So he just admitted that a good chunk of the AEW locker room listens to Cornette and are avoiding doing stupid stuff on TV so Jim doesn't drag them? Well, seems like mission accomplished.
What a idiot The worst thing you can tell your "enemies" is that you are afraid of what they could say about you or that you are watching their moves worried. The funniest part its that by preventing Jim's rage it means they think he is right that moderns sh*t sucks and are trying to get on his good side. Kenny assumes people who listen to Jim agree 100% with everything he says. Some things I agree with, some things I strongly disagree with, other things I disagree with but I see where he's coming from. We're not all the mindless sheep Omega thinks we are.
It's not everyone that's for sure, the "Cornette cult" is what i believe he called them is just a really loud minority. I don't listen to Cornette regularly but still I know what he was talking about because this smaller group is everywhere talking about what he said and making death treaths to whoever Jim makes a comment on.
Kenny’s point was that the large majority will go out of their way to attack anyone Jim has an a less than positive opinion on. They don’t think for themselves and do exactly what I just said. Even if you’re not a part of the heard, it doesn’t mean the heard doesn’t exist.
I disagree about it being a large majority, but yes I can believe it does happen. I think though, even in some of those cases, these are people who don't like the modern product anyway; Cornette doesn't necessarily influence them, they just steal his script in terms of articulating their displeasure.
I watch 0 wrestling and still listen to Cornette every week. I feel like I watch vicariously through him, anyway. His descriptions of AEW matches and my imagination are better than the actual match, from what I've seen.
yeah it used to mainly be wrestling but now its slowly just becoming one of those ... buglight lefty catering podcasts ... kinda like H3. Becoming Therapeutic for some ... and basically uninteresting for the rest.
I caught that too. Omega works in an industry he knows nothing about. Most people have a basic understanding of the field in which they work. Kenny doesn't appear to know anything about wrestling from before he started wrestling
The whole business was more significant than an isolated person like Omega clearly knows nothing about. The territories were huge in the 80s, and companies drew way more money and had a broader fan base than wrestling today, even with all the exposure.

He's mad at Kenny for doing comedy spots, but he managed during the Era of Doink, & midget matches 😂. Wrestling is constantly evolving who knows maybe it'll go back to whatever Jim's preference is.
The irony is that Jim's POV on modern wrestling is honestly objective. He's not getting paid by WWE or AEW, nor does he have any official affiliation to any of those or other major wrestling companies in the world. This is the guy who got offended when Jim Ross didn't say Omega was his favorite wrestler. Then a bunch of AEW wrestlers hashtagged "IStandWithOmega" as if Omega was being persecuted.

One of the last great wrestling managers. Cornette is a pro wrestling icon & it's a damn shame the WWE didn't do a video program on him & his entire career.

you really think most of the wrestling fan base (a niche community in itself) consists of people who listen to podcasts ? or you think there is a huge market for old school wrestling. Which is why nwa 2.0 did such great numbers when it came out right ?
The vast wrestling market are actually manipulatable overseas foreign markets that will eat up anything marketing executives calculate can be sold most. WWE dwarfs all other wrestling combined and they do it by give zero effs about western wrestling fans including anything cornhole says. 100% true. I have to give Meltz credit for getting me into Japanese wrestling but his more recent obsession with no psychology gimmick flippy matches has really harmed American wrestling. Thankfully with the YB not in New Japan anymore I can enjoy it without having to sit through a 20 minute everyone stands around waiting to be superkicked match.
I think the internet journalists made fans more miserable overall by spoiling every detail of every angle before they even air live. Imagine how much of the 80’s wrestling world suck if you knew every finish or twist before it happened? Modern fans tend to hyper critique everything or go in with their minds made up before they experience the matches. You can only do that so long until you stop enjoying the tv/PPVs altogether.
I never missed am episode of Raw from 1996 to 2017, and I was sick of the product by 2008. Listening to Corney is about as close to watching wrestling as I'll ever get again.
One of the worst modern attitudes is the idea that any criticism of a person or an idea has to be insincere because you disagree with them and can’t imagine someone thinking differently. The fact that these cosplay prancing gymnasts convince themselves that no one could really hate what they do and people who say they do are just attention seeking is mind boggling. Imagine looking at Jim with all of his knowledge and history in the business and just blaming his criticism on attention seeking.
I mean, Cornette is exactly who you're describing. Cornette has a great wrestling mind, arguably the best in the business but there is a reason he isn't in the wrestling business anymore and despite what he says, it isn't by choice. Jim Cornette lost any credibility with me. He throws tantrums, and then accuses others of doing the same when they respond. And no, not a Omega fan. Not into that whole acrobatic style of wrestling, which is why I can still barely stomach listening to Cornette. Other than that, Cornette has no redeeming qualities about him.
Corny roast Olivier, and Olivier gets pissed off. Olivier tries to clap back, and Corny laughs. Corny is basically Bugs Bunny, and Olivier is Marvin the Martian.

