Just a season ago, I considered Darrell Taylor to be one of the rising stars in the NFL. After consistently winning his matchups off the edge, Taylor seemed to have the whole package as a pass rusher. He could win outside with speed, inside on a spin move, and he had the ability to bull rush a blocker if neither of those moves were working. These high-quality traits made me very bullish for his future. Unfortunately, his 2022 season has not gone well. His pressure rate has gone down significantly and his moves have been much less effective.
In this video, I wanted to see what was happening to Taylor. Is it the new defensive scheme under Clint Hurtt that the Seattle Seahawks are running? Or is Taylor doing something different than last year that’s causing him to fall in pressure rate?

It's a little encouraging to see that he can improve with better technique but also looks like his responsibility in new scheme has caused him to lose what he was good at
Im glad to see an analysis of a decline in play, I find that equally, if not more interesting than impressive performances. Also would love a video that looks into the Fangio scheme!
do more videos on schemes and regressed/improved players, valuable info here
I always look forward to Sam's videos. This dude is elite. Great work as usual
Any way you could do a film breakdown on Anthony Richardson Jr? I'm intrigued in what he is as a prospect
Awesome vídeo! Can we see something about Abe Lucas season?
Sam.......Kinda seems like an inability to dial in his timing and transition from a two or three step quick twitch power move to a four or five step move where he needs to convert speed (as opposed to quickness) to power. Similar to a very fast inline speed receiver who can't change direction and maintain speed?
Thanks for taking the time to do this. I notice Nwosu has similar splits/alignment to Taylor but significantly more effective. Is Nwosu just more technically sound? Did you compare with Nwosu at all? (Aside from when there is a TE chip of course.)
Nwosu has better hips and strength which allows him to not just be a speedster that gets held up or takes himself out the play
I think part of it might also be that Nwosu is more familiar with a 3-4 scheme
Me looking at Barton
He now has 9.5 sacks
Also, pretty much all of those plays you were showing the QBs were getting the ball off before anyone would be able to get there. That's a plus for him.
Kam is a great pass rush. took out O-lineman and tackle the running back. Taylor, O-lineman/tie-end will bull rush him 10yrd down field.
They’re stunting him WAY too much
To me looks like a coaching problem
Coach benched him for a game then he lit it up
he'll need to play special teams to stay with the team
Either he can turn it around or he'll be playing for elsewhere in 2023
why is our front 7 terrible?
Our D Line sucks ass because our rotations are garbage and our dudes rarely ever find a way to get off to a hot start together. They rarely work as a unit unless its a time where they finally have a specific lineup in the game. We suck. Idk why we made Clint Hurtt our defensive coordinator and all the players must have lied about liking him because look how they are playing 😂😂😂 Dude needs to be fired for how shitty they are. Not entirely his fault its a lot on the players too. Diggs is washed, the rest are just young and barely gettin started
@@rig2037 I know you feel dumb now
Dang. Pitts pancaked him
Taylor and Diggs are a disappointment to me this year
So basically he forgot how to play from last year. Not good.
This is why Clint Hurt has been a bust. He did nothing to develop the defensive line, both in pass rush and run stops throughout his stint at D Line coach. Since taking the helm as Coordinator the issues under Norton have become worse. I was willing to give him a chance, but my initial concerns have been proven right.
He is bouncing off olinemans and even TEs like a little kid.
Him and Jordyn Brooks are TWINS in that regard. Motherfuckers are just out there to be crash dummies and not much else 😂😂 Its unfortunate. I thought these dudes were suppose to be our future and now I can hardly say I even want them to be on the team next season..
