Good vid but i need to say few things: Hockey absolutely is very popular in slovakia, not as much as in canada of course but still very popular. The reason Slafkovsky is hyped so much here in Slovakia is because we have very big hockey past (going as far back as Stan Mikita, Stastny brothers, Robert Svehla or more recently Peter Bondra, Miroslav Satan, Ziggy Pallfy, Marian Hossa, Marian Gaborik, Pavol Demitra, prime Zdeno Chara, Lubomir Visnovsky, Michal Handzus, Jozef Stumpel and more...) many people still remember the good ol´ days of all these players playing (about 2000 to 2010) but then we started sucking and we havent much talent in recent years (2015 - 2020) and now Slafkovsky along with many others is considered our next big thing - finally someone we can be proud of hockey-vise after years of pain
Hope you enjoyed 🇸🇰 Also, yah... I realized I screwed the pooch on the Slovakia "main sport" argument. Continue to berate me for all it's worth though, silly mistake 😂
nice video, but when you said ice hockey isn't the most popular sport in Slovakia you were wrong, most played is technically football because we have a lot of ''countryside'' leagues but Ice hockey is definitely at the top here.
Ladies and gentlemen we could be part of history we could be witnessing the best of the best. Since I saw this guy playing I said this is Jaromir Jágr level of star and he already thinks that's where he wants to go
Miro Satan caused similar if not bigger hype in Slovakia after his first olympics - where he played with Peter Stastny, Slafkovsky is rooted in our hearts now though, it is a shame he does not have strong generation he could follow - but Slovakia is definitely coming back to its hockey positions , keep an eye on Dalibor Dvorsky!
He might doesn't have a generation to follow, but he is a start of one. I really feel like this is the beginning of Slovakias golden generation, they'll be a menace at the next olympics.
Really nice video but there's one thing I would point out as a Slovakian, I personally believe that hockey is #1 sport in Slovakia at the moment due to the mentality of most people that just shift between football (soccer) and hockey depending on the national's team performances. Slovakian football (soccer) is really struggling at the moment in the same regards as our hockey was a few years back before talents like Slafkovský, Dvorský, Mešár, Nemec etc. came through the ranks and made the hype and good performances at men's and U18 tournaments.
I as a Slovak see this mentality in myself but I really hate it at the same time, its like whenever the boys win, “we won” but whenever they lose, suddenly its “they lost”, not “we lost”. This kind of attitude just puts unnecessary pressure on the players, so I hope people in this country will eventually get it right and just stand beside the boys whatever their results are🤞🏻
I am originally from Slovakia, happy to see someone from my country to come and play in Canada and especially to Habs. After Richard Zednik and Jaro Halak. He will prove that he deserves to be number 1 pick.

I really enjoyed this. First time on your channel. Thumbs up on the editing. I hope you start doing more of these on all the players if possible lol I would definitely watch every one of them.
Really interesting video. The insight into his cultural impact and what he's become in Slovakia was fascinating. I've been wondering why I constantly see comments from Slovaks on UA-cam about how he's going to be a star, and why they're so attached to him, because the perception in North America feels very different. It's at least reassuring to know that he's already handled a ton of pressure and celebrity. I'm a Habs fan, and most of us don't want the Habs to draft him 1st overall, for all sorts of reasons. The most notable is that we've had a recent experience with a late-rising Liiga player who did well in international competition, with Jesperi Kotkaniemi, and we don't want to repeat that. Slaf's Liiga stats are even more alarming than KK's. A lot of Habs fans have been hoping for the team to pivot to an analytic approach to drafting for a while now, and the basic analytic (i.e. NHLe) model screams "stay away" in big red letters. More advanced analytics are more flattering, because he does do a lot of little things right, but still not all that encouraging. There's another aspect, which is very specific to Montreal, where all of our dumbest analysts and scouts have been praising him for 6 months, and they're the same people who praised Laine over Matthews, Kotkaniemi over Quinn Hughes, etc. It's certainly a logical fallacy to discount him for that reason, because it's guilt-by-association, but at least it'll help explain our attitudes to people on the outside. I get the sense, and I might be wrong, that he was too good for the U20 league while not quite being ready for Liiga. Regardless, I think he almost certainly could use another year before he hits the NHL, either in Liiga or in the AHL. I really do hope he hits his potential, whether it's in Montreal, New Jersey, or elsewhere. There's not enough great power forwards in the league.
