Yes. So why the hell are private investors the ones reaping all the benefit while they purposely flood the system with morals, dogma, and God to motivate their slaves? Thanks for the video, very informative. Can you please make a longer video that shows more about what "mining" life is? The work you do, the rosters, the usual food, to expect etc. Cheers.
Work you do: very dependent on the role you've got. Most people start off in a big ass truck hauling loads of dirt up and down long drive ways, literally for 12-hours. Rosters: depends on the mine. Most entry-level mining roles will be 2 weeks on, 1 week off. That means 1x a week of night shift, 1x a week of day shift, 1x a week off back home. You may get lucky with 1 week on and off, or 2 weeks on and off. It's rare that "miners" (rather than office staff, engineers, geologists) would be on an 8 days on 6 days off roster. Food: Again, very variable based on the contractor. Expect lots of staple veggies, roast meats, roast chicken thighs, and curries. Breakfast is a traditional hot-and-cold affair similar to any buffet breaky you get at a 3-4 star hotel. Your lunch (crib) is usually cold meats, salads, fruits, and servo quality pies you can stick in an oven when on-site. Accom: not usually in a motel like this. Usually you have small rooms with a basic bed, bar fridge, shower, and toilet inside. To be honest, you won't want more than that - you'll be asleep soon after calling home anyway. A lot of camps will also have a communal bar and gym too. Bars only serve mid-strength drinks, and you're usually only allowed 4 per day.
Never worked for Fifo, but I used to work for a company that handled resets and remodels for stores like lowes, walmart, and O'rileys, and sometimes we would be on the road for weeks at a time. I didn't have kids at the time, so it wasn't that much of a sacrifice for me, but it was rough for a lot of guys who had family's. Much respect, Tommy! Stay safe! ✌️

Yep DIDO and FIFO so many years i did that for except we did extreme swings of 6 weeks on 3 days off , great way to make coin though . However so many work mates use to blow whatever they made on toys and pokies , best advice i could give anyone doing this sort of work would be set yourself up financially for the future as working away all the time eventually takes its toll .

They need to entice people to travel away so they generally have better than average conditions. It really depends on the type of work rather than just fifo in general, people with sitting or inside jobs get it real nice, if your out in the heat bustin ass it's a different story however. We did fifo for rail work and no one i'd know would complain about sorting some packages in the shade when your used to 50 degree days breathing flies while swinging a sledgehammer and fighting off dehydration the whole day.

I doubt you would be allowed to use filming devices on the work site..could be wrong but most industries don't allow it.
Stay safe! ✌️
Damn bro, that is brutal, you guys are the real heroes, the sacrifice of general comforts we 9 to 5ivers take for granted. You keep the lights on. Respect
Cool bro.. I just want clarity in what you define as a "hero"? That word seems to fly for everything nowadays and seems to lose its meaning. Cheers.
@mr.k1611 A working class hero I guess. Does the hard slog and sacrifices so much to bring the bread home for the family.
@@mr.k1611lol yeah. UberEat delivery drivers were being called hero's during Covid lockdown. LOL

Hero? For going to work and getting paid well for it?
You're a good bloke Tommy. You make us laugh and I'm sure your son is proud of you for working so hard. Keep going mate 👍
Do it for two years dump all your money on Bitcoin you'll be close to a millionaire in no time
Six weeks on three days off….. if True, what were they paying?
I like your manners. Thank you for sharing. My Uncle was a FIFO.
That site you’re at I consider luxury bro. The real MVP’s go out to the guys smashing their guts out at disorganised, run down, disgusting places where the food is almost inedible and the management don’t care about you.
Stay safe man
Malo lava le galue Tommy! 💯🥰🙏 great insight showing us your daily grind, also for our kupulaga/youth who may want to go down this avenue of work. Faamalosi Tommy! 🇼🇸👊❤️
This is the first video I’ve seen a bloke make in this format. Bit of a shift from the women that wake up at 8 and get to work at like 9-9:30 and then just sit around all day talking about movies and then go out to eat Brunch, Lunch AND Dinner with coworkers at restaurants every single fuckin day and knock off work at 4-5 in the afternoon. 🤣🤣
I can totally respect the sacrifices made here. Keep fighting the good fight and i know the wife and kids makes it all worth it for ya.
"I spend this time thinking of my son" your so sweet. What a lovely family man you are, working so hard too.
Yeah man, alot of down time is spent looking at photos of the family. It's why we do it ❤
@Audiochannel32 cmon man. That's not always the case
@Audiochannel32 I don't disagree with your point man. Guys get absolutely screwed over when it comes to custody of the kids, even if the woman cheats. I just meant not every FIFO relationship ends in cheating etc. There are quite a few where this lifestyle suits and works perfectly.
This was really interesring to watch! Thank you for sharing 😊
Defo need to make a full video on what you do in a day like a 10 minute video that would be good
massive respect out to the fifo workers, you get great pay from it but requires such hard work
I bet your little boy enjoys watching his dad make these videos! ❤
Subbed because I feel you brother. Did a year and half of similar work. If only people knew the struggle.

