mean your life - ❤

@@staskastefi ultrasound which showed something but not clearly enough, so they did an MRI which showed a mix of fluid and solid. So for me, MRI was the game changer. Also thank you
@@jennifermiller1160 okay thank u! I’ve had an mri done because I’ve had had prolonged ovary pain, the test said there are masses but they’re cysts so I was just wondering how clearly the mri can tell something, but that’s reassuring it can clearly tell the difference

She’s lucky but it’s not just her. I have excellent insurance. The guy next to me doesn’t based on his job. The system sucks and is appalling. Your job should not determine whether you receive good medical care.

I can totally relate to Maria. Early January2021 I suddenly developed type 2 Diabetes again, although I had beaten it 3 yrs prior through diet etc. Then came changes in bowel habit, followed by extremely itchy back and excrutiating pain, very swollen abdomen , to the point I had to wear maternity jeans at 74 yrs , and total loss of appetite. My practitioner gave all sorts lame reasons for all my symptoms so I had to insist that I I was referred to Specialists at the hospital. ( late Feb. "21) Like Maria , I then had a barrage of tests over the next 8 weeks, until finally in mid April I was called back to see the top surgeon, who told me I had Pancreatic Cancer, BUT I was extremely lucky as it was only Stage 2 and was Tail end and hadn't spread any where else. ( Stage 2 A ) I was operated on May 15th , and like Maria, had bottom half of Pancreas removed, also all my Spleen. ( Now have Zero immunity to every type of infection ) 6 weeks later I started on a 6 month treatment programme of Chemo therapy, which finished Xmas week 2021. My Oncologist told me then that if I remained free of it for two years I would have beaten it. A big part of beating any Cancer is removing all negative influences from your life ( Firstly removed any negative friends from my life ) and concentrate 100% on healing. Only 7 months to go before I can say I have beaten it, but I will be taking 2 antibiotic pills a day for the rest of my life, plus I am super careful about where I go and what potential infections I am being exposed to. When people ask how I am , I reply " very thankful to be walking on the grass, not lying underneath it"
How did she do that? That’s gotta be a miracle to be recovered from a pancreatic cancer. She is so lucky. Really happy for her and her loved ones.
i think where it’s located in the pancreas and the fact that it hasn’t metastasized is very important but still she is extremely a lucky person and it must have been psychologically excruciating to say the least.
She has nueroendocrine cancer in the pancreas Not the typical Pancreatic cancer. She is being misleading.

This is almost unheard of! I’ve been an oncology nurse for 10 years treating patients with chemotherapy and pancreatic cancer is devastating. Most patients do not live long after diagnosis, because it’s usually caught late and hard to treat. This is an amazing story and I’m so happy for her and her beautiful recovery. Pancreatic is one of the tough ones. I’m glad to hear she’s one of the few who lived to tell about it.
When I worked as a RN, pancreatic cancer was a very short term disease, sadly- and it was horribly painful for the patients. I lost a cousin a few years ago from a particularly aggressive form of pancreatic cancer. Fortunately now, there are so many more options for treatment, and better outcomes for a longer period of time. I wish her all the best, as well as all of those who are also struggling with this diagnosis. ❤

Just TODAY, this morning (prior to seeing this video), I called my GI doctor to make an appointment as I have chronic acute pancreatitis for decades, and I’m currently having bad pancreatic pain, daily. I’ve put off going to see my GI for many months as I’m terrified. I have a mutated pancreatic gene, so I already have a 50% chance of getting pancreatic cancer in my lifetime. Not to mention I also have a severe chronic muscle disease, also from a mutated gene. I had a major pancreatic surgery over 15 years ago (I’m 39) to have the tail of my pancreas removed, and a bowel bipass, etc. in hopes it would help lessen my pancreatitis flares; and it did, however in recent times, my flares are back, and my daily abdominal and back pain is horrible. I feel like coming across Maria’s interview is a sign. Hopefully a good sign that my damaged pancreas is cancer-free. What are the odds I see this interview the day I finally make my GI appt? I’ve had so many loved ones, and even other doctor’s begging me to get in, and I’m finally going in on June 19th (I’m on a cancellation list also.) Oh, what I would give to communicate with Maria. I am so scared. I’m a Mommy and a wife, and my family needs me. My little family has already had to say goodbye to me a few times as my muscle disease almost took me over the years. I can’t leave them. I’m trying to stay positive, and I just want to get an MRI asap. Please send prayers and positivity my way? Mainly for my family’s sake. I nearly cried, listening to her story. Thank God she got through it. I think she should really talk about how every American deserves free healthcare so if they have this happened to them, they have a chance to live just like you because I’ll be able to get the best care and it won’t matter if they’re rich or poor
That’s a sweet sentiment but it’s just not the truth. I just watched a UA-cam video last night about a young man in Canada who had a major health scare, thinking he had colon cancer. They have “ free” health care and basically it means sub par health care. The waiting to get seen is incredibly long. They finally came out with a system where if you can pay cash, you can get bumped up in the line and see a specialist, which he did. So it’s still not equal care. There are lots of people from countries with free health care who come here because we are the best. My mother in law in England had to wait THREE YEARS just to get a minor bladder procedure done, because it wasn’t “ urgent”. There is no perfect health care system, just like life isn’t perfect or fair. We are responsible for ourselves. The government is not suppose to be in the business of health care, anyway! Our country is in billions of dollars in debt because our government has gone off the deep end many years ago, getting into things they have no business getting into and funding and regulating! Besides, we do have a safety net of Medicare for low income people, so there’s that, and it’s a hot mess. 🤷♀️
@@ndgrandma1818 Exactly right. I don't know where these people get the idea that free medical care is great. It blows my mind that people would advocate for this. The reality of it all is long waiting lines and the disease becomes worse and now the money that you could've used if you weren't taxed so high can't be used for private care. If this idea of free medical care is coming from the government all people have to do is look at our education system to see how that works out. Most teachers send their children to private school. I think most people who advocate for free medical care are horribly misinformed and have no initiative to go research the truth. What's even scarier is how many likes this person got for commenting like a government lemming.

