The Who invented a new way of playing rock & roll. Both Moon & Entwistle broke the rules when it came to playing their instruments. They both played incredibly busy (Moon's playing was one long continuous drum fill & Entwistle played bass like he was playing lead guitar). On paper, it shouldn't have worked (and in any other band it wouldn't have) but somehow it did. Add to that Pete's power chords & you've got the often imitated, never duplicated, one and only sound of The Who...
They break the rules when playing their instruments. They break the rules when they break their instruments and they rule their instruments when they play without brakes.
One of the most original bands of all time. They covered some songs extremely well (Roadrunner, Shakin' All Over, Summertime Blues, Eyesight to the Blind) but they have never been accused of stealing music. In a league all their own. Phenomenal.
God tat fill when roadrunner ends and my generation blues comes in is my most awesome keith moon fill ever? How did he play that cause I've tried that 40 years and I can't get that controlled falling down the stairs harmonic brilliance!!
What would be even more awesome is if this video had play straight into the next song...wont get fooled again of course! this is a nice clean upload of this song.
It does, in bootleg form. The video is pretty common on the bootleg circuit and well worth looking for. Right after the blues version of "My Generation", they go right into "Won't Get Fooled Again"
The Zombies, like many others, covered it. The song was written and the original versions were recorded by Elias McDaniel - better known as Bo Diddley.
We see the DETOURS , ( THE WHO , before they changed it to THE WHO ) playing ROADRUNNER in 1964 , at a local pub ,the white hart , acton , london ,AND WAS BLOWN AWAY BY IT / THEM and have played it in every group since then ! DEREK SHULMAN ( bon jovi /bad company / gentle giant ) named his record company after this song and seeing the detours / the who , years earlier , please checkout SUMMERTIME BLUES and SHAKING ALL OVER by the WHO ,its magic , from the early days before they made it famous
This is it,,this the point where the WHO peaked,,its here right now this is it..this is the ultimate hi lite..this is the WHO at the highest peak point!!!
there used to be a video of join together, that was before this roadrunner on youtube, and My Generation Blues leads into an EPIC wont get fooled again, also used to be on youtube...
Right before this video kicks in, the band is playing an awesome, epic version of "Join Together." It is on the album but not in the movie. Has anyone ever seen that piece of film? Does it even exist?
Thank you for the lecture. You're right, that was a pathetic oversight on my part. I am ashamed to consider myself a rock and roll fan and will from this day forward never call myself that again. Let me rephrase what I said. That move Pete does with his leg toward the beginning... ("Duck Walk" Trademark Bo Diddley) I'm gonna practice that every day for the rest of my life. Probably never get it. Tell me, professor, is the final exam open-internet? I simply don't think I could pass otherwise!
this is why the WHO is the greatest band of all time. you want 3 minute top 40 hits, Pete will write them for you. you want love songs, Roger will sing them for you, you want your mind blown with heavy metal, here you go. THEY DID IT ALL!! Led Zeppelin is the only band that comes close. Watch interviews with Eddie Vedder, Dave Grohl, Bono, Sting, David Bowie, Billy Idol, the Edge . . . the WHO set the bar.
@999manman having said that..i don't mean to be critical of him. He is my main influence on guitar....his playing on live at leeds is great. It seems as if he really tried to play well there....i read that he wanted to do a lot of single note playing to show hendrix what he could do..
"("Duck Walk" Trademark Bo Diddley)" . Yeah, you need to be a professor of Rock N' Roll to be familiar with Chuck Berry and his Duck Walk. It's the first image that should pop into your head when somebody says Rock N' Roll. I wasn't aware that Bo Diddley held the rights and the trademark for Chuck's Duck Walk.
That move that Pete does with his leg, huh? Two thumbs up for your comment? It's Pete's version of Chuck Berry's "Duck Walk". Road Runner is a song by some guy who went by the name of Bo Diddley. The intro to Mr. Brownstone might have everything to do with him. You're really into the rock n' roll aren't you? Twenty-three fucking years old and you don't have a clue! Don't you ever think of yourself as rock n' roll or a rock n' roll fan.
@999manman pete is and was very inconsistent w/his lead playing..he sort tried to play by the seat of his pants...sometimes it worked other times it was horrendous...i never understood y he never worked on his lead playing..he's been friends w/jimmy page, eric clapton, joe walsh and dave gilmour. They could have taught him a thing or two...lol
Pete, though not a proficient lead guitarist, is one of the best rhythm guitar players in history. Nobody has ever been able o windmill like Pete and actually hit the guitar strings. Try it sometime. Your inclination will be to not hit the strings for fear of slicing off your fingers....
The Who took it to the next cycle ... and the next cycle is coming ... when things get bad enough ... and people get pissed off enough that pop pablum won't do any more.
Killer shredding from Pete Townshend!!!
For the hardest rocking band of all time, I have to go with these guys. This is the Who at their best.
The Mc5 were the hardest
@jackcrane7853
No way The Who were way louder

