I know exactly why the jump works the way it does. Pressing the spacebar is applying a set amount of physics force on the Y axis. He has a script checking whether you're touching the ground or not, and then flipping a variable if you aren't to disable jumping. The bottom of the collider probably clips into the ground, or the script is a little slow, so pressing really fast is letting you get multiple physics impulses applied at once. Source: Have made Unity games.
I haven’t used unity, but as a programmer that sounds plausible! I wonder why they didn’t make the act of hitting the jump key flip that variable though? I mean they already have to have something to reenable jumping when you land. Seems like more of a hassle to do it this way
@@thatfly5360 Considering the entire map is flat, they could simply check the vertical position of the player, and enable jumping only if the value is under a certain threshold. Seems to me a similar oversight to how bunnyhopping was made. Increase the movement speed on a jump (above the normal running speed cap), and reduce it back once landed. That way the player can do nice long jumps. But what happens if the player jumps again before the speed cap can trigger? Well, another speed increase ontop of the already faster speed. Some games are smart and set a global value for the speed cap, like Mario 64. But what happens if you only cap the maximum value and not the minimum value? You'll get backwards long jumps with enough negative speed that the player can go through quarter frame load zones.