Literally the perfect assessment and exactly what I’m going for. I don’t think by many means that he’s the most skilled or statistically sound player in the draft. But I’m glad you were able to grasp the cultural impact side of what I was targeting. Although I am a big Slafkovsky supporter, I understand the risk assessment and history behind drafting players such as him. Thank you for the support :)

About that I can answer very clearly. It was a change in leadership. The head of Slovak hockey Igor Nemecek resigned due to players boycotting the national team and was replaced by business manager Martin Kohút who eventually left to make way for former NHL star's Miroslav Šatan presidency of the Slovak hockey federation. Šatan was quick to approach experts such as Craig Ramsay, Scott Moser, succesfull Slovak coaches abroad such Martin Dendis, NHL scouts like Otto Haščák, and Finnish analyst Juuka Tikkaja. The work with youth changed drastically and it's still in the process. That's the story in a nutshell.
Slafkovsky will be a perfect compliment to Jack Hughes on the wing. They will dominate and I'm drooling just thinking about how many points they will put up in their primes 😎 LFGD
Omfg man .. i did not know your comment was from 4 days ago .. .. for a second, i thought Havs got Jack Hugues in a trade .. my heart stopped beating for a second lol Jeeeezusss .. 😱😂
I am slovak and I would hold my horses in regards Slafkovsky. He has tons of work to do to become even stable member of any NHL team and not ending up in farm. We Slovaks are funny bunch, if we do well in hockey everyone is a big supporter and great patriot . However if we play bad everyone put their tail between the legs and moaning and blaming everyone hence after the bronze medal from WOG they created heroes and it happened to be Slafkovsky, before Olympic very few people knew who he was. It's funny seeing many Slovaks all over the internet saying how good Slafkovsky is 😀😀 and man you should see the slovak media, there is literally no one day that they would come up with some article about this year draft and mentioning that Slafkovsky might be first pick and so on. It's actually embarrassing and awkward... Slovakia lacks any sports success in recent years so this is for many people huge. Nevertheless I hope this boy and the others as well will do good regardless whether is picked from 1st or 100th spot in this year draft.
As a Slovak myself, what you are writing is a pure disgrace and you should be ashamed. Media coverage is neither embarassing nor awkward, it's just your dumb dont-look-you-will-break-it mentality. He is great and I'm proud that he's getting so much coverage, hell he seems to be handling it really well! I've noticed Slaf last year and it was a shame that he couldn't score a goal at 2021 WC, bcs he was great. However he seems to have doubled down on hard work! And it has paid off in 2022 so far!
I'm slovak and I strongly suggest you to hold those horses of yours and stop winging on internet. What a shame ! GO Slafkovsky and prove winging wrong!
You know what? Your comment really did age poorly, like a hot milk in the sun. It's quite sad that while many people from abroad (also experts) ended up recognizing his qualities, there are still some people in his own country who try to belittle his achievements (like anyone's achievement in general). You know, envy is not a good trait to show. In this case, the media were right and they were right for a reason. Now it's you and your comment that are actually embarrasing and awkward (to use your own words). Now you can put your tail between your legs and moan.
You make excellent videos, excellent predictions and I like that you like our young guns. If you need anything from a native Slovak, let me know, I'll be happy to help.
I am Slovak, love to see such a video about Sovak prospect…. but i am also motion designer, man! your video editing is so tense, i mean, i love it! Realy awesome editing and sound design. Klobuk dole as we say in Slovakia :)
I think we can learn something from over hyping the international players that we debate for first pick, example being laine, kakko, zadina, etc. I'd stick with the solid riskless shane wright.
And that's your choice. The same can be said about any player really. It's early on, but I'm pretty sure most would not have Lafreniere as their lock anymore regarding the 2020 draft, as for Byfield at 2 as well. The reality is anyone can succumb to the pressure. Whoever the Habs select at number 1 will be a phenomanal player :)
1:25 Ice hockey IS the dominant sport in Slovakia when it comes to TV viewership. But when it comes to registered playeres, football is by far more popular unfortunately because it's far cheaper.
Ppl knock him for his skating, he's not slow at all. For his size his foot work is not slow by any means it's actually pretty fast. He skates like he's 5'11 even tho he's 6'4. Also I keep seeing he doesn't use this size correctly well he can still learn all players can learn and improve in that area, I'm sure he will. He's only 18
He's been compared to Jagr in terms of the way he uses his size, and I like that. Those people saying he doesn't use it correctly expect him to be throwing his body around, but that's just going to end his career sooner.
You convinced me, my team should take him first, i was leaning for wright, a more safe pick but just heard from a scout that he doesn’t back check and doesn’t show up for big games, another factor is that montreals GM said during the season he wants quick dynamic players, apparently wright is not that fast, is slovosky fast? You didn’t mention that aspect
Hockey is too expensive for regulars so not many play here in Slovakia. So w e have more football players because its cheaper but when the world cup airs on tv 90% watch it so hockey is 99% the most pupular sport from my view as slovak myself. Anyway good video 👌 PS: Where do you have your data from about the popularity of hockey in Slovakia ?