So who were innovators for rock and roll in so many ways?
@@johntarnowski9086 Yes
LONG LIVE THE WHO !!!!!!! Greatest rock band of all time.
Amen !!
One of the most original bands of all time. They covered some songs extremely well (Roadrunner, Shakin' All Over, Summertime Blues, Eyesight to the Blind) but they have never been accused of stealing music. In a league all their own. Phenomenal.
the solo at the end makes the hairs on my neck stand up everytime!!
This just rocks! For best results play at maximum volume.
Oh yeah....................................Rockin
Brian Willing Maximum volume is the only way to listen to Maximum R&B
Rob DeMark Right on brother!
The part where Roger sings, "WHY DON'T YA ALL" just gets me so worked up every time, it's the epitome of rock and roll.
I would have gladly risked losing my hearing at this concert. The Who are one of my favorite bands.
Pete Townsend is on fire! Number 2 guitar didn't get smashed, did what it was designed to do, awesome! 😇
What an amazing version of My Generation
Love the way Keith and Pete are in the zone at 4:14. This gig (Pontiac Silverdome, '75) was one of their loudest and most energetic.
Nothing like Bo Diddly n the Who get me fired up n get my day started! Got that spirit, is lacking today .
The Who can turn a crappy little pop song into a masterpiece, unbelievable.
I just acquired the vinyl soundtrack of the movie. This is one of the best tracks, fucking great!
They are gods.
WE ARE THE MODS!
God tat fill when roadrunner ends and my generation blues comes in is my most awesome keith moon fill ever? How did he play that cause I've tried that 40 years and I can't get that controlled falling down the stairs harmonic brilliance!!
thanks for posting..a who fan for 26 years....I remember going to the movie in 1978 when it was released..great memories
Amazing how Pete is a conductor with the whole of his body whilst playing some of the best damn guitar...
absolutely love that segue into "My Generation".
What would be even more awesome is if this video had play straight into the next song...wont get fooled again of course! this is a nice clean upload of this song.
I SAW THE WHO IN THE 70'S...WEHN THEY WERE ON YOU JUST HELD ON FOR THE RIDE...THEY WERE ROCKS OUTER LIMITS!
Love the walk (tribute to Chuck Berry) by Pete in the beginning.
Reminded me of John Cleeses's "Ministry of Silly Walks" skit on Monty Python. Must be a British Thing by way of Chuck B.
The sound quality and the feedback, no matter what volume you listen to this, you just know it was LOUD!
man, you know at 4:26, that #2 les paul is howling as it is having those notes wrung from it! FANTASTIC!
One word - Awesome!
Love this version of My Generation. Roger’s voice so incredibly powerful 😍
It does, in bootleg form. The video is pretty common on the bootleg circuit and well worth looking for. Right after the blues version of "My Generation", they go right into "Won't Get Fooled Again"
it is my generation so it explains why we are different to the norm
So effortlessly swaggering and rocking. I mean Led Zeppelin was amazing at the time too- but were they ever this fun???
Yes, awesome. He had the most incredible drum kit on this tour
Keith was in such good form on this leg of the tour. Probably, for consistency and excellence, his best period.
esta é a melhor my generation que eu ja ouvi... e olha que eu ja ouvi dezenas...
Epic segue @ 02:10 from Roadrunner to My Generation.
Wonderful band..
The Who at the almighty Pontiac Silverdome!!!Pure gold...R.I.P Silverdome
Who, wouldn't have Kieth Moon in their band? He's kickin it as usual...
sheer beautiful brilliant madness
I love to watch Pete hop around!
I wish they would've put the whole medley with join together in the movie
Badass band! Rock n Roll!
Love this.
1976. This is the last time The Who were truly great.
The Zombies, like many others, covered it. The song was written and the original versions were recorded by Elias McDaniel - better known as Bo Diddley.

