Thank god this wasn't just another Tracklib promo
Hahah almost fooled you
"and if you want to sample great, check out our sponsor, tracklib. it has been used by j cole, *insert 20 more rappers* for the cheap price of 20 bucks!!"
kkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
Tracklib dont even need promos. They can promote themselves good
That's funny but I checked my tracking acct and I have about 744 credits from promoting them in one video from 2 years ago.
Love that this channel isn't just tutorials for a DAW, but actually teaches what I would consider out of the box thinking and methods for beats. I started venturing into using samples thanks to this channel.
Swizz definitely McGurked me with that last one.
McGurked once again 😢
Brendan, get back to soccer practice.
not me :D
😅😅😅😅 McGurked eh? Holy jew
That Kanye cutaway had me dying 😂😂😂😂! I forgot he said that ish😂😂😂
That did amuse me too

Will there be a video about Schoolboy Q's Blue Lips?
I am not sure if there's enough people interested
I think the production is amazing and that you can show us some interesting techniques used. Yeern 101 for example has a really unique drumpattern/bounce.
@@NavieDI’m interested
There are enough! And If you make Vid people will get interested for sure :)
im interested (:
Man I'm always amazed by how you not just get the drums so clean and punchy and snappy as the original producers in your renditions but also the live feel when it comes to Just Blaze in your renditions. Because he usually does it live with pads and keys and actual drums. And also I would love to see how you sample and chop stuff up in serato to do these renditions. Because it seems easier than what I do.
I flipped superstar by Luther Vandross, near the end of the song when he pours his heart out. The live rendition has thinner drums (much easier to filter out and layer over) and more of a room presence with the occasional cheer from the crowd which added a lovely texture to my beat. The quality is a little bit diminished compared to the album version but that's a tiny price to pay for that extra seasoning😉
Sampling in Serato is a big satisfaction
Yep, one of the few plugins well worth it's money
@@NavieDcan you do a video on that
@@mojojojo6400I think he already has
@@mojojojo6400he already has
I love this channel , man your content is always helpful
bro your content is so original, i never wouldve picked up on that.🙌🙌
that flute version of Genesis was Fire!!!
Awesome thanks! I can't wait to try this 🎉❤
A great example of this is The Joy using a Curtis Mayfield live sample
Thanks once again. Your beat breakdowns are revolutionary.
Love that Prodigy song. You should have touched on the Long Red drums. Always, great content.
Thx Navie! I like this idea of taking live renditions instead of album versions. They can sound dope!
Great video as always!
This is an idea that I've been thinking about implementing in my beats. I was really curious when you listed vinyl and the internet before you revealed the tip. You can sample live renditions from either one of those sources but its definitely an interesting concept and it makes for a unique sound in your beats.
That Kanye quote is definetely one of the 🐐's
It made me laugh
We need a just blaze producer breakdown. Great video as always tho
Yessss. My favorite producer of all time
Navie I love when you spread your sauce with us
Thank you Navie D🙏❤️
Really good idea, thank you.
Excellent tutorial. ✅
there's noway you posted this recently, I literally did that 3 days ago and I can say it made the beat 100x better with the live version
Up mi gee given thanks mi general
This is the greatest channel on UA-cam
I agree
Agreed
Dude puts the work in 💯
Hardly 😭😭🤣 but he does drop jewels every now and then
Thanks, Navie. I'll definitely be comparing the 2 renditions when looking for samples now lol Cheers!
I hope it results in good beatssss
Damn dude, thank you, you dropped a gem with this video today.
Navie D loves ❤️ his Kangol Merch! 2:34
I'd love a breakdown of "ETA" by Dr. Dre and a comparison between it and "itkanbe[sonice]" by Knxwledge, both featuring Anderson .Paak
I would like that too
My favorite live sample is Quakers Fitter Happier. It’s not only a live sample but a sample of a marching band playing a Radiohead song and sampled off of UA-cam.
An amazing one is Ab Souls - Do Better, That samples the live recording of Green Twins by Nick Hakim. The live version is just his vocal and an electric guitar with light reverb, chorus and delay pedal I think. When the album version has multiple synths and textures that are very busy
That was a pretty damn good remake of the Hovi Baby beat 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
bro live versions are can be found both on vinyl and internet.
😂
LMFAO
reeally cool video thanks maan
Interesting content as usual.
I honestly love the On to the next one album version dont you feel like finishing it. 😂😂😂😂😂
The Hovi Baby beat breakdown was 👌🏾
damn you put way more energy in this video , congratulations
May please make longer videos? Please!
Cool! About layering a kick on top of a snare drum many producers have already done it.
I know. It's just a very unusual idea, and I don't see the Mobb Deep affiliated producers (i.e. Havoc or Alchemist) doing things like this.
@@NavieD Indeed. I like the way you over explain contents.
I HATE kicks+drums its just awkward flow wise. Leave that to dance music lol
I've done it a lot since 1999 when I first started. I have always always layered my drums ever since.
Top tier tips only as always!
Kai! Can't wait to hear your submission for this week's assignment
@@NavieD I'm pretty happy with it! hope the wheel picks me this week
bruh you're too funny!!! 🤣🤣🤣 that kanye part busted my ribs
thank you foir this!
Maybe do a vid on samples of other artists covering other artists live? Like how “hands on the wheel” samples the Lissie cover of Kid Cudis “pursuit of happiness” …it’s the same vibe as this vid but there’s a whole other layer with how the artist does their rendition
you the goat Navie
Great video, never knew that was a Live TLC sample
Navie can u do more album technique breakdowns? Like for Utopia or other unique production styles
This was a good one! Loved that Kanye Lady Gaga clip and as a Neuroscientist I always appreciate the McGurk effect in action!
That Kanye part caught me off guard.. hilarious bro.. 😂🤣😂💀
Great video as always! 💯
✌😎