Bang on brother, after spending 10+ years working away as a FIFO operator i couldnt of summed it up better myself. Much respect, Stay safe and dont worry the day does finally come when you can tell them to stick it and come home for a "Beer money" job 😆
I use to do FIFO bro and i just had PTSD seeing that coffee 😂
Bro I appreciate what you do for your family, I done it for 13 years in the Bowen Basin , don’t miss it at all , but don’t regret it either
I did FIFO from Perth to Parabadoo a few years ago and we stayed right on site so we woke up 530am n started at 6pm doing drilling. Alot of the times we finished after 10hours n got paid for 12, all came down to achieving alot during that shift. Made 45k n 10 months n bought a house back n NZ. Was good times.
45k in 10months ? That's not that much.
45k is that all. Nz homes are real expensive
45k is a joke bro
@@Sam123QU29 12 years ago it was alot.
@@hanoitripper1809 12 years ago NZ house prices were very affordable so I'm sitting pretty now, lol.
Hey Bro.
I'm from Adelaide,Work in Radio and Celeb Promotions an that can be pretty draining after 14 Hours.
I admire ya mate.
Hope ya get to see ya Family a bit more often,an just think how proud ya Son will be when he fully understands what ya do for ya Fam.
Keep safe legend ✌️
I've been there brother! Well explained and gee it brought back memories. People, well most don't know the sacrifice... anyway keep kicking goals for the family! Peace ✌️
Nice digs mate! A lot better than the prison camp accom in the Bowen Basin. I still have nightmares about Middlemount...
Screw that. I like my own bed. 8 hour shift enough for me. But good on you.
I think that's what I love most about fifo ($ is good also) is that feeling when your kids are happy to see you when you get back home.
taking your boots off at the end of the day %100
Fukin oath Kent 👌
I did this for 2 years in western Australia up in the iron ore mines in the pilbara region. I was a polypipe fusion welder,49 degree heat and the flies are so bad i had to wear a face and head net. It was good money and a good experience but i was single with no kids, its a lot more difficult when you have kids and a missus and your away for 3 weeks at a time and home for 1 week.
Yeah I know a few who have done that same job at Rio Tinto mainly most of them hate it..also know a few families it has destroyed especially the 2 on and 1 off roster..I know a few guys that have lasted a month and bailed.
@Wicked_R yeah its not an easy job either way you look at it.
@Freedom Family lol, yeah ok bloke .If it was that easy everyone would be doing it!
Accidentally found your channel . Luv’d it mate . Shoutout from Tassie !!!
This is like joining up to the armed forces minus the fighting...you gotta have a discipline life away from all the social distractions people would have in the city. I wish they had short term employment. I could do this for 6mnths
Amazing video, thank you for sharing. All the best my friend.
Respect the hustle! Love this content, promote to the youth that hard work is the way! 🙏💯🔥
Tommy you got a great voice for narrating stories my man
Going in for an interview next week for my first mines job. Watching this was humbling being that I haven’t done anything like this before! Appreciate the vid keep killing it dude
🤘🏼
How’d it go mate?
I can see you stayed at Mayfair Motel in Emerald.. Try a mining camp next time and do 3am PT. We can do AM PT together. Plus you're on the above ground kestrel coal site...
This sort of work is really for single people. It's too hard if you have a young family and you never get to see them.
Been doing fifo as a conveyor technician In WA for years now the Pilbara is something special 😂😂
I’m moving into drilling next month so see how that goes
What does FIFO stand for?
Fly In Fly Out
When ya about to go to work and say yeah nah rather stay in bed but misso says
"SO HELP ME ROGER Betta get up !FIFE FO FREE TWO..
OK OK Ok
Nah just kidding as above comment
Mate thank you, i loved this. My dad has been a fifo worker and iv always been curious what hes days are like he tells me but its really good to see it. So thabk you mate keen to see more fifo content

