So, I am 29, next year I will be 30. My goals when I was 20 were - get my PhD in astrophysics before I am 30, get a decent job that does not bore me to death, move out of my parents place, try to find a good guy who is quirky in a funny way, sort my anxiety out to the best of my abilities, try not to judge others (not even silently), tidy my space more, get one plant to survive more than a few months in my surroundings :D, learn how to cook (better) and actually follow receipts, read more, buy a record player... and a few more. So happy to say I actually got it all done! And one unexpected but lovely edition, I am gonna have a kid before I hit 30. Good decade (taps herself on the back), I think I did a pretty good job.
Jovana Petrović wow sounds amazing! Great job :) I'm almost 25 now and I didn't set any particular goals when i was 20, but maybe it's not too late now...
I don't think it is ever too late, also for many people setting goals has little or no relevance, they still have a desire to strive and do what makes them happy. I was always a bit of a control freak, some times I think that going with the flow is such a blessing. Also, there are so many things you cannot really control, you can just hope they turn out fine. I did reach many of my milestones but along that way my parents got ill, my grandpa died, I struggled with money a lot, with anxiety quite a lot, and there were many times that were rough... but you wiggle your way trough fighting and doing your best - plans or no plans, lists or no lists. :) good luck!
Jovana Petrović your comment gives me so much motivation to work on my (similar) goals! Thank you!! May I ask how you sorted out your anxiety? I've been struggling with it for years now and I really feel like it's in the way of so many things, so any tips are welcome :)
Hi! I am really glad to hear that, I hope it all works out for you the way you planned, with some nice surprises on the way just to spice it up :) So what I did for my anxiety is a few life style changes, I try to take really good care of myself as my anxiety creeps up when I am tired and under a lot of stress. I took up yoga, I try to sleep regularly and eat healthy, walk a lot, take mindful brakes (sit and concentrate on my breathing, like small meditation brakes - there is a great app called Headspace to help you out if it is something you find useful, it really helps me calm down and focus). And I tried CBT - cognitive-behavioral therapy, I went for a few sessions, and even tho I did not quite click with the counselor, I really learned a lot on how to brake away from "bad" brain patterns that lead to anxiety and panic attacks. I did have to pay for it myself, but I found that investing in good mental health is much more beneficial then shoes :D if you can get it for free via your social/medical security. I hope this helps! P.S. my anxiety is not gone away completely, I still have some "not ideal" days, but it got much much better and I feel like it is not heavily influencing my decisions and my life anymore.
Jovana Petrović Thank you so so much for your comment!! I really appreciate the things you wrote & the time you took. Your tips are very helpful, especially the mindful breaks (already downloaded headspace :D) and the CBT. I looked it up & it sounds great. And if it can reduce my anxiety it's indeed a very good investment. I keep in mind that I probably won't get rid of anxiety for good but, like you said, as long as it's not controlling my life anymore I will be satisfied. Congratulations on all of your achievements (even a pregnancy, wow!) really amazing that you've reached so many goals! I'm 22 now so i have some time, but I hope I will be just as happy with what I've accomplished at (almost) 30 as you are right now. I will re-read your comment to keep myself on track :)
i am 16 and turning 30 is a goal in itself - staying alive for 14 more years sounds hard enough. taking care of myself mentally and changing people's lives in a positive way is what i am aiming for.
I just turned 30 and I genuinely feel like I’ve achieved what I wanted to so far. I also feel like if I had had a list that I hadn’t completed, it would’ve had a really negative affect on me mentally. A lot of this stuff is out of your control.
For instance- I know people who want to be married and have kids before they’re 30. They turn 29 single and panic. Then they attach themselves to the first person they can find and have kids without even thinking it through, just because they set a goal when they were, like, 18.
I can relate to aspects of your paragraph I as a fellow 30 year old don't feel like I have achieved anything & sometimes it sucks when people make sneaky comments & some days it does get me down mentally as I feel frustrated at myself as some things feel out of my control, however on a positive note, I'm soul searching & trying to have faith that in due course everything will fall into place over a short period of time but sometimes it can be so overwhelming I don't know where to start especially when I know certain family & friends are laughing behind my back as to them I'm bit of failure although I have a secure job & I'm proud that I managed to save some money over the years.
