He's not getting paid by WWE or AEW, nor does he have any official affiliation to any of those or other major wrestling companies in the world. I watch 0 wrestling and still listen to Cornette every week. I feel like I watch vicariously through him, anyway. His descriptions of AEW matches and my imagination are better than the actual match, from what I've seen.

One of the worst modern attitudes is the idea that any criticism of a person or an idea has to be insincere because you disagree with them and can’t imagine someone thinking differently. The fact that these cosplay prancing gymnasts convince themselves that no one could really hate what they do and people who say they do are just attention seeking is mind boggling.
Imagine looking at Jim with all of his knowledge and history in the business and just blaming his criticism on attention seeking.

Cornette has a great wrestling mind, arguably the best in the business but there is a reason he isn't in the wrestling business anymore and despite what he says, it isn't by choice.

And no, not a Omega fan. Not into that whole acrobatic style of wrestling, which is why I can still barely stomach listening to Cornette. Other than that, Cornette has no redeeming qualities about him.

It's not butthurt, it's more about Jim's fans harassing wrestlers online and in real life. The constant death threats and racist tirades against the Japanese talent isn't ok.
Jim fosters and encourages this, with his constant violent imagery and wishing death and dismemberment on the wrestlers who didn't want to work with him.
These days this is a real problem, the amount of psychos out there shooting up schools and grocery stores and nonsense, the death threats have to be taken seriously.
I can guarantee you not a single wrestler alive today gives a fuck about Jim's "critiques". That isn't what this was about.

I went to Japan in 2018, at an arcade in Tokyo one of the attendants (who was probably between 25-30 years old) was talking to me about wrestling because I was wearing a Bullet Club t-shirt. He told me the young bucks are jabroni jobbers basically which I found hilarious cause thats how they always came across to me when I was watching NJPW, yet for some reason in the west people thought they were over lmao. Good to hear Brian's heard the same thing from a Japanese wrestling historian.
So any idea what the disconnect was? If Japanese there didn't find them over was it just Meltzer and the American fanbase that pumped them up in translation? Honestly curious.
@@brianmilici3473 I dont know if its changed or not cause I dont keep up with IWC anymore, but it was quite common for people to say they watch NJPW or Japanese wrestling. When in reality they basically watched clips of matches and not the actual shows ,Meltzer's ratings and the way the bucks said they were over. Kenny was over to an extent when he was leader of the Bullet Club the Bucks were basically his from what I remember (I stopped following NJPW as much once AJ Styles left), also Kenny being over wasnt due to himself he took over as leader of an established over faction, he didnt really grow the audience in that role compared to AJ

Its important to keep in mind that Jim has always been biased about Omega ever since the ROH incident which everyone now knows was miss communication. The 9 yo girl stuff too. So no matter what he does whether its good or bad, he is always gonna not like it or outright hate it. Jim's own cohost admitted that Jim's biased about Omega on this podcast multiple times. Same goes for why he doesn't like Ethan Page even though he is awesome in every way.

It’s no coincidence that AEW got better when Punk & Bryan came in and FTR & MJF got a big push while Omega & the Bucks were de-emphasized
Omega was injured. The tag division was dragging so the bucks won it back and Jurassic express had to split up to maintain star power.
Its simple most of the modern talent never got to work with veterans who would tell them to slow down, to work a body part and to put a match together that looked like it wasn't phony and like the opponents were cooperating. So the best of this generation studied tapes of the best wrestlers and tried to understand the psychology behind the actions. The worst of this generation fell in love with wrestling because of cool spots. So indie wrestling became a trade off of cool moves to impress an audience instead of getting over by telling a physical story of struggle, of being the underdog and fighting and getting the crowd on your side and winning etc. Go back and look at any match with Benoit Eddie or malenko even their drop downs look like they were trying to take the opponents out. Since it looks so obviously fake now it will never grow beyond its niche because the average person can see a better performance in movies, so they won't waste time watching.
Pretty spot on. Guys like HBK though as a kid in high school studied the psychology of the matches they were watching. These guys could have done the same but I think you're right they spend all their time on cool moves in the ring instead of great stories which require pacing and selling and building.
I have been more excited for Jim's response to Omega than anything in pro wrestling in the past since MJF left..
I live near Norfolk, VA and literally every guy over 35 knows who Jim is. He is still a way bigger star than Kenny.

