What is so cool is the grandma and grandpa angle. This kid/man has such cool humble beginnings. I think he was smart to leave the game before it destroyed him. Life is too short and he has more than made enough to last many lifetimes.
Beautiful story......when he was with the hawks i knew he was gonna be great, now hes a jet, thats my team ....for life, being from wpg, we lost our team , but now were back, still cant believe it, hes the best.
I’m from Rockford IL and watched Dustin play as a icehog when I was a kid and obviously am a huge black hawks fan This brought back so many memories ! I’ll forever remember this man ! Much love to him and his fam
Byfuglien is that one player that always amazed me, and it was brilliant that Chicago used him as a centre for a while. Good to see that he's still playing too.
I used to play traveling ice hockey against Dustin's first-cousins back in the 80s. We never defeated Roseau once. The Rams were a dynamo, up and down the age brackets, from Squirt to Varsity Level. I remember staying at legendary Coach Dick Johnson's place, whom I'm sure Dustin had as a coach. He was nice to us, but to hear him scream during the game and the watch the results those kids gave him. Man! they were damn good. What a wonderful biography of Roseau and one of the Byfulgliens.
I'm a Chicago fan, not as much now since they got rid of buff, and I still have a few players that I like, hosa, Shaw, number 4, I can't even begin to spell his name, jammerson... Something like that, but my all time favorite was, is and always will be big buff... I'd follow him no matter who he played for...my man and such a gentle giant...hats off to you Dustin, and best wishes for no matter what you do...
He probably woulda been a good pro defensive lineman if he'd taken that route, but there's no better place to grow up if you wanna be a hockey player than Roseau MN. With Grandma workin to next to the ice rink at a place where she could make him sandwiches? Damn, that's livin the dream!
I was a big fan of Buff's before I had the honor of playing drums at his wedding party in Minneapolis. Great guy, great family. An integral part of the 2010 Cup Champs. All was amazing that night until the rap-off between Kris Versteeg and Blake Wheeler, when #26 dropped one of our 1500.00 microphones like it was hot.
Lawrence, you and I can be honest, just how disappointed are you in your daughter? You can be honest, you know you are. Its ok to feel as though she destroyed generations of your family tree. She really did, its sad. I'm sure it took you a very long time to accept that your daughter was a piece of garbage.
Take your hat off for that incredible mother. That family united to help a child chase his dream. Beautiful.

Why did he leave? Probably physical toll.
I had no idea Big Savage came from such a humble background. My respect for him, his mother, and his family has gone up a notch!
Humble, you mean his mom didn't have a fucking thing because his black father wasn't there to support him? Lol.
Marcus Power, shut your fucking mouth.

Big Buff still missed by Blackhawk fans.

Buffs step dad was a hard nosed hockey player as well , kudos also to buffs grandpa who drove him around the country to games .
Three most important takeaways from this great story; family, family, family.
Great story, love Dustin what a beast.
The most underated player in the NHL.
Im from Winnipeg, he’s still my favourite player! I wear his #33 jersey at every game. I wish I could go fishing with him one day!
Glad he left on his own terms….. just the way we knew he would :)
man thats cool, 2 payments for a stick and now in the N
I wouldn’t want to b at the receiving end of one of his hits
right on......bring us too the promise land now buff, jets fan for life.
Wish he was still a Blackhawk. Will never forget that hit on Pronger in the Finals. After that hit, there was no stopping Chicago.

And he did bring it back, banner still hangs to this day in the rink
Now he's killing it in the nhl.

Its amazing you never see the "black" father in these videos. My only question is where is his father? Lol
Marcus Power ask him
My only question is, do you take your hood off when emailing?
Marcus Power there’s white kids without fathers to not only black people
Dude. Doesn't matter. Kid was surrounded by love and turned into a good guy.