Great video mate awesome. Yes I’ve fifo and yeah not fan. Much respect to the lads and lasses out there providing for there family. I was doing 4&1 and it just fkd with my head to much. Missed my wife and kids that much.
So weird man , My job got a flush of people from FIFO and I swear they were the most lazy and moaning mertle type of people I have ever worked with and all we did was sort out Packages for Amazon!
Fukin oath Kent 👌
They need to entice people to travel away so they generally have better than average conditions.
It really depends on the type of work rather than just fifo in general, people with sitting or inside jobs get it real nice, if your out in the heat bustin ass it's a different story however.
We did fifo for rail work and no one i'd know would complain about sorting some packages in the shade when your used to 50 degree days breathing flies while swinging a sledgehammer and fighting off dehydration the whole day.
@@matty101yttam man that’s exactly what those men said they were doing haha working in the heat and sun all the sad stories but couldn’t last in a warehouse it’s algood tho we fired them a few months later and hired locals doing well now
@@povasme4832 Maybe you just got unlucky then, i work in a warehouse type situation now and i've never had holidays or take breaks/lunchbreaks because it doesn't feel like work.
First 6 months or so i felt guilty like i wasn't doing anything. The other staff piss me off because they are constantly watching everyone else and complaining about who goes home early(when everyone is going home early really), bitching about internal politics or dodging the easiest of jobs.
So yeah maybe your just in a bad situation, maybe most of the good fifo workers are obviously still doing fifo and your getting the dregs that get fired. Not sure what to say.
That 50 min trip nap is the best nap in life. You filled your belly with good food. Then a nap in the bus.
Do you have gym in that place you live
Great work mate. Without mining this country would be broke. Companies should treat all FIFO workers like royalty.

Awesome brother heard so many stories about the mines and FIFO but seeing it like this opens my eyes cheers lad keep going 🤘
I used to do maintenance in FIFO accommodation in Moranbah. I used to have everything tip top for the blokes and I would refuse to use any power tools as about 1/4 of the blokes were on nights.
The most common maintenance other than room stuff like remote controls, towel rails, door hinges ect was the washing machines. Had coal machines and normal machines and the coal machines were f*cked up on a fortnightly basis haha.
REALLY considerate of you man, I'm sure a lot of people appreciated that more than you'd ever know (not using power tools). Legend.
Thanks for sharing bro. Greetings from Canada 🇨🇦.

Good vid man, cheers for the insite.
Taking the ole steel toes off at the end of the day is absolutely the best feeling ever.
This is what real men do for there families 💪
Thank you to all these hard working men who work in tough conditions away from their family, friends and their home comforts. As I female, I cringe when I hear women demand equal pay when men are the ones doing the back breaking and physically hard work. Again, I thank you 💖
Good to see this, hope I remember this next time I complain about my job. My job is nothing compared to yours brother, you work bloody hard and long - Much respect.
Nice one bro. My days are usually 3am and sleep around 9pm-10pm. Let’s keep this hustle up🤝🏾
FIFO (Fly-In Fly-Out) for the people that from America that was taught fifo was "first in, first out."
Thanks for this vid man gives plenty of insight. I'm currently in the army in the training stage of becoming an Electrical Technician (we just call ourselves 418's or Tech Elecs). See where life takes me, I'm loving the army so far but I think it would be cool to work in the mines as an Elec Fitter and/or Sparky (hoping to get my A-grade during my time at a unit). All I know is I have both options of discharging or dropping to reserves after my minimum service and heading to the mines or staying in and ranking up. Happy with either but like previously mentioned, see where life takes me. Cheers for the vid mate 🤙🏿
Good on you brotha. Providing for your family. I know the feeling of long periods away from them.
Thank you for the insight Uso🙌🏽
Bro hats off to you! I get up at 5:30, start at 7 and finish at 3 most days, that's hectic shit you guys do!
And they do it every damn day for 13 days.