The issue with Kenny is that he believes he’s above any criticism. Yeah he made his name over in Japan, became a huge star and had the likes of Meltzer rubbing his feet after giving him 6-7 star ratings like a kid in art class. In the grand scheme of things, none of that matters. The only thing Kenny has to show for it is his broken body. Some people thought he would become a bigger star in the states but that’s been proven otherwise and I think Omega along with the Bucks realize that they’re slowly becoming irrelevant. You can’t blame Cornette for that happening. People are just getting sick of the foolishness and lameness with them and just want something different.

I started watching wrestling in 1971-1972 at the age of 4 or 5. I was in Chicagoland so I saw AWA as well as Lucha Libre (in Spanish with no subtitles) on a UHF channel when the weather permitted. In the early 80s cable TV gave me WWF, WCCW, and GCW. I stopped watching in the early 2000s, basically after Vince botched the WCW invasion angle. I've tried NWA, LU (God help me), MLW, Impact, and even a few torturous minutes of AEW. I also worked in the Indies 1999-2006 in various capacities. I've been privileged enough to talk to some legends and to have seen a few of my friends and acquaintances make the big time (I won't drop names, but they're bigger than Kenny!). Omega is a loopy, self-important, parasitic twatwaffle feasting on the corpse of professional wrestling and I'll debate him on wrestling psychology and history any day of the week.

On a diff episode, when referring to Austin and Attitude Era WWE guys, Corny said, “it appeared real when you watched those guys on television because IT WAS REAL TO THEM, and therefore it became real to us”. Nothing has better encapsulated exactly what is missing from today’s wrestling scene than that comment.

I caught that too. Omega works in an industry he knows nothing about. Most people have a basic understanding of the field in which they work.

The whole business was more significant than an isolated person like Omega clearly knows nothing about. The territories were huge in the 80s, and companies drew way more money and had a broader fan base than wrestling today, even with all the exposure.

Kenny assumes people who listen to Jim agree 100% with everything he says. Some things I agree with, some things I strongly disagree with, other things I disagree with but I see where he's coming from. We're not all the mindless sheep Omega thinks we are.
It's not everyone that's for sure, the "Cornette cult" is what i believe he called them is just a really loud minority. I don't listen to Cornette regularly but still I know what he was talking about because this smaller group is everywhere talking about what he said and making death treaths to whoever Jim makes a comment on.

Kenny’s point was that the large majority will go out of their way to attack anyone Jim has an a less than positive opinion on. They don’t think for themselves and do exactly what I just said. Even if you’re not a part of the heard, it doesn’t mean the heard doesn’t exist.
I disagree about it being a large majority, but yes I can believe it does happen. I think though, even in some of those cases, these are people who don't like the modern product anyway; Cornette doesn't necessarily influence them, they just steal his script in terms of articulating their displeasure.
For the record though, as someone who was lukewarm about him, Omega has (mostly) won me over. Some of Corny's criticism is still valid though.

The vast wrestling market are actually manipulatable overseas foreign markets that will eat up anything marketing executives calculate can be sold most. WWE dwarfs all other wrestling combined and they do it by give zero effs about western wrestling fans including anything cornhole says. The reason WWE will never lose the wrestling market is because they aren't a wrestling company. They are a money making company. Whatever will make money with the largest groups of people is what they will create. With zero regard for anything about wrestling.

When it was at its height most people were not sure if it was real or fake. Its never getting there again because everyone knows the behind the scene stuff and it’s impossible to keep secrets nowadays. Max a wrestling show would get today is 3 or 4 million views which would be a miracle. Neither kenny omega or aew is the reason wrestling is at its lowest.

This is the guy who got offended when Jim Ross didn't say Omega was his favorite wrestler. Then a bunch of AEW wrestlers hashtagged "IStandWithOmega" as if Omega was being persecuted.
Not that long ago, Jim Ross used to be one of the most optimistic voices in wrestling. 3 years announcing with AEW and dealing with the bucks/omega camp and it’s just killed his love for the business. They don’t get better, they refuse any constructive criticism, and they have their friends bury JR on twitter for not spreading the Meltzer doctrine. It’s sad to hear in him so checked out nowadays.

100% true. I have to give Meltz credit for getting me into Japanese wrestling but his more recent obsession with no psychology gimmick flippy matches has really harmed American wrestling. Thankfully with the YB not in New Japan anymore I can enjoy it without having to sit through a 20 minute everyone stands around waiting to be superkicked match.

I think the internet journalists made fans more miserable overall by spoiling every detail of every angle before they even air live. Imagine how much of the 80’s wrestling world suck if you knew every finish or twist before it happened? Modern fans tend to hyper critique everything or go in with their minds made up before they experience the matches. You can only do that so long until you stop enjoying the tv/PPVs altogether.
