Man I grew up to this back when I was a youngin on the backroads of a lil town in Gretna Virginia, moonshine was the drink of the day!! This one is for my oldest friends who was murdered a couple years ago in that same town. We miss you Van Hooker! See you soon! Love You Brother!
"I think they just sit up there and just get high"...... One of their under-appreciated tunes...... They just had so many bangers, some were bound to get left behind.....
Billy was a roadie & had a lot to do with Freebird sat down & started playing & they fired him as roadie & put him in the Band !!😊Best keyboards ever!! You probably knew that But Hava good day
And to think Billy wasn’t originally in the band. He was kinda hanging around and being a roadie and they heard him playing one night and one of them said maybe we need a piano player and Ronnie said we need that piano player. He is essential to that sound that is only lynyrd skynyrd and an unbelievable talent. I was lucky enough to meet him twice and those are in my top memories of my life.
I would argue that "Pronounced" holds up right up there at or near the top of the list as one of the classic rock era's greatest debut albums by any band of the era. Just look at the list of hits that Pronounced spawned that remained staples of the live set even after the band reformed and went on in 1987 after the plane crash. I Ain't The One, Gimme Three Steps, Things Goin' On, Simple Man, Tuesday's Gone, & Free Bird all debuted from Skynyrd's Freshman effort in the studio, which is incredible if you start thinking how often many of those songs are still being played to this very day on FM Radio stations across the country, around the clock. My description of Skynyrd has always been "the greatest redneck, from the wrong side of the tracks orchestra" that rock has ever produced.
I agree 100% deffinitely made quite the impact with first album hell just free bird alone is enough for me too say its the greatest debut album of all time
so true - just thinking that - its got so many classics - and now to hear ones for the first time - new classics, if you will - can't believe how every song they wrote is that amazing - or maybe I can
"Tell it, tell it." He aint just talking about the ghetto. Ronnie going from macro to micro --- top to bottom --- its all corruption. The man was brilliant.
One of my favorite Skynyrd tunes, haven't heard it in years! Crazy how so many genres are covered in one song and arranged to sound so sweet! Kinda like something you would expect from a bayou tune with the piano, mixed with delta blues and slide that Gary made sound oh so fine... you guys are truly missed! IDK, kinda wild thinking that all these dudes came from one hood and invented a sound that will never be duplicated
love how the bluesyness always had that hard rock feel to it - the bands that figured that out at the time are among the greatest ever - zeppelin, sabbath, scorpions, and of course the mighty Skynyrd
I don't know how I missed the passing of the last remaining original member of Lynyrd Skynyrd. I was simply looking to see who was credited for writing on a song and happened to notice that there was an expiration date after Gary's Birthdate. What a shitty way to find out. 🥴
It is true all the boys are gone. But let's Not forget about Mr Medlock, he was there at the beginning and still going with whatever music they'll play. Was on First and Last, singing and drums 🥁

I'm going to have to Google Shantytown rock and roll. I've never heard that handle being put on rock and roll. Like everybody that listens to Leonard Skinner they were one of the greatest bands ever and I've heard other people say this imagine how many more tunes they had in them. I'm sixty-four I was at a camp party in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in the morning we heard the news about Lynyrd Skynyrd crash none of us could believe that man and like I said before it didn't matter if you were from the east coast to West Coast doctor I live in The Boondocks or from Jacksonville I believe everybody loved Lynyrd Skynyrd
@@jonstensaas9077 they are from the “shanty” part of town. Blue collar, hard working class. As a result it helped shape their sound! Pure shanty town rock n roll is the real deal.

Well..... i will tell ya!!! He started out as a roadie, one night they set up at a club, had an old pianio in the back behind the stage!!! Of course a clasicly trained pianist, could not resist the urge!!!! Someone heard it and Told Ronnie and when Ronnie heard it he hired him on the spot!!!!
RIP Gary Rossington.... I'm an old fart. I have been trying to keep up with modern rock. Ghost and Volbeat are a couple of my favorites. In 2016 -17 suddenly the music they were playing on suck-ass 93.7 just started blowing! Have to drive 40 miles NE of MPLS to pick up 101.7 from Sauk Rapids to listen to a good rock station. Hearing this today reminded me how good us old farts had it in the 70s and 80s!! Effing Skynyrd is great!!
The first time I heard this song, i Was really young! Lol! I agreed with it then and it has only gotten worse in the past 50 years! Dam demonrats!! Long live the Spirit of Lynyrd Skynyrd! ❤❤❤
How about T for Texas, Call Me the Breeze and Down South Jukin and on and on and on and on and on til infinity. Never heard a Skynyrd song I didn't like

Love how Billy always got a piano solo in there. Skynyrd wouldn't have been the same without those ivory keys..
And to think he was a Roadie hauling their gear... Ronnie heard him play his piano creation intro to Free Bird and Ronnie hired him on the spot !!!
Yup,he played it pretty !!

The best band in America
Skynyrd.. They may all have passed on.. But there music will live forever..
They are the PERFECT blend of Blues, Country and straight up Rock and Roll!
It’s called southern rock brother
I also hear some proto funk riffs and the bass and drum beat sounds like polka. Not to mention the ol' west saloon pian-i.
No Band has ever written about it so well "PERIOD"
Billy Powell was the reason I learned to play the piano... ☮️❤️👍
And Gary Rossington for me playing slide guitar
Awesome!
