    Thanks for this video. Back in the early 90's I got to work for a surveyor near Brisbane Qld. Had an amazing time and experience. I remember re-establishing boundary lines. Especially one to the NW of Brisbane, I went down with tick fever and had fun with Jumping ants.
    Then time I was clearing a sight line with my trusty Bush Hook and a bloody praying mantis landed on my shoulder. The surveyor wet himself watching me do the Pommy Dance.
    I returned to England and trained as a surveyor and have been for nearly 30 years. Thanks for the video again.

    Hi, i've been working as a Land Surveyor/ Surveying technician in Germany for almost 6 years now, using the same Leica GS18, Leica Station etc. as seen in the video. Would you mind answering a few questions, since i am interested in working in a different country.
    Are you a technician or Engineer? I did a 3 year dual vocational training to become a surveying technician, i did not go to university and become a Surveyor (Engineer).
    How much is the average salary for a surveying technician in Australia?
    Is there a need for surveying technicians in or around Australian Cities like Sydney, Melbourne etc.?

      Hi. Yes there is a shortage of Surveyors in Australia. Perhaps its the same overseas? I'm not sure what a technician gets paid because it depends on the type of work they are doing and they are also limited to certain roles. But I imagine a pay of up to 100K is possible. If you work on construction sites or in the mines, you can probably be paid a lot ofmoney. I'm a Registered Land Surveyor so I'm able to any type of work. I primarily do surveying related to property boundaries.

      Hi. As I work for myself I tend to work odd hours but like any job its about an 8hr day. Pay can be very good based on your skills and education. The best thing to do start a course in Surveying and get some work experience. Where are you based?

    Stupid question but what sort of grades do you need in high school to be a surveyor

    • @globalsurveyor
      @globalsurveyor  5 місяців тому

      Hi. Not a silly question. Its important to have a understanding of Maths however if based in Australia you can start out going to TAFE and doing a certificate leading to a Diploma of Surveying - and no grades needed to start the course and then progress to the uni degree if you want to. Many people with diplomas work for surveying firms and undertaking tasks relevant to the qualifications. If you have a uni dgree you'll be given more complex work and more pay! If you want to go to TAFE then passing high school is good enough. If you want to go to uni --- aim for higher marks.... to conclude - you can always work for a few years and the return to study after you understand more!

      I'm being honest here - but unless you want to do setout the rest of your life you need a degree. That being said it's not a difficult course to get into compared to say medicine or law, or even engineering. An 80% average is enough in Western Australia.