Imma have to spend some time with my Genesis records. I always wanted to sample stuff from Lamb Lies Down on Broadway.
I always loved that genesis beat.
One of my favorite examples of live song samples is the one Kanye used in the leaked track “530”… I really hope he releases that song one day, it could be one of his best
This video makes me realize why older songs will constantly get sampled. Simple instrumentals are easier to sample than overly produced ones. Vocals are simple and yet soulful
Thanks for all the recent content. Quality and quantity:)
noiiiice. never thought of that.
Bless up Navie D
Big up Kinggg
I sampled part of a live jazz set and bad a few different beats from the samples there waa something about the sound i liked i could not put my finger on why it sounded so good
Hey NavieD! Will there be a video about Metro and Future's newest album? There is some cool beats in there
Very informative per usual, have you ever thought of doing a video covering some of Flying Lotus' techniques?
5:24 just wanted to ask, are the kick and snare accidentally swapped in this? Or is the kick just really high frequency lol
5:30 why did you mislabel the kick and snare? Mistake or reason to create interaction?
Just Blaze is insane. What We Do one of the greatest beats
I never thought about this, good tip
Wow. so when musicians play a song with different instruments in a different way than on a different album it sounds so different that that different version is sample worthy while the first recording is not. Call me old fashioned but my mind is blown.
I was thinking one of the reasons would be avoiding copyright/clearance issues, no?
You should listen to The John Candy. They have the best samples
I just so happened to have sampled a four tops live record recently. My wife actually dug for the record and brought it to me. I make a habit of trying to find something on anything she brings. It's my version of Rhythm Roulette.
I sample live versions all the time...i flipped a marvin gaye sample back in 2005...the same sample kanye used for spaceship but i used the live version but chopped it to standard instead of 1/8th and a 3rd like kanyes. When the crowd ambience occasionally comes in its dope...food for thought...kanye only did the loops he hired a drummer to live play over it because he said hes not a drummer. He then just replaced some of the drum sounds with his own he felt mixed. Im guessing the drummer hired used an electric drum set.and maybe the reason the drums on the track are a little high pitched to match the notes of the sample. With that said college drop out is a big reason i bought a mpc2000xl back in 2004. As far as the topic live versions of songs(especially modern like the lady gaga example) are easier is because they use less instruments usually soloing in piano or guitar and not amplified bass, synth and drums including vocals like like the album versions
damn... they mcgurk'd me again.
thank you for opening my eyes Navie
salute navie
Song by You're da Man - NAS and Produced by Large Professor . The sample is saying sugar man and sounds like your da man ! So the title is youre da man
The first one is also a Schoolboy Q sample! Gangsta in Designer
Prodigy did in fact make that Genesis beat, i cant remember what interview but i know he has talked about it
So, Im trying to do chord progressions and when I try to play the piano I get drum beats. Is there a way to switch it back to piano?
I love doing this. Interstitial music in movies is great too.
This technique gave me a unique style in my local area in the 90's...

ooooh cool
I actually sampled the choir from the beginning of Kanye’s Free Larry Hoover concert and it became one of the best beats I ever made lol
Can you do a video on the sample production on suit and ties by Justin Timberlake ? It’s mostly sampled.
Does this samples require clearing or they counted as cover versions?
Funny I have been laying snares with kicks from the 90’s other pples probably been doing this but this & what they call lazy beats now that they credit Roc Marciano for making popular is something we have been doing in LI since 89🤔 that was signatures back then for us. because we were trying to sound different to the bomb squad.
3:27 that scene was very neccessary😂 wouldve been mad if this wasnt somehow included
5 bar and 7 bar loops are the truth, dilla did that too, its so weird and hypnotizing i do 5 or 7 whenever i can get away with it
He really knows his stuff! 8:03
My favourite use of live samples is Track 12 from Dilla's 'Another Batch'! Daryl Hall and Oates
Oooh I love this beat. The stuttering kicks are so weird
@@NavieD I know!! I also love the weird percussion that creates this really strong and prominent groove, like a wonky stool lol
When will you be reviewing your subscribers beats again?
Would love some technical advice to take my beats to the next level.
5:24 the kick is named snare and the snare is named kick, almost had a stroke there
ALC is a scientist a Egor dude dissect samples and builds some of the greatest sounds in Hip Hop.
Yessss! I did this once long ago and the beat came out crazy! It was a live performance of a 70s band that will remain unnamed. 😂
tsk tsk tsk gatekeeping samples 😂😂
@@DollaSignD u damn right! 😭
good morning, navie!
Good murrrrning
You need to sample shoulders
Well MPC stems is here
I think the snare and kick labels are mixed up, right? 😅 @5:24
I never knew Kangol made shirts bro wtf. Also AraabMusic just sampled that beat too recently it’s called “ Certain Things - TheRealOt. I honestly suggest it bro. This was made on MPC and not Daw🎉
In kenyes defense polaroid doesnt know shit about cameras either anymore.
i almost fell asleep until i heard that hovi baby keyboard
Kanye left me flabbergasted with him sampling lady gaga
you McGurking me? 💪😂👍 jk keep up the great vids Nav!
Am I the only one who things the weird version of Make Her Say kind of sounds nice? Obviously it would need to have it's volume rebalanced and some EQ to put more vocals on it, but it's kind of nice to me.
