  • @ThaLazyDesigner
    @ThaLazyDesigner 8 місяців тому +139

    2:32, no wonder the songs turned out great. Its R.D. Burman’s music. The man was a legendary music composer of the golden era bollywood. He is the reason why old Bollywood songs are considered as some of the best indian songs of all time.

    • @avasta.
      @avasta. 6 місяців тому +4

      90% of old Bollywood hits are straight-up rip-offs from other countries' music 🤦‍♂

    • @ThaLazyDesigner
      @ThaLazyDesigner 6 місяців тому +17

      @@avasta. That has to be one of the most broad and factually incorrect statement.
      You haven’t really specified as to which era you are talking about when you say “old” bollywood. Is it 2000s, 90s, 80s, 70s ?
      As for the golden age Bollywood music, the songs were composed by artists like Nushad, Shankar-jaikishan, O.P. Nayyar, Mohammed Rafi, S.D. Burman and R.D. Burman. I dont know much about Rafi, O.P. Nayyar or shankar. But R.D. Burman has “copied” only 24 songs out of 1,750 songs that he has composed in his life. S.D. Burman made 700+ songs in his life and only 7 were copied. Naushad composed 636 songs and only 3 were stolen.
      So the statement of “90%” being stolen really falls flat here. Try like 2% to 4% of old Bollywood songs are stolen from other countries music and only 0.5%-1% of those stolen songs were able to be popular or leave a mark.
      “Mehbooba” is one such example, where it was “copied” and not “stolen” from Demis Roussos.
      And speaking of “copying”, the song “lambada” was copied by 16 different artists from various countries including india. The song was “copied” and used in Bollywood movie “ghayal” in 1990. Later the lambada song was “copied” by jennifer lopez for her hit song “on the floor”.
      So it’s not the case of only Bollywood copying stuff and other countries and artists are holier than thou.
      What you were referring to is the 90s and 2000s Bollywood music, which did had alot of western influence and alot of tunes were borrowed, stolen, copied and in some cases, rightfully adapted by Bollywood music makers. Prominent example being Rajesh Roshan stealing vangelis music to create songs for “koi mil gaya”, “kaho na pyaar hai” and more.
      However, 80s, 90s and 2000’s do not come under the “golden age of Bollywood”. The golden age of bollywood started in 1940s and ended in 1960s. So the statement “90% of old Bollywood music being stolen from other countries” doesn’t make any sense.
      Even in 80s, 90s and 2000s, Bollywood did NOT stole “90%” music from other countries. Maybe around 50-60%. Apart from that, a lot of it was original or taken from other parts of india. Mainly from south indian movies and Bengali movies.

    • @avasta.
      @avasta. 6 місяців тому +1

      @@ThaLazyDesigner Please watch the list of copied Bollywood songs by Muzix. It's very long and might be shocking even for you. This is my third time leaving a comment here. UA-cam keeps deleting my comments for some reason.

    • @shravan7623
      @shravan7623 6 місяців тому +9

      @@avasta. I've watched the relevant content you are referring to. It's still only a handful of examples. The vast majority of popular Hindi songs are still original compositions. More over that UA-cam channel keeps repeating the same song twice down the list. And some of the connections between the original and copied are frankly barely recognisable if at all.

    • @avasta.
      @avasta. 6 місяців тому

      @@shravan7623 What!! That wasn't a "handful" at all. That was literally a massive list, and a lot of the songs there are very famous and quite a few are considered "iconic". Not quite sure why we have to deceive ourselves. No shame in admitting that these talentless hacks copied those songs. What does it have to do with us? We have plenty of talented composers like Rahman for example. But defending straight-up plagiarism is not good.

    But if everybody is sampling from youtube, isnt the quality going down in general? I know it´s better to have the orginal sample quality and all but it´s not always to find or buy. Than youtube is a good option, but I only use youtube for vocals that I can´t find or buy. Great vid btw, always cool to see what artsist´s used for sampling. Producers of N.E.R.D did it even more simple, they just use complete presets to make some of the most iconic beats of the Neptunes, N.E.R.D etc

      thats called songwriting and producing. you might not be playing instruments, but you are producing the sounds and writing a song in arranging the sounds.
