  • Samgo-Mu is a traditional Korean drum dance which is here performed at the Chongdong theatre in Seoul South Korea.
    This is from the DVD I picked up while attending a performance a little over a year ago.

    For some reason it reminds me of Riverdance in terms of beats and synchronocity.

    I've always had a lot of respect for Korean Drum Dance. Moving in unison. And requiring lot of core strength to bend backwards while continuing to play. Great workout at the same time. Coordination and strength + rhythm + grace. (and in most cases beauty :) ).

    You see, when most people think of Korean music, they would normally think of K-pop.
    However, there are others, like myself, cultural enthusiasts, who would think of traditional music like these when they are asked about Korean music. Yes, I may have a slight interest in K-pop, but it's the traditional music and culture of Korea that really interests me. I hope that there are other, fellow cultural enthusiasts, who have the same opinion.

    I saw this style of drumming live at an international festival, and i think it is one of the most beautiful and powerful things ever! I love the sound of drums in general, and I think this style is very interesting. I would love to get into it, but i'm not korean so i pretty much have no connections to get started....

      We have the principle of a cosmic evolutionary path walked by the One(God) which has been passed down from ancestors for the thousands years. And it's called Cheonbugyoung in Korean. In Cheonbugyoung, the purcussion(listening to the inner voice and to make and help the humanity for harmony and tranquility etc.,), mirror(reflection) and knife(determination, firmness) are described as three the important things for the Path something like that. I hope it helps you for understading. Thanks.

    @seho well u can compare different cultures im sure u know chinese , japanese and korean cultures are all intertwined and sure they may take insperation from one country but make things thier own. but i think u cannot compare taiko drumming with samgomu as this is far more graceful and not so fearous like taiko. Taiko is far more u can agressive and furious than samgomu. My opinion :)

    I'm Chinese myself and an avid learner of Korean dance, esp. Sogochum. I'd just like to correct it is wrong to say China does not have a dance tradition, it might be just that it's so broad it's hard to define at once. Please read up more on the various dacne cultures of East Asia if you're interested in the subject!

    @IrishKnight89 It is a drum dance which is said to have been inspired by Buddhist monks dances and shamanistic rituals. These drum beats and dances weren't influenced by other cultures.

    • @BegaW
      @BegaW 2 роки тому +1

      징소리, 꽹과리는 바람과 천둥소리를 상징한다고 합니다. 음양오행의 조화에서 빠질 수 없는 요소이기도 합니다. 선조들의 지혜로부터 이어져 오는것이고 시끄럽게 들릴 수도 있겠지만 개인의 호불호를 떠나서 자연에서 오는 소리는 고요하고 조용한 것부터 또한 강하고 시끄러운 소리까지 모두 포함된 것입니다. 농경이 주였던 삶에서 농악은 자연으로부터 오는 소리자체를 오롯히 느끼며 삶의 희노애락을 표현하고 발산하려고 했을 것입니다. 감사합니다.

    Good point seho. By "I agree" in the above comment I didn't mean to say one was better than the other, only that this particular performance really does this style of drumming justice. I have also seen outstanding Taiko performances that have left me equally amazed.
