    This video reminds me of when we'd use 1.250" diameter solid carbide Kennametal Harvi 3 6 fluters with chip splitters to do trochoidal toolpaths at 3.750" depth of cut in some pre heat treated 4140(28-32Rc) we originally started at 40IPM feed... After I got bored and ran a few parts we decided to increase it to 200IPM. 319IPM was that Mazak integrex max feed rate which we tried but it sang pretty good.. so 200IPM it was and we even got about 16 hours of roughing before we'd send it for light regrind. In this specific scenario this played most of the part in reducing cycle time from sub 21 HRS per part to 15HRS and 25MIN.
    Here's the kickers, my whole team was told we weren't going fast enough to make our president happy. So we then proceeded to create lights out programs that would run roughing operations over night and during weekends.. welp.. at some point shortly after we came to the conclusion there was no pleasing our new superior (#4 of 5 in a 2.5 year span) and when times got tough they walked away from the company only to watch it almost crumble from a distance. Oh yeah they also decided to mouth off to some big customers and lie to our sister company which gave us 90% of our work. Which in turn had them pull all orders from the facility and go else where for their components. I too was washed away in the wake of this crazy experience.. but only a year later I've returned to the company to sit down with new president. I got a sweet offer, but i got a first hand glimpse of what manufacturing can do to even to one of the most elite state of the art 100% Mazak with full automation multitasking Multi-Axis shop I've ever had the pleasure of working for. They had to make money so did away with all the crazy Integrex mill turns all either sold or up for sale currently. Millions and millions of dollars invested into that project and more than half was deemed a failure.
    But anyways my old team, we are all now monsters at what we do and bearing through that story i just told gave us the stepping stone we all needed to have crazy careers independent from each other present day. We even tried reassembling which is why I sat down with them again. But none of us wanted to return bc they were now a full scale production facility no longer doing prototyping, high end aerospace work,or gas and oil cash cows, you know big boys and girls only stuff.
    Manufacturing is fun!🙃

    • @Jessie_Smith
      @Jessie_Smith 2 роки тому +1

      That is awesome you guys were able to get to the level of lights out manufacturing. It is unfortunate that you guys had so much talent at the company and it is overshadowed by bad management.

    This is why we need to get 3d printing evolved . There is sooo much wastage. also regarding the coolant so we can see. you can run minimum pressure and low flow. please use it, we can still see. and Id rather your tools lasting more than 1 job!!

  • @MrChevelle83

    Tool load and feed rate are so important on my job as well as SFM chatter is always an issue and you gotta learn how to keep the too pressure correct to keep the cycle time down and the piece count up enough .
    I like the chip piles, My lathe will top off that 55 gallon barrel in a matter of a few minutes under full load! We have a chip pit and make a 20 yard roll off full of chips about every week lol Turning heavy mill rolls for making medium section steel

  • @bluustreak6578

    A small detail, but important:
    I really like how the tool path speeds up around the outter small radii, to keep the chip load constant.
    Mastercam does this, but I haven't seen Fusion360 being able to do it, yet.

      Even haas controllers do this from what I have experienced, but only when using cutter comp. I guess it makes sense though, as the feed of the tool edge remains constant so the tool center has to speed up to keep the edge moving fast enough on outer corners and radii (and slow down for inner ones)

    I'm curious why you didn't chuck that first long Endmill up to the TOF's. Also there's about an inch extra of flute not being used. Just getting that extra length of hangout down would've eliminated any chatter.