That must be very difficult and disheartening to have family say those things to you - don't let them get you down or distract you from all the hard work and effort you put into your life, and especially from all of your achievements, good luck on your way Missy Xx
If you want to read more, I'd recommend downloading GoodReads. You can set yourself a yearly goal for how many books you want to read, and it makes it into a fun challenge. You get a great sense of achievement once you've reached your goal!
You have absolutely such a beautiful voice. You really would be great at being a radio host or doing podcasts because you have such an engaging voice that makes people want to listen to it all day long. You have a natural air of safety in your voice that is really inviting.
Leah Roth I like her voice for radio too! I've noticed that watching her speak is kinda odd tho, something with the mic, idk I have headphones on so I am watching her mouth, not a negative comment, may be she'll get this and get what I'm saying.
letterboxd is my favorite app that i’ve been using the past few months! it’s just an app to keep track of all the films you’ve watched. you can log them in a diary or just mark them as watched, you can put movies on a watchlist or make a list of specific movies like “top 50 classics to watch” or “top ten movies with purple covers” or something obscure. i think it might help in the film aspect of your goals!
Before I'm 30 (I'm currently 23) I'd like to do some travelling, in particular I'd like to go on safari in africa as I am passionate about animals and graduated from uni with a degree in wildlife conservation :) xx
On the radio show front, try volunteering for a community station or a hosptial radio station, it will help get your foot in the door. However I am setting up a radio station for a uni assessment and I would love to start broadcasting Banging Book Club because I think it's great!

interestingly on getting a dog, I was having a bad mental health time and I got a dog and it actually helped me take care of myself better. having to get up and take care of her made it easier to take care of me too.
Lucy, I watch your videos all the time but never comment...usually just because when I watch you I just leave you playing while I wash dishes or clean....your voice is so soothing! and these are great goals. Also, I feel old now finding out your only 22. I am 28 🙈😂 I don't have quite as much time to reach my goals before 30 ...anyhow.. keep it up girl love your content 👍❤️
Hey Lucy as an avid film lover here are 5 films that I think you'd really appreciate! 1) Before Sunrise/Sunset/Midnight- It's a trilogy but I'll count it as one! 2) Carol 3) Arrival 4) The Handmaiden 5) Her Enjoy! - I'd love to hear you talk more about music, recommendations etc, your taste is impeccable!
Yes, Edinburgh is so lovely. Especially at this time of year because they have a German Christmas market which is so nice. I also think you'd adore the castle and prince's street
I absolutely love this video ! I'm 22 too, and now you inspired me to write down a bucket list ✨ I've been to Sweden once and you have to go there ! The landscapes are breathtaking in the winter ❄️❄️
i think everyone should experience a scottish road trip! (especially the highlands and skye.) i lived there for a year last year and all i wanna do is go back (i'm not from uk so going back is not so easy). also, i'm bias but glasgow is way cooler than edinburgh (i lived in glasgow, ha!) the people are so cool and slightly strange in the best possible way, and the live music scene is unlike any other.
I live in Sweden, and if you ever go then I recommend the following places: Stockholm (Gamla Stan especially!) Småland (lovely countryside) Ystad (nice towns and seasides) Kristianstad (similar to the above- good in summer time)
I watched this while writing my own list (pausing when I needed to write). It's interesting to see how similar some goals are, but others are different. I don't care about owning a house before I'm 30, but the charity ambassador one is one I 100% would love to do.
100% suggest a Pentax K1000 for a 35mm film camera. When I studied photography at college, it was the camera we were all told to buy for our film unit. They're so easy to use, and very cheap. I picked up mine for about £30 (with standard lens). I love it as there's a dial in the viewfinder that indicates whether your image will be correctly exposed, a life saver when working with expensive film!