I just love how Kenny always has to extend his vitriol towards Cornette's listeners... wrestling fans. If he doesnt agree with Corney, that's fine, he's entitled to his opinion, but the reality is that he hasn't/can't/isnt willing to debate the often valid points Jim presents. He ALWAYS resorts to punching down and attacking Jim's listeners, who dont have a platform, from the safety of his Twitch. It's honestly pathetic. I really have never hated Kenny the way Jim does. I really liked his New Japan run, I'm really not offended by most of his in ring work or his character, heck I'm a gamer too so I actually liked a lot of his "fighting game character" presentation. I personally like ~most~ of his serious matches. But seriously, the dude thinks he's immune to criticism, and he is such a THIN SKINNED CHILD. Let's be honest, Jim Cornette has been around Pro Wrestling during the time it was considered "believable" and "acceptable". He is considered one of the greats. I do not blame him for getting upset over Twinkle toes, the young bucks, and pockets for making something that most people believed and enjoyed, obviously fake. That’s an interesting take. I grew up with wrestling too, beginning with WWF, NWA and AWA in the early 80s. Nearly every adult in my life told me it was ridiculous and obviously fake, and I don’t remember it being taken seriously or having any mainstream credibility even back then. If anything, it was even more ridiculed back then as a product only meant for children and uneducated ‘hillbilly’ adults.

