If you were watching this as a kid in the '80s then you are probably one of the few that can appreciate these old school kung fu venom mob movies the shaw brothers were cranking out by the boat load.
It's fun watching that yellow rug at 5:20 get filthier and filthier as it gets re-used in later Shaw Bros movies. In Shaolin Intruders and 8 Diagram Pole Fighter it's almost light brown, it's so dirty.
My childhood memories are filled with Saturday afternoon martial arts movies that still say with me until this day. I will always love Shaw brothers for that❤.
This Is in the Top 5 of the old school kung fu movies Avenging Eagle" is another "Kid with the Golden arm That list goes on and on So many great kung fu movies from the genre
Love the over-the-top sounds in these older flicks. The Shaw Brothers knew how to make it dramatic beyond just the visuals. The sounds in these scenes really complement the martial arts.
5 Deadly Venoms hold up so well! The choreography and story is amazing. When people ask me which kung fu movie they should watch first, I always recommend this one and Five Elements Ninjas.
I was 8 when I watched this. I rushed to the playground afterward to try my new skills. The other kids had no idea how close they came to death that day.
They knew that Toad Was the strongest and most incredibly powerful one of the five. And they knew that Toad was invincible compared to all of them. That's why their punk asses did that to him because they knew they couldn't handle him alone. those cowardly bastards
True kung fu masters showing off their skills and talent. Something we won't see a lot today anymore. Shaw brothers doing a damn good job directing the film and thr stunt people doing at damn good job making them actors look superb!!!
Well...we DO see it today...as far as Jet LI. I know...he MAY be the exception. Of course... Jackie Chan...he is DEFINITELY a master. Jet LI is a master...of course. He was Wushu champion in Beijing for five years IN A ROW. But... you probably already knew that. He was young, by the way... when he won the Wushu championships. But... generally speaking......we don't see so much of today... like you said. Thank you for your comment

Yes ..... indeed a masterpiece.... the Shaw brothers were beyond their time In presenting such an amazing attraction in skills, choreography, talent and a well acrobatic production...Sunday afternoons in 1980 were thrilling moments
Still my all-time favorite martial arts movie of all time. The fact that there are only 3 fight scenes in the whole movie blows my mind. It says a lot about the great plot line.
Best Cult Classic Kung-Fu Movie EVER ! I never understood why this was never made into Anime. Anime artistry, an epic artist who is excellent in that craft combined with these five venoms and a great storyline would go viral instantly. You can even introduce new venoms to become allies or foes against them such as Killer Bee, Tarantula and Komodo Dragon plus others for the list goes on and on such as a Blue Ringed Octopus. Anime is the direct path towards reintroducing 5 Deadly Venom fans and making new fans with a global art form that will send shockwaves.
The 5 Deadly Venoms has always been one of my all time favorites. Saw it as a kid in the 70's. And it was only a few years ago I was able to find it again.
Five Deadly Venoms, The Flying Guillotine, Fearless Fighters, Kid With The Golden Arm, all Classics I used to watch every Saturday afternoon on Kung-fu Theater!
This is why it sucks to be a villain in real life... because you’ll turn on each other. Stay on the right team. Even gang members turn on each other after doing dirt 😁
The scene where Snake is talking to Scorpion, and regretting the murders, and asking "When will it end?", And Scorpion response is "It WILL NEVER END!" "ONCE AN EVIL DEED IS DONE, IT GOES ON FOREVER!" That saying always plays in my mind- how TRUE even from the worst evil enemy, truth comes out of him! And you KNEW that Scorpion WAS EVIL, AND HAD NO SOUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just feel this scene is complete without Toad. He would have had them all down within moments but that's just my opinion. I like how crafty the Scorpion turned out to be, and what a simpleton Centipede really is. Snake redeemed himself by delivering the fatal blow. Style-wise, I prefer the Scorpion's attacks because one of his kicks is enough to paralyze and even kill. Reminds me of Bruce Lee's philosophy about fearing the man who practices a thousand kicks. Overall, this film is a masterpiece, and ahead of its time.
wow, you really read into this movie. When i watched it i was prob only 7 so i was just in awe by the fighting, the sounds and outfits. Think i need to re watch it now that its 40 years later
Don't forget....Because of Lizard's ability to climb and stick to walls, his leg strength was no joke, which I think was overlooked...but Centipede found out the hard way.
This movie is so great due largely to the plot. This final battle was one of only three real fight scenes in the entire movie. Can you name another Shaw Brother's movie with only three fight scenes? Just shows that greatness of the plot and character development in this movie.
Exactly! This is what I tell everyone when the topic of martial Arts movies comes up. Rather than a generic martial Arts movie centered around a good story idea this movie is more of a straight up crime drama with martial Arts fight scenes added in. One of the Shaw brothers best productions!