Ahh, the classic films thing is something I've wanted to do, even gone so far as to draw up the list, but never got round to doing. Something about sitting down to watch a film seems like a commitment of time that I don't feel entitled to do if I have other more pressing things to attend to. Also if you need tips for visiting Scotland, let me know! In January I'm going to travel around Scotland and spend heaps of time in Edinburgh too. By Feb I can give you all the hot tips. I'm excited because I grew up in Scotland but really never visited anywhere other than where I lived. Living in Australia and Canada (and Europe I guess) since then has given me a whole new perspective on what counts as 'far' to travel, and two hours from Aberdeen to Edinburgh is NOTHING! I'm also excited to see things I haven't seen since I was little since I know a lot of my childhood memories are filled with magic and wonder. Like you know how everything is mysterious and bizarre and exciting when you're small? I want to see how it is to go back now that I'm grown. Even though I'm only 18. This year my goal is to get a job for the first time, to volunteer, to spend time with my family, to start Uni. Get my driver's licence. Watch more films and read more books. A big one is to keep making vlogs and videos, even if I won't be travelling. I discovered that editing and sharing my experiences brings me so much joy and involves my family and friends in my travels. I am SO excited to keep going! Maybe I'll make a 20 before I'm 20 video! I really really enjoyed hearing about your dreams and goals - it's super inspiring and makes you reflect on your own.
I was really excited to hear you would like to visit Israel! If you ever come visit I recommend coming in the autumn. Good luck with all of your goals, you really inspire me😊
Hi Lucy, I really enjoy watching your videos, especially the one where you talked about feeling of stagnation resonated with me a lot! Btw, you have such a calming voice and I love listening you talk. Hope you can achieve your 30 goals and good luck with your vlogmas! P.S. It was interesting to hear that you wish to travel to my home country, South Korea. I’d recommend you to go see the Han river at night, you’ll love the view:)
Didn't expect to click on this video and hear Edinburgh being mentioned ...It's my hometown & i take it fore granted but i know you would love it! I'm also the exact same with films and it's also something i really want to change about myself. Good luck
Before I am 30, I want to finish my studies, have a dog and a cat, have a partner (maybe even married), finally know if I have endometriosis and what exactly is going on with my (right now benign) liver tumor... There are all about safety and health, but I want to travel to America or Australia till I am 30 and learn how to surf! And learning how to speak Spanish would be awesome.
Merle Karpenstein getting that 100% sure endometriosis diagnosis is the best feeling 💕 it’s so peaceful to understand what is going on in your body and be able to use a word to describe it. All the endo love and luck 💛
Hey! I made my own list when I was 19 (now 23) and have about 1/3 completed. Some of my big ones like yours is to live in my own house/apartment (own, not rent) and have a pet. Some of my fun ones, uncompleted, are visit an active volcano and host a dinner party with friends. Some fun ones completed were take a trip by myself and see my four K artists (Killers, Kendrick, Kanye, KoL). I definitely need to revisit mine and adjust now that I've gotten older.
The Lipstick and the chair👌❤.... Great video...i feel like I need goals right now. This year I had one big one and that was 50 books its harder than I thought..
I always find it curious when people wanna visit Israel (as an Israeli). I just wonder how they imagine it. I guess a lot of other people feel that way about their country, but it's so off for me to hear "the middle east" as a category of travel. My boyfriend (German-American) always says Tel Aviv reminds him of California.
I made a goal to myself to read 30 books during the last year. It was a challenge but I’ve accomplished it and it feels so good. I think I might continue into next year and try it again.
I actually just made myself a list like this this morning, though it is more of short term and long term goals than 30 Before 30. But some of them would fall into the vein of what you listed. But here's my list! Short Term: - Finish draft 2 of my personal statement - WORK: Make math worksheets for Winter Break Initiative and roll it out to my teammates - Do laundry - Workout 2-3 times a week - Pack to go home for Christmas - Keep up my language practice in Duolingo Long Term: - Go to grad school - Go to France/a Francophone country and see Les Mis en français - Visit the countries I missed on my first trip to Europe: Germany, Austria, Poland, Spain, Ireland, Scotland, Norway, Greece, Belgium, Russia - Go back to NYC - Live outside of the US - either working, studying, or both
At the start of this year I made a list of things I wanted to do before I turned 30....it included things like see a new country and finish a book as I have a habit of starting them and never finishing them. Well I went to a new country and that was about it. Now I’m 14 days from turning 30 with little else to show for it.
Yes, you must go to Scotland and Wales. I'm planning my second trip to Scotland for next years Fringe in Edinburgh. From what I see it's a total blast.
I am exactly the same in terms of being terrible with films but good with music, and have been meaning to get into films for way too long! I have always been much more into reading than watching stuff but still think it would be great to finally get into films and totally agree about how it would help with understanding references/jokes, it can be embarrassing at times! Would also like to live abroad for at least six months, possibly even in more than one place, I’m thinking somewhere in Europe like Copenhagen or Berlin (I’m a baker so would really like to work in a bakery somewhere) and am also intrigued to live somewhere like Beijing or Seoul ask i have visited and loved both and think it would enjoy cool to live somewhere so different from home!