Google: Most popular sport in Slovakia. Your reason is 100% the truth though, it’s not that I don’t understand, I just made a hasty decision. Thanks for watching the video though :)
2003 is the best draft of all time. You had teams literally build their rosters form that draft Ducks- Getzlaf and Perry Preds-Suter, Weber Flyers- Richards and Carter five guys, taken in the ninth round played in over four hundred games.
I am proud of all Slovak players in NHL or any other lige. There is not many of us, but they are humble, show their skills and respect. And what matters. Be true to your self and be proud what you do.
Bro, I heard that Juraj, Shane, Power, and some other players from the December WJC aren't returning to the Continuation of the WJC in August, even though they said they could return, so that's it for Slafkovsky with Team Slovakia until possibly 2026 Olympics
That was an awesome video. I wasn't sure about passing on Wright at first but the more I look into this guy the more I like him. Take my sub you legend !
I won't make excuses, I kind of based it off of registered athletes in the nation. And with that research, I found soccer > hockey by a grand margin. Perhaps more research should be done for next time, thanks for watching though :)
@@FWFarenholtz If you ask a random Slovak, he will probably say that the national sport is hockey, but if you take it by the number of registered players, you are actually right, because many people play sunday football leagues + your research is already really really good :)
@@FWFarenholtz I played soccer and hockey too... Soccer is played in Slovakia bcs Hockey is more more expensive and there arent arenas in every city... Soccer stadions are in every villages over 1000 population... So thats why... SLOVAKIA IS HOCKEY COUNTRY
Omg ! So tired of hearing this idiotic comparaison .. Look people .. you can NOT compare Wright and Slafsky simply because that is absolutely not what this draft meant. You cant compare this draft as a 1 vs 1 If Habs knew they could not get Dach or a center like that., they would of picked Wright, most certainely. But we got Dach AND Slafsky.. Knowing how easy it is to get a D like Romanov, i’d say Hugues did great. Romanov/Wright or Slafsky/Dach ? In 2 yrs + projection .. the Slafsky/Dach will produce and contribute a lot more than Wright and Romanov. That’s how people should look at this whole thing. Yes.. if you see Wright vs Slafsky only.. arguably Wright was or could be slightly better .. but again, maybe not. Now if you see what this draft is.. which is Wright/Romanov vs Slafsky/Dach.. the latter looks A LOT MORE promising. Enough already with Wright being better .. he played with players who dont even have pubic hair. Not saying he wont have a great career.. but the balls to suggest he will be SO MUCH better than Slafsky ?! Seriously .. And cherry on top, he is arrogant. Now.. that can be good as he might be so proud and will absolutely want to perform his best each night, but it can also mean he will seek attention way too much and develop god complex issues… and that can poison the team. Subban was like that for Habs and he got traded fir this reason. So, the gamble might be too risky. He’s no Bedard and he’s certainly no McDavid.. he doesnt shine and elevate above the other players like these 2 i just mentionned. Imo, Habs got 2 very promising players. We got Lecavalier and Martin St-Louis who i fulky trust to develop these young bloods. Time for a new era.. Habs will be great in 3-4 yrs and will be exciting to watch starting next season. Go Habs Go !! 😁
Interesting a hockey play would go through braces, shoot do what you want. But this as pearly whites might not survive a NHL career. Much love and luck to you Slav

And it has paid off in 2022 so far!
well he went first!
I'm slovak and I strongly suggest you to hold those horses of yours and stop winging on internet. What a shame ! GO Slafkovsky and prove winging wrong!
Moron
You know what? Your comment really did age poorly, like a hot milk in the sun.
It's quite sad that while many people from abroad (also experts) ended up recognizing his qualities, there are still some people in his own country who try to belittle his achievements (like anyone's achievement in general). You know, envy is not a good trait to show.
In this case, the media were right and they were right for a reason. Now it's you and your comment that are actually embarrasing and awkward (to use your own words). Now you can put your tail between your legs and moan.
this is one of the best videos i’ve seen! get ready… this is just the beginning 😈 🇸🇰
Oh trust me man, slovakia does like hockey i would say its Number 1 sport
Awesome video, too! Great recap of his year.
This is incredible! Great work!
Thank you kindly :)
This is a super well produced video
You make excellent videos, excellent predictions and I like that you like our young guns. If you need anything from a native Slovak, let me know, I'll be happy to help.
hes a talented player, can manage a 2on1 situation decently plus much more AND hes still really young so im excited to see more from him.
