    How inspiring! Beautiful first day around Osaka, wow, Osaka Castle is stunning!! 8 stories high is quite an impressive feat. Really enjoyed the video, love the train seats, a clever design to be fair! Love all the murals and the lights they light up the city wonderfully. Thank you both for an excellent first day, so fun!

    Wow! Very good video! Japan is a country that really really uses their coins. That said; 1 on the tiniest coins is the 1 yen coin. It’s just a little bigger than a shirt button. It’s made of aluminum. It’s worth about 1/100 of a cent. Anyway, I think people would be amazed how tiny it is. There’s so many items that are Japan only. Japan does very little landfilling of rubbish. It’s recycled as much as possible. The rest is incinerated . The heat from that is used for heating and generating electricity. Nothing is wasted.

      Excuse me for using a translation.
      Tokyo has been expanding its land by landfill, and especially since its rapid economic growth, landfill has been promoted using garbage.
      In fact, until about 20 years ago, the construction of waste treatment facilities was not completed in time, and in many cases, even raw garbage was buried as it was. In recent years, intermediate treatment (incineration, shredding, etc.) has become available for all garbage, and landfill sites are being utilized more and more.
      For example, "Umi-no-Mori (Sea Forest) Park" is located on top of 12.3 million tons of garbage and construction soil, and was the venue for the equestrian events at the Tokyo Olympics. I visited there once and found it to be an ordinary island with lush greenery.

    Those flakes are called "katsuo-bushi", made from smoked tuna. If you look closely, some of the flakes are moving; it's as if they were alive, but it's because they are so thin and light they get animated by the rising steam.

    From what I've heard, Osaka is one of the more laid-back cities. They're not so overly serious with everything. Not sure if people who don't speak Japanese or who are just visiting, would notice the difference. I hope one day to actually spend some time there, my only visit was just to pass through, to catch a train to go elsewhere, and saw they had trains with 'women-only' cars!

    • @pastense
      @pastense Місяць тому

      Definitely true! I call it the ‘California’ of Japan. The vibe there is much more less reserved and less conservative than that of Tokyo. Walking around one day, I could’ve sworn I caught a whiff of that good herb! 🌿💨 I KNOW that smell anywhere! lol
      Another funny moment there. Me and my dad were in a rush to get back to our hotel after a long exhausting walk. We rushed ourselves into the first train car we could get on. After a few stops I realized that me and my dad were the only men on the train and realized it was a women-only train! We had several stops left so I just kept my head down in anxiety. Surprisingly (or, NOT surprisingly?) nobody seemed to notice the whole time. Fun times. I really needa go back ASAP!

    Since time immemorial Okinawa was a peaceful, prosperous independent nation known as Ryukyu (alternative spellings: Loo Choo, Lew Chew, Luchu). Ryukyu maintained close, friendly, mutually-beneficial relations with China, Korea, and Southeast Asia, and signed treaties of equal recognition with the United States of America, France, and the Netherlands. In 1609 the Satsuma clan of Japan invaded Ryukyu, forcing Ryukyuans to pay tribute which was the start of Japanese prejudice towards Ryukyuans, but Ryukyu nevertheless continued be an independent country. In 1879 Japan again invaded, this time forcefully annexing Ryukyu against the will of Ryukyuans. After World War II all of Japan's other colonies were given back their independence, but not Ryukyu. Instead the United States military decided to keep Ryukyu for itself to use for bases. In 1972 the U.S. "gave" Ryukyu to Japan, without a vote from Ryukyuans, and today Ryukyu is under joint U.S. - Japan occupation.