Me and my brother would watch the show then go outside and commence to whooping each other a$$. Really brings back some great childhood memories.
I like how none of them (except Snake) thought it was weird that while the 4 of them are fighting, Scorpion is just standing there watching. Snake should've called out Scorpion at the very beginning.
Lo Mang, who played “The Toad” in Five Deadly Venoms, was nicknamed “The Shaolin Hercules” because of his muscular physique. Because of his build, Lo was usually cast as incredibly strong characters who used their fists more than they did swords or spears. Lo also had a tendency to play hotheaded and arrogant martial artists. Similar to Sun Chien, Lo played a combination of heroes and villains, but was a protagonist in most of his appearances. Both he and Chien weren’t in as many Venom movies as the other three actors, but did have starring roles in more than ten Venom Mob films. Out of all the Venom Mob members, Lo had the longest and most prolific career after the group’s disbandment. Since leaving Shaw Brothers, Lo has done a great deal of work in both movies and TV in Hong Kong. In what his perhaps his biggest role is recent years is that of monkey style expert Master Law in the last three Ip Man movies with Donnie Yen.
After seeing this movie Saturday night on channel 2's kung fu theater, all the kids were trying to run up the walls at lunch time.lol It's too bad that today's young generation don't have the pleasure of seeing these types of films at the theater, or on television like in the 80's. What a time to remember!
Out of all of the venom mob,Kuo Chui aka Philip Kwok Chow Fung had the most successful career after the Shaw Bros. As a fight choreographer and sometimes actor. He even had a cameo scene in the James Bond movie Tomorrow never Dies. Blink and you'll miss him. He was also the action director.
@@pabzta Yeah it was even tougher getting roles in movies so he ended up in a Korean TV series. He died alone, his wife had already divorced him. I checked out the biography of the venoms last night.
Phillip Kwok (known as Kuo Chui to audiences in the East) was “The Lizard” in the Five Deadly Venoms. The Taiwanese actor was a well-trained martial artist and acrobat with a wide range of skills. In his movies, he was shown to be adept at hand-to-hand combat and acrobatic stunts like back and front flips. He fought with a variety of weapons, but used a staff more than most. Its worth noting that Kwok took center stage in most of the Venom movies. Many of the Venom actors would alternate between hero and villain roles, but Kwok would always play one of the good guys. While some of the Venoms wouldn’t make it to the end of the movie, Kwok’s character would generally be one of the last heroes standing. After the Hong Kong industry shifted away from kung fu movies, Kwok continued acting for quite some time and played Mad Dog in John Woo’s Hard Boiled, a movie where Kwok handled the martial arts choreography.
Seems like a you’re Phillip Kwok fan, Kuo Chui has played a villian he’s the main villian in the Chinatown kid and though he is mostly last sole survivor he has died few times for example his death scene in invincible Shaolin is quite heroic and in life gamble he was outmatched and killed by Lee yi min another sb veteran and a legend of kung fu movies
I'd love it if Toad would have been in this fight, but I understand they had to kill him of, because he was way too powerful. My favourite fighter was number 2 the snake. Because he felt a sense of regret for his action, and I liked his style more.
I like the Scorpion most because he's the last one to reveal himself. And chiefly responsible for toads death. The centipede is the least smartest one, gives himself away too easily.
“The Scorpion” in the Five Deadly Venoms was brought to life by Sun Chien, a Taekwondo master. The martial arts star is best known for his signature high kicks, which were a key element in his fighting style. His impressive kicking techniques helped the Venom Mob deliver some of their most exhilarating action sequences. As for how he would factor into the movies’ stories, Sun was a bit of a wild card. More often than not, he played heroes, but he also had his fair share of villainous roles, including his character in Five Deadly Venoms. There were also movies where his supposedly good-natured character would turn out to be a wicked traitor, which was the situation in both The Kid With the Golden Arm and The Rebel Intruders. Unfortunately, Sun’s characters - including the heroic ones - usually met with tragic ends and sometimes didn’t make it to the final fight.
It's so amazing how these guys trained relentlessly for hours on end to perfect every single move they made during these fight scenes, and got paid mere pennies for it. I once read that they would rehearse every part of these scenes until there entire bodies were covered black and blue with bruises. Today with CGI, almost any bum off the streets can create a fight scene without even working up a sweat
Wow that's sad though but you know Chinese people they work in sweatshops for pennies so I would think that it would have been different in the movies how much pennies are we talking about they were paid for this INCLUDING MY BOY Kuo Chui? How many pennies we talking they were paid for this best kung fu movie ever
Pretty sure fight scenes in live action movies aren't done with CGI, unless you're talking about superhero movies then I can agree, but regular action flicks... They do choreography just like how they did back in the day, and with the John Wick films it seems like there's a desire to go back to the wide screen long shot style of filming with as little cuts and shaky cam as possible just like how they did in these kung fu films back in the day
WHAT??? They weren't paid very much? Really? Shaw Brothers should have known that they had really really skilled individuals to make their film. And... the mere PRACTICING they had to go through! As you said. I am not familiar with the Shaw Brothers film studios... but... certainly DO know that they were a MAJOR STUDIO. How...in this world could they get away with NOT paying these martial artists what they certainly deserved??? Maybe you could tell me. Thank you for your comment
The best martial arts movie ever 😮, never get tired of watching 😮I hope they ever try to remake this especially Quentin Tarantino keep your hands off this masterpiece 😮
True to the point, The five deadly venom s no doubt was obviously a shaw brothers true masterpiece, beautiful astounding choreography of all five styles shown in this clip. Definitely worth the stacks, money renting or buying from netflix, why not just but it so you can peep it on a bad day off from work weather day? You won't go wrong!!!! hell naw!!!
I always thought that this would make an interesting remake. Just take the basic plot, young final student sent on a mission by his dying Master to see what his previous five students are doing and make sure they're not abusing their teachings, and redo and update the rest
@@ScenicFights Netflix's shaw brothers repertoire is limited. However Amazon prime has loads too many to mention but there are some disappointing omissions from the catalogue. Hopefully they'll add these in due course.