I'd like to be a full time musician, play bigger shows, hear my music in films, create a TV show that represents the underrepresented, publish one of my novels..... The list goes on, but ultimately I'd like to make a difference in this world and just be happy 💜💜💜 P.S. Lovely video as always Lucy!
I love this video! I have a film camera from taking a photography class in college and should make it a goal to take more pictures with it. Some of my goals are moving into my own apartment and then eventually my own apartment in downtown Sacramento, CA. I want to eventually work as a crime scene tech. I want to visit London, do an art tour of Europe and see most of the art work I learned about in my art history class. Travel to more places in the U.S., I want to go on walks outdoors more, read more because I use to read for fun so much more before college, learn how to play the piano, create healthy eating and exercise habits and meet Ira Glass.
What a great list!! Film photography is definitely on my list of things to get into and want to travel a lot too! If you come to Edinburgh I'd love to meet you and show you around!! 😊
Life : stop being lazy - work: writing and reading more even though I’m busy - play : watch more movies IM SO HAPPY THAT YOU CAME TO MY COUNTRY “BAHRAIN”
Just a wild couple of suggestions - if you want some good production software, the ones I was introduced to and would very highly recommend due to their flexibility and being cheap - if you want customisable music production software, give Cockos REAPER a spin. You can lay it out practically however you want and it's quite easy to pick up (plus teaches you a few tricks you can transfer to other software like ProTools, Cubase, Logic or Audition as you prefer). You get 60 days for free and after that it's not much. For radio, software such as Mixxx and Sourcefabric's Airtime might be a good place to start. Both are free to download (unless you'd prefer to pay for Airtime Pro for then to host the server) - otherwise maybe start with your own solo podcast to see how you'd get on, see how you feel about it and start out volunteering for community or hospital radio and work your way up. Whatever you decide I wish you all the best with your travels, purchases and activities!
I worry that I haven’t achieved as much as I should have and I am nearly 28. However listening to your list I feel much better. You want to save a deposit and buy your own home, I have just done this and move in February, I will be getting my first sofa around that time. You want to own a pet and I have been lucky enough to have my guinea pig for 6 years but he died last year so I will be looking to get a new pet before I’m 30, maybe a dog or cat. You want to visit India and Ghana and do more charity work. This year I did volunteer work and research in Kenya and last year I went to Sri Lanka for a month to work at the local hospital. I also went to Thailand which was on my travel bucket list and I’ve added more countries on that list now. Buying my first car and learning to drive was on my list and I managed to do that at 24. I wanted to get a degree, which I achieved this year at 27. I also wanted to do a lot more charity work so 3 years ago I joined St. John ambulance and I’ve done a lot of local health related volunteering events. I feel much better about my life after reflecting and actually recognising how much I’ve already done. Good luck to you Lucy! And to anyone else readying this far into my comment... Just remember you can do anything you want to do, never be afraid to ask for what you want, the worst thing that can happen is you don’t get it but you can always try again. Always say yes to new opportunities, you never know what adventures they may take you on.
If you’re looking for a simple-to-use production program, try Mixcraft! It’s $80 (not sure how much that is in pounds) and it’s really easy to use, I’ve had it for over five years now. The one downside to it is that it’s only compatible with Windows, but I bet there are other substitutes out there :)
A biiiig thing for me is getting work/life experience abroad as I'm in my MA of English Studies in Germany and outside like one week holidays I haven't been abroad and I'm DYING to

Liz bth the last five years😄😄
(Sorry, it’s just a musical reference)
I'm already 35, sooooooo........ Maybe I'll do goals before I'm 45? or even 40. Five years is a pretty good chunk, right?
Yay! At 34 I'm not the oldest one here. :D
I was a bit late for the video as well. I'll be 31 in a few days. Chuckles
I'm so glad you made one too! It's a lovely way to kick yourself into gear and do fun stuff + reflect in years to come :)
I can definitely see you as a radio host! Your voice is so soothing, I could listen to you talk for ages- I hope you find an opportunity!