I am Slovak, love to see such a video about Sovak prospect….
but i am also motion designer, man! your video editing is so tense, i mean, i love it!
Realy awesome editing and sound design. Klobuk dole as we say in Slovakia :)
Means a ton! Thank you very much :)
I would take Laine first overall
This one helluva work put in making this video. One of the best hockey videos made, great editing, voiceover and information value. Keep it going!
Just a little mistake it wasn't our first medal but it was the first medal after a while (the last one we secured in 2004)
1:25 Ice hockey IS the dominant sport in Slovakia when it comes to TV viewership. But when it comes to registered playeres, football is by far more popular unfortunately because it's far cheaper.
W channel love your content bro seriously ur getting recommended out there so don’t worry u gon blow up
Thank you a million :)
Welcome to Jersey Slaf!!
Neither are speed demons, but I wouldn't call any of them poor skaters, it's just not their calling card. Thanks for watching :)
Slaf is much more dynamic in his style of play. Shane lacks a lot of compete and intensity in my opinion.
Hope Montreal draft him
Hopes granted
Honestly as a Slovak, it's so true
Hockey is too expensive for regulars so not many play here in Slovakia. So w e have more football players because its cheaper but when the world cup airs on tv 90% watch it so hockey is 99% the most pupular sport from my view as slovak myself. Anyway good video 👌 PS: Where do you have your data from about the popularity of hockey in Slovakia ?
Google: Most popular sport in Slovakia.
Your reason is 100% the truth though, it’s not that I don’t understand, I just made a hasty decision. Thanks for watching the video though :)
Next years draft and McDavids draft are the best drafts we’ve ever seen
2003 up there too
Habs swinging air right now
2003 is the best draft of all time. You had teams literally build their rosters form that draft
Ducks- Getzlaf and Perry
Preds-Suter, Weber
Flyers- Richards and Carter
five guys, taken in the ninth round played in over four hundred games.
nice vid
never ever say hockey is not famous in slovakia :D please.... for sure n.1 sport in country
I think he'll be the next Jonathan Toews in terms of playoff performance
Great video hope to see more like this
More is on the way ;)
Nice video you deserve more subs :)
Sidney Crosby. Coner Mc David Wayne Gretzky were massive cultural icons as teens in Canada and made impact on the US
proud of him
I am proud of all Slovak players in NHL or any other lige.
BIENVENUE A MONTREAL 🥱🥱😈
The things is not many watch Slovaks regional league but when world championship comes it becomes national sport
Nj will draft him
Nevermind
Just a correction. Hockey IS the main sport in Slovakia.
VSAUCE MUSIC ❤️❤️🤣 the nostalgia
I was waiting for someone to say something :)
Great video bro, as a habs fan, I lowkey want them to take him over Shane wright because he’s got the higher ceiling in my opinion
That was an awesome video. I wasn't sure about passing on Wright at first but the more I look into this guy the more I like him. Take my sub you legend !
Well.... here we go!
W editing
Nice drill beat for the intro
Nice video!!!!
Montreal !!!!!!!
2003 was the best draft ever
H'es a habs now !
unreal video.
Next year is gonna be a league changing draft fs
I don’t understand. Slafkovsky is not P Forsberg or Lindros. He does not completely dominate physically. He is a big forward with excellent skill.
Great video but I have to correct you - hockey is the national sport here in Slovakia
@@adamrehak9486 Cheers my friend :)
Awesome video, Just wondering what audio you used at 6:20

Instrumental track from LCS Sounds, thank you for watching :)
@@FWFarenholtz Thanks ill prob make an edit on Slafkovsky
@@FWFarenholtz Also What editor do you use?
Premiere Pro
1:27 that is indeed incorrect ice hockey is the most popular sport in slovakia as of slovakia is the 8th best country in ice hockey
very beatiful video
TPS mentioned!
Omg ! So tired of hearing this idiotic comparaison ..
Look people .. you can NOT compare Wright and Slafsky simply because that is absolutely not what this draft meant.
You cant compare this draft as a 1 vs 1
If Habs knew they could not get Dach or a center like that., they would of picked Wright, most certainely.
Much love and luck to you Slav
he actually is legal adult...
That guy has 3 more years of filling out. Just imagine
6'4 229lbs now... I don't think there will be much more growing, but easily has the potential to be one of the biggest in the league.
Imagine Slavkosky Dach Anderson on a line lol
That is a sexy line not gonna lie.
Slovakia legit won a world championship, raised one of the best NHL stars, how can you say the sport its not dominant in there? Sorry, but thats not true...
Juraja by v Montrealu zabili ,nemaji na to tedka ani tym ,radsi at jde do Jersey
Tak tak v devils maju paradny young core a menej toxicku fanbase
