Undeniably, a gorgeous uke to look at . But I think, if one uses Rosewood on the back and sides which kind of scoops the midrange, you need a softer wood top which would add some fullness. I especially like Rosewood with a Red Cedar top. Maple is hard and produces a very direct sound like a dart . . . at least to me. A Maple top with a Rosewood back and sides is quite an unusual combination. I agree, offer an option without a pickup.
@@nickiemcnichols5397 I rarely plug in these days so I wouldn't want to pay for something I wouldn't use. Plus when I DO install a pickup, I prefer a clean passive
The thing about sunburst is that the elements that make for a beautifully voiced soundboard-relatively even and tight grain-don’t have the flame and patterns that make for interesting eye candy. Sunburst finishes solve this by adding visual variety to what would otherwise be plain wood patterning. My hands are large enough that I do not need the “scoop,” although it does contribute to the beauty. Ditto the skunk stripe; Fender introduced these to embellish how they install their truss rods, and it is incongruous on a tenor that neither has nor needs a truss rod … yet it is pretty. I am with you on the EQ-I like either a passive or a Mi-Si with my EQ controls on the floor or the amp. What Flight uses is better than the square box in a cutout, but still a nonstarter for me. A pretty instrument, but the EQ-and the fact that I am currently broke as a joke-will keep me from acquiring one.
Thanks for the review. Love the T shirt, one of my fave bands of the 90’s saw them loads. Really nice uke, quite a looker, great wood choice. Another Flight that gets you looking straight away, a lot of accomplishments and does sound lovely. Just hope their QC doesn’t cost the specialist stores too much time getting them ready for playing as am sure they will sell. Have a great week.

@@GotAUkulele Just informed my wife, I need a new T shirt from a gig. To see the T shirt brought back great times, seeing great bands at a great time. Thanks.
I love a burst of any colour, so attractive! But I also generally prefer the top to be stained in some colour any colour really (except for mango, that’s a very very attractive looking wood). Thanks for your review!
I love Flight and own 3 of them but the most recent purchase, a Nighthawk tenor, arrived with the bridge peeling off the body on both sides, enough that I could slide a coin under! I was worried it might pop off under tension. Hopefully they tighten up their QC because they make great ukes otherwise
Like with the Luna brand, the Flight brand certainly makes some pretty looking ukulele. They do not all sound as pretty as they look but Flight definitely makes very pretty ukulele. This one is no different. It is indeed a thing of beauty except for the neck I agree. I too prefer those kind of pickups. Excellent review as always.
A lovely instrument. I get what you're saying about the brightness, etc. especially with a tenor, but despite that, it really does sound great doesn't it?
I like sunburst, but would certainly look for a more golden sunburst, (like Rickenbacker’s fireglo on their guitars), over the tobacco style. Also would prefer it completely acoustic, though the electronics would not be a dealbreaker, I would just never use the pickup.
Hi Barry, Navigator looks amazing but... anyway, Fireball still rocks, there's no doubt about it. As for the strings - in my opinion, the Worth strings are not as good as they are expected to be, I tried them on many ukes and eventually replaced them with Fremont or d'Addario carbon strings. Thank you for your review, best regards!
I agree bursts are very attractive as well I don't want to pay for the electronics for me the worth strings to light for me I'm a bit heavy handed but that a easy fix very pretty but I wouldn't buy it awesome review 🏝️💪
Much different from the comet which I have and l9ve as a stage instrument? But looking for a recording uke for home. Just sold my l luthier le maho. Was tempted by the koa s. Thoughts?
@@alanwhitney3263 Well often a G string change needs some setup tweaking though? Did you cut the nut back as if buzzing sounds like it may have been too much. If not you can try a tiny square of folded cig paper in the nut slot to raise
This is so useful. I could very easily have been tempted by its beautiful looks….but too jangly for me. Scruffy…..poor Matt at World of Ukes spends hours cleaning and setting up Flight ukes. ☹️
@@nickiemcnichols5397 Is it covered up though? I can see the grain all over it and the burst enhances it. Without the stain it would just be very pale yellow all over?
Mines being delivered Wednesday. 😊
Hope you enjoy it!

Why not have a pickup? Am I missing something?

Agree with all that. Have a luthier build that I specced a skunk stripe in myself - not to hide anything, just because I like the look!
Thank you !
You're welcome!

Some belters to start the year with Baz this one is something else 👍

The extra money may well be due to the woods used, solid rosewood and maple 🍁?! Nice review! 😊
Possibly, but the Carabo is £100 less and mango isn't cheap either
Fare point!
Thanks Barry. It’s a beautiful instrument. I would like it better in baritone though. And the sunburst works for me too!
Thanks for listening

The brightness works for me. I am also fine with the pickup. How to fix fretboard?
Just needs a rub with some 0000 wire wool

Same here. I'm not happy with Worth Brown. I use Hannabach Goldin or Uke Logic Soft Tension (with wound C String).
Would changing it to lo
G tuning calm the tone down a bit?
Probably would a bit

Absolutely!

Personal choice! All the L luthier ukes are sublime
What? No fret marker at the third fret?
I'm always confused with that. I expect the first fret marker at fret 5.... 😂
Never felt the need for one at the third
KoAloha doesn’t have a third position fret dot either. I like having them but it’s not a deal killer for me.
Not for me, I find Flight necks too chunky, and I have no need of electronics, but looks-wise? Mouthwatering!
Fair enough!
Just needs a low G for me 👌
You are not the first to say that. Easily swapped
Made that mistake with my Snail Tenor, really struggling to play it tbh even though I can play sopranos, concerts etc

I disagree with you. This sunburst gives me nothing. Not for me.
Fair enough - subjective thing