Lori Shen I was going to say the same thing! She has an awesome voice

you are glowing, also, might I add!

yes, I feel that way too about this voice. I wish she would start a channel that's just her reading aloud. ahhh....
Ooh, I’d love to learn more about film photography too!
Matt Day has a really lovely channel for 'from beginner to advance' film photography. You could check him out. Great content and tone of vibe.
Negative Feedback is a great youtube channel all about film photography its also super chill even if you're not into it
*i make funny videos like lucy i genuinely hope they put some happiness into your day ! :)*

You'll love Edinburgh. Make sure you keep a day free to go to Glasgow too, there's so much great modern art, shopping, food, and film culture there.
Reading more is on my list as well!
*i make funny videos like lucy i truly hope they put some positivity into your day ! :)*
That lipstick colour look so good on Lucy, tho. I'm quaking
I love how eloquently you speak, you're so articulate 😍😍
one of the things that's always been on my bucket list is to run a marathon!! i feel like i definitely could do it before i turn 30!!
interestingly on getting a dog, I was having a bad mental health time and I got a dog and it actually helped me take care of myself better. having to get up and take care of her made it easier to take care of me too.

Absolutely love the bright eyeshadow in your inner corners and berry lip! You look glowing!!
Lucy you're such an inspiration to me,i love you, like really!
Hey Lucy as an avid film lover here are 5 films that I think you'd really appreciate!
1) Before Sunrise/Sunset/Midnight- It's a trilogy but I'll count it as one!
2) Carol
3) Arrival
4) The Handmaiden
5) Her
Enjoy! - I'd love to hear you talk more about music, recommendations etc, your taste is impeccable!
YOU ARE ROCKING THIS LIPSTICK
you are so beautiful!
Yes, Edinburgh is so lovely. Especially at this time of year because they have a German Christmas market which is so nice. I also think you'd adore the castle and prince's street
Get yourself to Edinburgh! And to the Scottish highlands or islands, they're beautiful 💕
I absolutely love this video ! I'm 22 too, and now you inspired me to write down a bucket list ✨ I've been to Sweden once and you have to go there ! The landscapes are breathtaking in the winter ❄️❄️
this lip color is stunning on you!
Definitely come to scotland! The west coast and all the islands are so beautiful and the perfect place for you to take photos✨
I love these list-type videos! You should make one about favorite content creators & who you like to watch for vlogmas.
"And there's some amazing managers out there."
Me: It's manager Josh **snap** it's manager Josh **snap snap**
i think everyone should experience a scottish road trip!
I live in Sweden, and if you ever go then I recommend the following places:
Stockholm (Gamla Stan especially!)
Småland (lovely countryside)
Ystad (nice towns and seasides)
Kristianstad (similar to the above- good in summer time)
Lucy, it is very inspiring to watch you grow into the successful women you are today. I hope you meet your goals!!!
I watched this while writing my own list (pausing when I needed to write). It's interesting to see how similar some goals are, but others are different. I don't care about owning a house before I'm 30, but the charity ambassador one is one I 100% would love to do.
absolutely would read a lucy moon magazine
Firstly, that lip colour is stunning
Secondly, congrats for getting on the trending page
100% suggest a Pentax K1000 for a 35mm film camera. When I studied photography at college, it was the camera we were all told to buy for our film unit. They're so easy to use, and very cheap. I picked up mine for about £30 (with standard lens). I love it as there's a dial in the viewfinder that indicates whether your image will be correctly exposed, a life saver when working with expensive film!
I would love to listen if you created a radio show! Your music recommendations are some of my favourites
"I need to adult more"
I think that'll just be my list
Kevin Hermann yesss
OMG HOW SHE DOES HER HAIR. IT IS SOO BEAUTIFUL
I like how I have some of the same goals!! Specially in the work and play section! The work category is so so me!!!
Love this video. I am 22 as well and I am going to make a list like that. Thanks for inspiring me. This is awesome. Keep us updated! Xxxx
loved this vid lucy!! xx
These goals are so lovely, next step is to make a real plan of how you're going to achieve them
Didn't expect to click on this video and hear Edinburgh being mentioned ...It's my hometown & i take it fore granted but i know you would love it! I'm also the exact same with films and it's also something i really want to change about myself. Good luck
i listened to this while building a shelf lol you’re the best
i’d love it if you did an advice/life podcast that sounds amazing
Before I'm 30....mhmmmm, never thought about it, mainly I'd love to publish a fantasy book and live in Wales for a bit.