@@maxxdahl6062 yes they were. Tell me structurally how they're different. Especially the small promotions settled between the NWA members or in locations where they were not present. Kenny’s legacy in new japan was the matches with okada and, one or two good matches with naito and a very good match with tanahashi. His title reign was abysmal, he was fit to be the quick, athletic guy that hits moves that look somewhat cool to pose a threat to the champion but that’s it, he should’ve never been a world champion
And those okada matches have potentially fucked his body up for life. It’s gonna be interesting to see if kenny changes his in ring style when he returns.
I was at my highest NJPW following during that time, so I remember those days pretty well. Tbh, looking back I think the problem was that New Japan tried to extend the thing way too much, with the Dominion match ending in a draw, then the G1 match, then Omega going on to the Jericho feud while Okada had a feud with Naito at WK and then the Jay White/Gedo thing. This while at the same time doing the entire Cody vs Kenny Bullet Club friction thing ft. Kota Ibushi that then became an Elite (by Elite I mean Omega, Bucks, Cody, Marty, Hangman and those guys) vs BC OG (GOD, Fale, etc.) when Omega was IWGP Heavyweight Champion. And I was a fan of them and still kind of am now (more of a Jericho guy now, but still). You had a 1000 things done over the course of a year when it could've probably been better imo if Omega had won the title at Dominion and then dropped it to Naito at WK before moving on to the BC friction story and end it up with the Jericho match (this in a time when the guys were so over you would see lots of BC shirts in WWE crowds). But I guess it worked well for them having their own company now, so...
it all comes from Omega's need for approval by Cornette - one of the greatest wrestling minds ever. I'm speculating, but if Cornette were to give Omega approval for something in the business, then Omega would probably feel validated, like "The greatest manager next to Bobby Heenan said X about me." But that approval will never come.
@Why The Hell Was I In Star Trek 6? usually Corny not playing well with others is the problem, not his talent. No question Jim has his problems but it doesn't mean anything he's criticized Omega and the Bucks for is inaccurate.
Good point about Omega only being on tv in America for 3 years and he's almost 40 lol. Not a mainstream star at all. Meanwhile, Cornette was on tv is his early 20s. Maybe not a fair comparison because the business is different now than it was in the 80s but it still is what it is.
It’s interesting to consider. The territories in a sense would make it seem easier for a young person to get into the business but then you consider how guarded it was in that timeframe. Compared to now there aren’t many options to go to.
The mere fact that I am here listening to Jim and not watching wrestling, a sport I loved as a kid and still love to watch back, says everything about what wrestling has become. I and millions of others spend more time listening to guys talk about wrestling than we do watching the damn thing. It's the fault of promotions and wrestlers who don't take their job seriously enough to understand that if you make wrestling into a goddamn joke that there's no reason to watch it! The ratings tell you everything you need to know. Most people who used to watch wrestling don't any more, but instead of thinking of ways to bring those people back in guys like Omega can only insult them.
You could watch wrestling and enjoy it, it isn't hard. But since you have to have your opinion told to you by dollar store bobby Heenan here, I guess you won't let that happen.
A lot of you whine and moan but you never really indicate what makes a complete good show or wrestler. You guys watch an old guy pick apart things other people are creating by comparing it to things he did in the 80s and, I guess, would redo, again, so you guys can clap like a child seeing keys jingle. The fact so many don't question Cornette on anything and just agree isn't more than a cult. One guy said he watched this video 3 times. People like Omega brought countless people back to wrestling like me. I stopped watching in the 90s and came back 2017 through him and Okada. You can thank the stuff that happened in the US in the last 20 years and the overll death of cable TV for the lower viewership. Beside that Wrestling from AEW and WWE tops the ratings nearly every week, so Wrestling is far from being dead, its just that people dont give a fuck about TV anymore thanks to streaming.

I disagree about it being a large majority, but yes I can believe it does happen. The fact that Kenny and the AEW roster gets so butthurt over what Jim says is hilarious. Love listening to clips like these. Brightens my day!
It's not butthurt, it's more about Jim's fans harassing wrestlers online and in real life. The constant death threats and racist tirades against the Japanese talent isn't ok.
Jim fosters and encourages this, with his constant violent imagery and wishing death and dismemberment on the wrestlers who didn't want to work with him.
These days this is a real problem, the amount of psychos out there shooting up schools and grocery stores and nonsense, the death threats have to be taken seriously.
I can guarantee you not a single wrestler alive today gives a fuck about Jim's "critiques". That isn't what this was about.
@@UnexpectedDanger Not sure where the school shootings fit into this but okay. Jim, just like everyone else is allowed to have an opinion. Kenny just seems to take what Jim says way too seriously and he really shouldn’t. The only wrestlers who clearly give a fuck about the “critiques” are the AEW stans.