Awesome LP Deluxe, I have a vintage 1970 LP deluxe.
it's not often that a cover rocks more than the original but this one does!
so would i! i love the who and they will always be my favorite band
congrats with your birthday and many happy returns.
cool i love the song road runner. thanks. 5. God bless.
My favorite version of My Generation.
Power Rock
PURE COSMIC ATOMIC AWESOMENESS
@rammsteinbopper08 Yes! Defintiely! Anyone who thinks Pete can't play lead should take a listen...it still gives me goosebumps!!!!

This is it,,this the point where the WHO peaked,,its here right now this is it..this is the ultimate hi lite..this is the WHO at the highest peak point!!!
Imagine going to a concert and having your face blown off. These guys did that every night to ppl.

When the 70`s were over apparently so was the Les Paul for Pete. I`ve never seen him play one since....
This my fave shit, top this, I dare you, double dog dare you?
Pontiac Silverdome.
Awesome gig
there used to be a video of join together, that was before this roadrunner on youtube, and My Generation Blues leads into an EPIC wont get fooled again, also used to be on youtube...
omg it does!
Hey look it's my husband, Roger Daltrey.
Right before this video kicks in, the band is playing an awesome, epic version of "Join Together." It is on the album but not in the movie. Has anyone ever seen that piece of film? Does it even exist?
That move Pete does with his leg toward the beginning... I'm gonna practice that every day for the rest of my life. Probably never get it.
greatest duck walk ever recorded
this is fucking EPIC
The WHO at there 🏆 prime

Tell me, professor, is the final exam open-internet? I simply don't think I could pass otherwise!
is the year 1975?
Yup Pontiac Silverdome
U can clearly see how Pete and Keith fed off thier energies.was like that from the beginning
75000 dope-smoking teens were at this concert! or at least so i've heard!
they jammed just as hard as any band at that time.......
rock and fucking roll!!!!!!
@alsaxe1 Good point!
The Young Vic version is great but this one has something especial. And the duck walk owns it.
4.21 till the end is pure Townshend magic......
@jjaaccoo Thank you! I knew we were!

pete can do awesome duckwalk!
@EarlShoes1 So Beetoven is overrated? Because Pete's songwriting skills are on par with his.
Yes, Pontiac Silverdome in 1975

quem será que veio ver o The e num gostou... mas viu... então é fan....kakaka
Pete's like turned on a slow-mo button on his spazzout... xD
Pete's doing the Chuck Berry "duck walk" there. Probably does it better than Chuck himself.
@whyyeseyec pete actually plays a lot of lead guitar here, listen to the solos, sounds just like jimmy page...
Road Runner sounds Hard Rock and swagger like Aerosmith cover "Honkin' on Bobo"
It's a Rockin' Cover from Blues Guitarist Bo Diddley!
"("Duck Walk" Trademark Bo Diddley)" . Yeah, you need to be a professor of Rock N' Roll to be familiar with Chuck Berry and his Duck Walk. Fucking massive!!!