@@ndgrandma1818don’t get me started on the horrible cancer protocols my UK nieces and nephews had. The NHS great for basic general care for EVERYBODY. Acute and emergency the system is NOT good and also Americans, UK NHS does not include “Free chemo.” We had to do fundraisers for every treatment.
I am so happy that you are cancer free. If you want to help others help them to have access to the same care you did, specifically the scans. I’ve lost so many family members to that particular cancer and none survived. So happy she was blessed to be cured.

The word cured does NOT exist with pancreatic cancer ! You are Temporarily “cured” stage two with taking out the pancreas it will come back with in 3 to 24 months usually to the liver and lungs … the “cure” is finding it early removing it and gaining alittle more time. Less than 5 percent live 5 years. It gives people false hope to say you survived …. There is no surviving this awful cancer ! I do pray that she has a real miracle that she lives a long healthy life but this cancer is merciless and the numbers never mean cured :(

So happy for her. However, pancreatic cancer is almost always diagnosed stage III or IV and less than 15% survival 5 years post diagnosis. Important to celebrate her win but also acknowledge what a devastating diagnosis this, and for most people who are not surgical candidates, it is a fatal diagnosis. We need more money and research into pancreatic cancer.
Agreed. My mother died in 2019 after fighting pancreatic cancer for three years. She had stomach pain and bowel issues and nobody could figure it out until it was already at stage 4 and inoperable. She was in her early 70s and had been so alive and active prior to the diagnosis. I miss her every day.

I've loved Maria's positive energy and grace since I saw her on TV for the first time 15yrs ago. She always makes me smile when I see her on the screen, except for this time. Man, she made me cryyyyyy. I can't believe the things that have happened to her health-wise.

I went through something similar, but mine didn't turn into cancer. I had my gallbladder removed in April 2021. As soon as I got out of surgery and into the recovery bed, I felt that something was wrong. First of all, durning my surgery, my surgeon told me he found that I had an extra duct (duct of Lutshka). After I went home, I wasn't recovering from abdominal pain as other people that know had recovered from the same surgery. After a few weeks of right side abdominal pain, right shoulder pain and pain under my right rib, I knew something was wrong. I kept going back to the ER and they kept sending home after having a CT scan at almost every visit. I also kept calling my gastroenterologist and he kept attributing it to acid reflux and it being normal symptoms for recovering from this type of surgery. Meanwhile, I kept googling my symptoms and what I read everytime kept leading to gallstones left in the bile duct or pancreatitis. Fast forward to Sept. 2022, the pain was so severely that I felt like someone he'd socked my in the middle of the stomach and I could barely take a full breath. I went to the ER. I had blood tests and a CT scan, and they sent me home and told me I had high cholesterol, a small kidney stone (R), mind you that the discharge ER doctor didn't go over the results me, he just told the nurse to discharge me herself without consulting with me at all. After I got home, I googled everything that was abnormal with my blood test from the ER. My lipase levels were 2Xs the normal, I was dehydrated, and much more. 2 days later, I passed 3 mint color, medium sized gallstones. But I still felt very ill. After intensely advocating for myself throughout this time, I finally found a hepatic & liver that requested an MRCP and endoscopic ultrasound for me. He finally found that I have problems with my cystic duct being dilated and I have scarring all over my pancreas. I'm still getting tests done to this day. But, getting some relief from having so much pain, for such a long time.
Don't let doctors just by pass you and tell you that everything is normal because the tests that they ordered don't show anything's wrong with you. Having any type of pain and discomfort should always be the top indicator that something is not right with you. Fight for your life, because no one else will. 🙏

it is never the end of the world, i had HIV but when a friend of mine recommended a healer and caster for me, and she helped me out and i am NEGATIVE now, i was tested twice and i am free now

5 weeks ago, my older brother was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer. Today, he has hours to live on life support. Two years ago, he was diagnosed with stage 2 diabetes. That should have been the warning sign that doctors don't follow up on and now I am losing my brother.
Yes, doctors can be so slack sometimes. When someone gets diabetes out of the blue and it doesn't run in their family, check the pancreas.
Same thing happened to my 80 yo friend who has stage iv pancreatic cancer.