Does Omega really think the territories were indies? Does he think more people watch wrestling now than any other decade? I liked the 2016-2019 Omega run in NJPW, but is he really trying to talk down to lapses fans because they’re not interested in him now? I don’t understand the base of his point of view here.
The territories were the indies of their day as well as being the main show.
Indies only really matter when there is a national player or a confederated league that's dominant.
@@suranae The territories weren't the indies of their day. lol. Dumbest thing I've ever read. They were the BIG time in every place they were at.
@@maxxdahl6062 yes they were.
Tell me structurally how they're different. Especially the small promotions settled between the NWA members or in locations where they were not present.
The emphasis on indie, outlaw, NWA is niche of niche.
Technically the WWE is an "outlaw" promotions.
Vince Jr pulled out of the NWA entirely then ran the member promotions out of their own territory by going national.
@@suranae Outlaw promotions were the indies of their day. The territories were the WWE and AEW of their day, except about 100 times more successful.
@@suranae No one ever sees an indie promotion as if it were number 1. Everyone saw their 80's territory as number 1. The territories had the best talent they could get, and regularly got more, indies get backyard trained, untrained, uncharasmatic talent. They. Were. Not. Indies. The random outlaw promotions like the poffo's ICW would have been the indies back then. And no WWE wasn't seen as an outlaw, it was it's own, big time territory before the expansion. You really don't know what you're talking about, but you're trying to sound as if you do.
Damn. This is one Corny's best promos in a while. Brian got him too. Maybe Twinketoes will keep his mouth shut from now on, lol.
The Naito matches were some of the best of all time.
"I've spent more time in wrestler locker rooms than you've been alive"

it all comes from Omega's need for approval by Cornette - one of the greatest wrestling minds ever. I'm speculating, but if Cornette were to give Omega approval for something in the business, then Omega would probably feel validated, like "The greatest manager next to Bobby Heenan said X about me." But that approval will never come.
@Why The Hell Was I In Star Trek 6? He worked for more than one company. LMAO.
@Why The Hell Was I In Star Trek 6? that's hyperbole. He has been fired but not by "every company he worked for".
He did gave Omega abit of credit with his highly anticipated match with Daniel Bryan.
@Why The Hell Was I In Star Trek 6? 🤦
Corny was a booker for wcw in his late twenties and started his own promotion at 29!
It’s interesting to consider. The territories in a sense would make it seem easier for a young person to get into the business but then you consider how guarded it was in that timeframe. Compared to now there aren’t many options to go to.
Honestly if it wasn't for Cornette I personally would have never heard of Omega.
Tv in the last 10 years hasn’t been on fire like tv in the 80s or 90s let alone the last 5 years
I'm a simple man. I see Jim Cornette do a 40 minute rant on Kenny Omega, I click play.

It's obvious that Kenny Omega absolutely 💯 "does not" care about the wrestling business as an actual product. He just wants to have fun, and make wrestling fun 😝
I've never in my time as a wrestling junkie heard a professional wrestler at Kenny's age say he was going to hang it up if he has another injury.
The guy is a stunt artist, and won't be able to do that much longer... if ever again.
Luckily for him Tony Kahn will keep giving him cash to work in the back of AEW, and continue the horrible booking they have half of the time.
Respectfully, I disagree. I dont think that Olivier & Co. want to just have fun. Because they take their stuff seriously, they think they are awesome. And as a result they have made the wrestling business a joke. I wasn’t alive when Hogan, Flair etc were active, but I believe that during that time it was easier to explain why you are a wrestling fan. Now it’s a shame to admit that you like wrestling because it’s the shit.

As is NWA and MC Hammer. And who would just watch one wrestler rather than the whole product.
@@coyotedynamic3048 Ridiculous. It's easy to invent evidence that you can't prove exists. The real facts are that from its peak in the late 90s and early 2000s, professional wrestling has lost well over 90% of its audience. These are facts. Do you think that's because those people just simply grew up and stopped watching or do you think it's because the quality of the product has gone down significantly?
I'll give you a clue. I watched wrestling every single show there was from mid 1993 until 2016. I stopped watching because it sucked. I watched the first few episodes of AEW because I was excited that we might have another big promotion but it was God awful. I tuned in again when CM Punk came back and Danielson came back because I thought they might save it and they did increase the quality a little bit. At least when they were on TV and others like MJF were on it was good and it was watchable. Now that those people are gone however I think it's pretty clear that AEW, the vast majority of anyway, sucks.
Even the most hard-core aew fans have to come.to a point where they have to be somewhat conscious of so many of these guys and their constant inability to accept any criticism at all. They literally lash out at anyone who dare not praise them
