- Alexander Karmanov is unlike anything we've witnessed at this stage of hockey before. Heiling in at an astounding 7'0" tall, he's currently the tallest active hockey player not only in minor hockey, but on the entire planet as well.
Recently, Karmanov has taken his talents to North America, under a program that has churned out eager Russian talent before.
Could Karmanov become the tallest player in NHL history one day? Let's find out.

My favourite part is when he scores the goal and the kid (who is probably a very reasonable height) has to launch himself into Karmanov's arms
If he produces enough he might go in the later rounds, but the scouts are probably going to look and see if his skating progresses at all
I was thinking the same, probably the 5th round on is where he could be taken if at all?
Chara was a horrible skater early in his career.
He must get a lot of high sticks !? When he winds up for quick lil a snapper his stick will be almost head height for other players.
He’s a horrendous skater
This kid is huge at a young age chances are he got to this height very quickly as he gets older his brain will catch up to his body and he will become a much better skater and shooter and stick handler in the future just this kid will be terrifying when he gets older
i really hope carmanov makes it. would be fun to watch
He's only 16... He's still growing! 😂
jesus ,,,, still a kid ffs
do they make hockey socks long enough for the guy
@@randybegon3191 I feel like hockey socks are pretty stretchy, but certainly you would think there would be other equipment issues he would run into, particularly if he keeps growing. Chara actually had to get a waiver from the NHL to use a stick that was longer than what the league rules allowed. This guy might have to tape two sticks together! 😂
@@Statsy10 When i played i had a hand full left to try and clip to my garter
the socks could have fit a 50 in inseam mine was 29
I don't think it's a good idea to draft someone that has Acromegaly.
Liking this comment cause someone passed their Biology class
@@FaceoffWithFarenholtz Too funny, he also could of passed Sunday school and called him a Nephylim instead
This is a really well put together video! Gonna watch some more
Enjoy the journey :)
As his hockey IQ rises and he adjusts to his athleticism and his size he could be something special. Imagine a zedano charra but bigger.
That would be horrible, lol
zero chance that happens
"personally, i dont know why more teams do this"
*you mean, why more teams DON'T do this
that's just too tall. Unless he has a mean streak like Chara, guys are gonna take his legs out and he has a long ways to fall.
He got ejected in his debut he has the dog in him
Ol Slewfoot would end his career
Well, perhaps he'd gain self defensive skills as his co-ordination improves. By the time the pros are at him, he'll be a seasoned vet at protecting himself adn maybe even make sure they don't do that more than one time .... ;D
His height at a young age gives him a massive advantage over others, making him look amazing. Adult size Vs children. Will he develop into a top player only time will tell
He's got a lot of work to put in. Painful gym work. I wish him well.
Bend your knees, kid!
He'll need to learn to skate before he's even a consideration.
The first thing that impressed me was his skating. Maybe it's an optial illusion because he's so tall. He also seems to be fairly well coorrdinated, mush better than average for kids that get that tall that fast. I think he could use some bulk put on maybe 25 or 50lbs if muscle. Would also like to see him develop a slapshot. With that size and reach he'd have a rifle. Tremendous potential.
His form and technique is far from poor. Just needs to get comfortable in his frame and work, work, work.
Glad you see the same :)
> maybe there is some 7'1" mutant playing house...
Former NBAer Greg Ostertag is 7'2 and skates in the Dallas area.
You love to see it
As competition increases any gaps of space and time will be reduced to zero. And if they put him on defense, his own goalies will hate him for reducing puck visibility.
Nah, they will be able to see under his legs.
It will be interesting to see if this young player can make it to a pro league here in North America, then he would have to perform the same way with players only three inches shorter, for example Mister Rempe, instead of everyone at least a half a foot shorter, now I know three inches in height matters, but still...
Additionally, when I was 12 years old debating with my teammates why we could not have a sumo wrestler don the pads and play in net, shutout city right?
I imagine if this gets out of hand, not only will the NHL have equipment size regulations but player size regulations as well...no one over a certain height or weight, lol.
Chara was a terrible player in junior. Once saw Paul Ferone, a 5'11 forward beat him up. Yes, that's not how Chara ended up. He's now a HOFer that nobody wanted to mess with. Good on Chara, maybe this kid can do something similar.