The Snakes finger sequence with number 5 is a cinematic classic!!
Yep, tried all of these moves when I was 7 watching this. It's become an instinct when danger is near.
Not only that, but the "five venoms" went on to distinguished careers with the Shaw Brothers. A real go-to troop.
@@debraweaver6308 Its the Hong Kong ethic.

This movie really was a cut above the rest
This film was beautifully choregraphed by Opera member Robert Tai Chi Hsien RIP. And GM Leung Ting disciple of Yip Man.
Excellent fight scenes, no shaky camera.
As a kid in 80's I was ready to fight all my neighborhood friends... and as i watch this in my 50's, I'm exhausted... baaahahaha 🤣

One of the greatest movie ever along with five elements, the crippled avengers and all Shaw Bros movies
True to the
point,
The five deadly venom s no doubt was obviously a shaw brothers true masterpiece, beautiful astounding choreography of all five styles shown in this clip. Definitely worth the stacks, money renting or buying from netflix, why not just but it so you can peep it on a bad day off from work weather day? You won't go wrong!!!! hell naw!!!
I always thought that this would make an interesting remake. Just take the basic plot, young final student sent on a mission by his dying Master to see what his previous five students are doing and make sure they're not abusing their teachings, and redo and update the rest
i was 9 yrs old when this came out and one of my fav movies of all time]
I just love this epic fight scene. After I saw it I saw the Lizard style.
