Wow, wasn't expecting that! Thank you for posting this. I worked as a Commercial Guard at Basingstoke for 20 years and another five on the station itself starting just after SWT came to be. I spent a large chunk of my teenage years watching the trains there. When you get to a certain age, there's a philosophical feeling about the whole thing. Nearly everything in your video of Basingstoke has changed....which is sad....but it holds such happy memories that you can't help but smile when you see it. The Bog unit coming into No.5 bay. The flashing of the shoes on icy conductor rails, long lines of slam door CIGs and VEPs. Wonderful! Happy Days. Started my day off really well this morning. Thank you again
10/10 for braving the elements! Great footage and some great memories. Plus, BR ran a service and would always do their best to get you there. Nowadays, easier for privatised companies to cancel trains and risk nothing as government will compensate them anyway.....
Great bit of railway nostalgia as well. Wish we could turn the clock back.
Couldn't agree more
Yeah but no mobile phones, no GPS, no internet, ...
The snow and the chill sharpen the senses. We all remember our trips on BR with trains in the snow. Good days.
Great collection. Thanks.
Thanks for watching!

Thanks for watching.
The first clip was taken from the old signal box at Coundon Rd on the Nuneaton to Coventry line.
Wonderful footage, something about trains in the snow that just seems perfect.
Yes, thanks

2:07 The most pathetic horn ever. Somebody give those tractors a hug, please.
Was Nigel in the box at Greaves? Great Vid!
He was the guy filming it
@@foretrak I thought he might have been...
Had the 225 had a failed class 91 so the 86 was dragging the DVT + carriages ?
That. I couldn't tell you. It was my colleague that took the footage some years ago
It looks like a mark 3 dvt and Mark 3 coaches tbh so maybe some WCML working
@@jonathanrees3830 It was "Near Rugby", so definitely some WCML working! Also, it's a class 87 -- 87s have two front windows; 86s have three.