Please please try to get surgery if you can. It's such an aggressive cancer and every story I've heard of someone who survived included getting surgery. My own mom was discouraged from getting surgery because they said she needed to get many rounds of chemo first. It was even caught early. She might have still been here if she got different advice.
My Father is also fighting this cancer. It's taken thru so much. I'm praying for your Mom.

Maria, I am putting you on my family's prayer chain. Even my grandchildren, the younest being 8, will pray for you! We have been praying for a woman with pancreatic cancer for five years with her doing well. A year ago her scans showed several tumors on the brain, so her doc sent her and her scans to Houston. Those doctors looked at the scans and Karen yes, the cancer had spread. She knew we were praying for her in Houston, the the doctors took moe scans-and then more scan and told Karen there was no sign of cancer anywhere in her brain! The Bible says God numbers our days. It's what I told my oncologist 14 years ago when he told me I had stage4 Nasalpharengeal cancer and 6 months to live! Trust in Him, Maria, and congratulations on your first child coming!

Believe in the Power of Prayer but do not get it confused with His Promises. He will answer prayers according to His Will and For His Glory. But He never promised that if you pray and pray He will answer and give you what you want. He did promise however to give you comfort, and peace, and be by your side and hold you, and ultimately salvation and eternal life. So after praying, no matter what His answer may be, may we pray for peace that trespasses all understanding and contentment as we lean and trust in Him that everything is for our good.
Wow, she has been through a lot. She is definitely right. I had pain in my mouth for a few years. It wouldn't go away and none of the doctors saw anything when they took small biopsies. Finally, I decided to get one more doctor's opinion. He sent me to a head and neck cancer doctor. I had stage 4 tongue cancer. I thank God for keeping me in remission. Listen to your instincts like Maria said. It is better to be wrong than to have waited too late.

@@EB321 the traditional test for it is called a fecal elastase test, but my doctor recognized my symptoms and put me on pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy without testing just to see if my symptoms improved, and 95% of my symptoms went away.

I’m glad to know she’s doing well and hearing her story is inspiring. However when she got to the end of the interview and stated to listen to your body as we all should, I think there’s a huge difference from her listening to her body and others. Thankfully she’s in a place in life that she can get all the best healthcare and treatments that anyone can get. Actually the fact she can get healthcare in itself is a grateful thing to have. That MRI scan she received is over $5k and most insurance (if you happen to have insurance) don’t cover it. So although I love hearing her story, I wish it could really shine a light that everyone should be in a place that if their body is telling them something they can go right ahead and see a doctor. I say this because I battled cancer just over a year ago. Luckily I was able to find some medical assistance, but I didn’t have health insurance. My little savings that I had was wiped out from just getting some tests to confirm the diagnosis. I also waited longer to get checked out as not having insurance was what delayed me going in. Also the cancer tumor I had on my arm looked like just a pimple. No pain, no discoloration, nothing coming from it even though I was trying to pop it. I say all this to say, that hopefully she could be advocate for universal healthcare rather than just going to see a doctor when you feel something. Because I know all to well after working in the health insurance industry for 15 years, I can’t tell you how many reports I read where people knew something was wrong, but they ignored it until it was to late all because they didn’t have healthcare. It’s an unfortunate truth that still persists even after being away from the healthcare field for over a decade 😢.

I completely agree. I had to make a doctors appointment and the earliest I could get in is six weeks later. And that was just for a doctors appointment. I had to have my heart monitored last year and had to wait six months just for the machine that I had to wear. There is a big difference in people with money, great healthcare and connections...and us everyday people that don't have that and have to wait a long time to be seen even if we know something is wrong.

Hers is a success story, for sure. But you're so correct when you say there are many, many, people who can't just run in to their primary when they feel that something is wrong. Those unfortunate folks with no insurance, or government-funded health plans, have to wait for months to get pre-approval for an MRI, and other diagnostic exams. It's not just go get one done if you think something is wrong. Universal healthcare, such as the UK's NHS, also has long waits to get advanced imaging tests, and a patient may get a lot worse, or even die, while they wait. The only answer, at this point, is to be fortunate enough to have decent insurance, which of course, is not a good solution for everyone.
@@melissahalsey184 I have the best coverage one can have in Canada, and still have absolutely no answers after 6 years of constant, near death anemia. It’s freaking appalling.

One of the loveliest ladies I worked with Retired in January and died of pancreatic cancer at the end of March a couple of years ago. I was absolutely gutted. She was one of the nicest people with a wonderful husband and family. My heart is broken for them.

My condolences to your wife and your family. I had a family member diagnosed with stage 4 and she was gone soon after starting treatment. Very mysterious disease so hard to catch early.
My mom died from this 9 months after diagnosis. She was only 64. 😞
I know 85% of pancreatic cancer patients were/are smokers. And/or also overweight. And then there’s the 15% that just get that cancer 🤷🏼♀️

My mom passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2019 at the young age of 67. My mom was diagnosed and within I believe 3 months, she died. I do not believe for one second that God gave her cancer, or tried to teach her lesson from it. The God of the Bible is a good God, and he doesn't bring harm to us in any way.