One of those games is at UPMC Lemieux in Cranberry Twp, PA! I'd recognize that rink anywhere!
I had never really heard that about Chara's junior playing days. But if this kid becomes anything like Chara he's gonna be a monster!
Anyone who has ever seen Chara without a shirt knows the guy is a damn beast! For the height he is to have a frame of a bodybuilder must've been like playing against the Hulk! And Boston did put him in front of the net on PP's.
Anyways, I sincerely hope this kid gets to where he wants to be.
Hockey is not basketball. Skill and speed is WAYYYYY more important than size (to a certain extent). Once you are 5'10", 6', 0" and extremely fast and skilled, the extra height and weight is not necessarily a benefit. Not to mention getting underneath other players with your stick and body is the name of the game with hockey.
If he is fast, if he is extremely coordinated, he can be a good defensemen. but the skill and speed need to translate or the height is not a factor in him developing.
whats that a 20 ft wingspan on the kid
may have to learn how to take the body ,he is so much bigger than other players at the moment
NCAA will have a few 6,4 players to level up
He looks so awkward when shooting and still fires it decent, imagine if he actually could put his full weight and power into it.
I could see a 3rd round pick being used on him IF his skating improves and he begins to dominate. Guys like Point dropped with more offensive skill because of their skating. Maybe he's taken with a 6th or 7th round pick at that point, but if he goes undrafted that'll be a huge (no pun intended) mistake. Skating is so easy to fix especially with an NHL roster, that it kind of gets overblown to me. If Karmanov makes it to even the AHL, he's going all the way. I don't see him being Chara level good but I can see a consistent 3rd pair D who's a fan favourite and is a big morale booster.
big strides cover the ice in a hurry so coaching should help him play zone style defense and allow the skating to improve
I assume he has to have equipment and uni's made for him?
Perhaps, the Bruins can get him to play with Letourneau?
I have some Moldovan blood in me,go get themDude!
They said judge was too big but it worked out lol
Oh cmon. He’s got a long way to go. He’s so much bigger than his competitors, it’s difficult to imagine how he’ll look against opponents who aren’t under 16.
Then you agree with me…
Point to keep in mind, even in the NBA, exceptionally tall players don't look like they have the same hustle as smaller guys. But it's deceptive, because they cover much more ground with each stride. His skating looking like it does right now is quite impressive already!
Lemieux was deceptively pretty fast
You got my subscription!
I saw Chara play with the Islanders live in Philly, and he was still raw then. If Carmanov works on his game and people are patient, he could have a good future.
His skating looks better than Chara's. Is his work ethic is the question.
Rolle Saarinen, whose name you mentioned, is 215cm tall and still plays. At low level, but still he plays.
He’ll fall under the beer league/house category haha. That’s awesome to hear he’s still skating around
He would be so easy to deke out.
Have you got a video about the smallest player to play NHL?
Not my forte haha
Why does that thumbnail look like tom brady as a young child?
Reminds me more of Jesse Puljijarvi 😂
Kids team-mate's dad was on PG. Chara got a weight bench put in hallway, everyone walked by him doing like 200lbs bench. He was a machine.
That's unreal haha
@@FaceoffWithFarenholtz For a few seasons there the B's put Chara in front of the net on PPs.
All I anticipate are knee and back problems.
Sounds like my life
Future Hab
We need this guy in NHL25 HUT.
Probably 50 speed and acceleration, and 2 agility, but would still be a fun card
Is he north of 250lbs? He's a big target to hit, durability is my initial concern seeing him.
does he even know how to throw a check
size matters and he reaches around to defend rather than separate the man from the puck with the body
273 at the moment
Key-shin-ow
He needs beef to have the strength to skate fast at his size 250 lbs is small for someone 7 feet so it will take longer
I know I never said it in the video, but he is listed currently at 273lbs. I'd say that's a pretty fair size
Now his weight is 275 lbs
He’s 16! He may not end up in the NHL until he is 21 if he plays in the NCAA, assuming he gets there, but with 5 years to develop, the potenital is high. As they say, you can’t teach someone to be tall.
Size is nothing if you can't play
Jets fans know it all to well, look at Logan Stanley, a 6'7 liability.
His knees will last half a season.
Awkward skaters
So he's 7' tall but can't skate, shoot or pass. Sounds promising.
Of course, Dean!