Film photography is super fun! I just started this year and it's actually really easy to learn once you started
I definitely need to revisit mine and adjust now that I've gotten older.
learning about film photography is so satisfying, especially if you get the chance to develop it yourself. it's like magic x
I go to uni in Edinburgh and its great, come and stay in the studenty area! and great list, will be stealing some of these ideas,
Anna Fremantle ana Gabriel
This is inspiring! Definitely gonna make my own, I think this is a fairly reasonable list for you to achieve, awesome!
The Lipstick and the chair👌❤.... Great video...i feel like I need goals right now. This year I had one big one and that was 50 books its harder than I thought..
This will be fun to look back on when you turn 30!
YES to Edinburgh! I studied there for the first half of this year and absolutely fell in love. Can't recommend it enough!
Honestly you’re a star and I’m sure all of these things will be something you can accomplish!!💕✨
I want to fall in love one more time.
I want to find a job/career that I'm happy with.
I want to move outside of Minnesota
I made a goal to myself to read 30 books during the last year. It was a challenge but I’ve accomplished it and it feels so good. I think I might continue into next year and try it again.
Maybe I’ll read 30 books every year until I’m 30 (I’m 20 now)
A good way to stop bitting ur nails is getting your nails done with gel polish - it helped me so much! Xx
Love this video! I feel like I’m so close to 30 and there’s so much I want to do before then - this definitely inspired me!
I actually just made myself a list like this this morning, though it is more of short term and long term goals than 30 Before 30. But some of them would fall into the vein of what you listed. But here's my list!
Short Term:
- Finish draft 2 of my personal statement
- WORK: Make math worksheets for Winter Break Initiative and roll it out to my teammates
- Do laundry
- Workout 2-3 times a week
- Pack to go home for Christmas
- Keep up my language practice in Duolingo
Long Term:
- Go to grad school
- Go to France/a Francophone country and see Les Mis en français
- Visit the countries I missed on my first trip to Europe: Germany, Austria, Poland, Spain, Ireland, Scotland, Norway, Greece, Belgium, Russia
- Go back to NYC
- Live outside of the US - either working, studying, or both
this was lovely! you've inspired me to write my own
At the start of this year I made a list of things I wanted to do before I turned 30....it included things like see a new country and finish a book as I have a habit of starting them and never finishing them.
Grave related, if you haven't already check out Postman's park. It's in London.
Lucy, can I just say that lip colour is REALLY working for you
I'd like to be a full time musician, play bigger shows, hear my music in films, create a TV show that represents the underrepresented, publish one of my novels.....
The list goes on, but ultimately I'd like to make a difference in this world and just be happy 💜💜💜
P.S. Lovely video as always Lucy!
These are awesome goals! And totally attainable ☺️🙏🏾💜
Love it... Just posted a 30 before 30 too and it's intresting to hear what's on other people's list xx
Love this! I watched Sanne's video as well and found it so inspiring. I need to do this!
Love this style of video! Might film one myself 💜💜
*i make funny videos like lucy i truly hope they put some laughter into your day ! :)*
To be honest....my only goal is to be happy about myself and my life. And that seems so hard right now.
What an amazing list, you’ve inspired me to make my own!
Honey... you are trending #PROUD
Yesss if you come to Scotland come to Scotland come to Glasgow, it’s great and there are so many good small music venues 🎶🎵
Life : stop being lazy - work: writing and reading more even though I’m busy - play : watch more movies IM SO HAPPY THAT YOU CAME TO MY COUNTRY “BAHRAIN”
somewhat unrelated...but I'm absolutely in love with your blog :)
Whatever you decide I wish you all the best with your travels, purchases and activities!
life zooms by
I worry that I haven’t achieved as much as I should have and I am nearly 28.
Ooh can I help with the films list please?
ohhh, this seems like an amazing idea !! i always love your videos Lucy there always so inspiring
Good luck! I really hope you achieve all of them. It would be so lovely xxx
Lebanon is a pretty amazing country to visit. Going there changed my life in the best ways. I’ll ask you to consider it as an option! 😘
LIPSTICK wowwww - in luv w ur makeup!!
